The thread on the consecutive games with a made three point attempt reminded me to check the most recent AP Poll appearances totals.
Prior to Cal, UK was fourth all-time in the number of times they were ranked #1, dating back to 1949 (88 appearances). We were 17 behind UNC, 23 behind Duke, and 46 behind UCLA.
Now we are up to third, leaping UNC by 10 appearances. We are also only 7 appearances behind Duke and 14 appearances behind UCLA.
It would be nice to get back to the top of this list. We already have the most appearances in the top 10 and the most appearances in the top 5.
I find the top 10 appearances to be pretty impressive. Since 1949, UK has been ranked in the top 10 in ~60% of all of the polls that have been released. That level of sustained performance is remarkable.
