Skal a 2-year player

The yr is young yet, to early to say that, the guy has the talent he just needs to get tough..

It's the beginning of December. He has a whole season to improve. How can we judge based on his play in the first few games of the season.

If that is how it works, why aren't Booker, Lyles, and Towns still on the roster?

If he's gone as of today as most say then what does that say about the effort to expect from the guy? If it's a foregone conclusion then it will be tough to motivate him. I don't believe this. His game will have to change drastically from today to be in line for big money
He's not coming back. It doesn't matter where he goes in the draft. If he's a first rounder he's leaving.

Anybody remember what Prince looked like his freshman year? Birdlike...and I don't mean Larry.

I thought the same thing. Prince stayed long enough to develop and become a really good player. If Skal leaves (and it appears there's a good chance he will) I think he will 'eventually' become a good NBA player. He's just too weak and timid in general right now. I still like this team a lot and I have faith that Cal can get a ton of improvement out of him. But right now he's hurting us. And by the way I think he shoots the ball as well as anyone, they're just shots around the basket and a few that leak out to the foul line but his shot is great. No one can deny that. Hope he progresses as the season moves on. GBB.

All these Skal threads need to be merged into one composite collection of amnesic paranoia.

Marcus Lee's not the only one who's suffered head trauma.

I like the Prince analogy. My biggest fear for Skal is that his guardians, handlers, Svengali or what ever they are called will look for the quick payday. I think he needs to listen to his coaches and screw those other folks. Cal will guide him right and Prince is a big example of "what could be" for Skal.

He has very good touch. Can score at all 3 levels. Has shown he can make a hook with either hand, mid range jumper, and i assume with his stroke can hit a 3(althogh he'll never shoot one). He has an advanced skill set for his age. Just not physically mature, takes plays off. Give him time, he will prove many wrong. I think early on both Skal and Murray are struggling at times to find their role. Once they do they'll look like the players we thought they were

Besides Poythress who is a SR, the only kid on our roster who should go into the draft is Murray. He's the only one with the game to make a roster next year. That's not an insult to any of those kids, it's just the truth. Now, we might have 6 leave, but the truth is, Skal needs this season, and off season to put on 25 pounds, and another season before he would be strong enough to be anything but D League, Briscoe is a stud, but he needs a year to learn how to shoot free throws, I mean, come on, how many guards shoot 50% on FT's? Lee is not dominating and needs another year to work on his game, and Willis should redshirt?transfer. I think Willis could be a stud with PT, but he won't get any next season. Ulis? Love him, but a couple of years to work on his stroke would help his chances of making a club

There's nothing wrong with being in the D-League if you get a big enough contract.

People need to get the idea out of their heads that playing in the D League for a while is some kind of death sentence.

It is and sometimes it's not. Sometimes it is a place to put you when the team feels they made a mistake, others it really is a place to get playing time to Develop skills.

Not to pile on the kid, but I think a lot of you are underestimating just how bad of a player Skal is right now. He's not even close to being a good college player, let alone a guy who could provide anything close to serviceable minutes in the NBA. Does that mean he wouldn't get drafted? Of course not, but still, it's pretty eye-opening how far away from being good even on this level he is.

Bad? Jared Carter, Shargari and Woo were bad. Check back here in March and give us your assessment then. The big difference is that Skal is very gifted offensively. Cal will get him there. Write that down.

Guys. Come on. You know how this works. And in Skal's case he had to sit out his entire SR year. He will get better and better as the year goes along and by the end of the year he'll be what everyone is expecting him to be now. Now with all that said. We do need to have him facing up. That fits him best right now. At this point and time he aint a back to the basket big. If we face him up then you're looking at a totally different player right now IMO

But just for fun. Skal as a Soph??? Holy hell imagine this.......

Tyler Ulis
De'Aaron Fox
Malik Monk
Bam Adebayo
Skal Labissiere

Wenyen Gabriel
SKJ
Charles Mathews
Derrick Willis
Issaac Humphries
Tai Wynyard

People make these same humorous threads every year around this time. The players all improve for the most part and leave. Skal back next year would be nice, but probably about a 1 in a million chance it happens.

If you think skal needs another year then go back one year and see what the #1 player picked in the nba draft stats were his first 7 games.

Skal
22.3 mpg, 12 PPG on 61%, 3.9 RPG, .4 APG, 2.1 BPG, .4 SPG, 3.4 PFPG, 1.6 TOpg

Towns
18.5 mpg, 8.25 PPG on 50%, 6.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, 2.6 BPG, .4 SPG, 2.6 PFPG, 1.3 TOpg,

HIcatsfan's profile pic is exactly what I'm worried about with Skal. We can compare all the stats between KAT and Skal endlessly, but most concerning is that no matter how he was playing, it always looked like KAT was having fun out there. Skal doesn't look like he's enjoying himself.

I hope he gets a double double next game to loosen up a little.

He's got a good stroke on his jumper, that's it. Zero inside game what so ever at this point, no rebounding skills, no fight, no toughness! Can it all change? Of course....but lets not act like hes been a game breaker up to this point! Our inside game as a whole is beyond weak, Poy, Lee all of em are weak!

And this isn't a good shooting team. Brace yourself for 6-7 losses. Glad all that 40-0 talk is done from that thread couple weeks ago.

His motivation is to get drafted #1. He's gone as of today because he screams potential. He'll have a hard time playing himself out of the top 10.

Not even close to being a top 10 pick right now. Sad thing is he will go. Will be in the NBDL for the first couple of years and we may never hear his name again.
