SIAP: NCAA Changes Official Exhibition Rules

So, basically just the same thing as regular season games except they don’t count in the standings?

Then why even have exhibitions? Just start the damn season.
I think there is worth in a couple of exhibition games against teams that are more near your level. Gives you a couple games to work with lineups, etc against decent competition. Other college sports have exhibition games against DI opponents. Men's soccer, for example, played Memphis and NKU this year in exhibition games. Baseball played Wright State and Morehead State in exhibitions. Volleyball played Dayton. Etc.

How can this be leveraged with international exhibition games? Do we still have to wait 4 years or whatever? Because I would take advantage of UKs basketball funds and do exhibitions every year somewhere nice (tropics, beach areas, new cities).. players will like the travel and so will the fans.

No. You can do them for charity if you want, you just don’t have to. You know the sucky Blue-White NIL thing? Imagine doing a UK-UConn game where proceeds go to NIL. Now THAT would be worth paying to get in to see. Or pay per view. What it does is allow you to play a team more on your level and not worry about taking an L that might hurt your resume early. You can make adjustments better. Let’s be real you don’t learn much playing a Transy or Georgetown. Sure, make that be one of your other Exhib games for those local schools but you’re not going to get a lot out of it.

Agreed, but this will make for some great matchups without the fear of an early season loss.
This. And fans will pay to see it. It also allows you to maybe a schedule a team you might not play often like IU or UConn or Illinois. Or even UCLA or Marquette. Some interesting matchups that allow you to see another play style without stressing about taking an L (even though we always want the dub).

It seemed Like EVERY season in the 70/80's

Only issue would be why would somebody we are in direct competition for recruits with agree to a game that benefits OUR NIL unless it's on a neutral court and the proceeds split 50/50.

Can see this being where Pope schedules St. John's and brings Pitino back in town. though I think they are looking at a regular season game anyway.

They used to scrimmage a lot of foreign teams as well as Athletes in Action, I think they actually had an exhibition against one of the Harlem Globetrotters secondary teams that used to play exhibitions like that.

Yeah, it would be a 50/50 split. But imagine a exhibition between UK and Duke. That would draw huge ratings and NIL revenue.

Arkansas beat Purdue last year.

KU this year.

Exhibition games may help players and coaches but fans overreact to them

Maybe but KU isn't that good and we saw that in exhibitions. Arkansas SHOULD HAVE been a FF team last year.....Muss let the wheels fall off and there was lot of......extracurriculars going on it seems.

So, they can be a good gauge of how decent you may be.

The Washington Generals?? That could be the nickname of the Arkansas team this year. Fayetteville Generals. Somebody post that picture of Sgt. Schultz with Cal’s face. 😆

No, the Harlem Globetrotters have or used to have a handful of traveling teams that went around and played some of these types of exhibition games. Not the Generals, they were still called the Globetrotters, just played without all the antics.
