SIAP: Kyle Tucker tweet about Reed Sheppard from yesterday.

How do you know this is the “right combinations” if we’ve never tried it another way? The lineup that’s played best this season ain’t the one we start. Instead it’s clearly been the three guard lineup where Reeves is at the three alongside Reed and either Wagner or Dillingham.

It’s generally a good idea to start the lineup that plays best for you. Perhaps Cal might consider giving it a try sometime.
We have tried it another way, are ya nuts? When DJ went down we started Reed and got beat by UNCW lol. Are you ignoring the facts??

I have give, we are playing good now and it’s better with Dilly and Reed coming off the bench. It’s been proven when Reed started when DJ was out and we got beat in Rupp by UNCW. Please stop the Cal bashing, it’s an awful look for ya this year.

He’s truly unbelievable!!! Love watching the young man play the game! GO CATS!!!
The older guys on this site will agree with me. We have had a lot of great basketball players over the years, but the only player that I can remember that was totally complete from all aspects like Reed was Mike Casey.

Coach Rupp would never name a starting five from all the great players that he ever had but he did say his first pick on making a team would’ve been Casey. While he never played for Coach Rupp Obviously, I believe that Reed would have been in his starting lineup.

You missed spelled Cal. Let me guess, you think it's cool looking and witty. Cow/Cal, you rascal you !! Too funny. LOL, OMG, I spit mountain dew on my phone reading it.

UGH.

We still have never started our best lineup. Against UNCW we stuck to the big lineup with Edwards at the three. That has plainly NOT been our best lineup. Instead, the lineup that has played best overall is the three guard lineup when Reeves is at the three spot and Sheppard is also on the floor (with Wagner or Dilly at the third guard spot).

At some point Cal might consider actually trying to start it.

Watching Reed is a delight. No one and I mean no one saw this coming. I watched him in high school last year and I thought ok, nice player that will be at Kentucky for a few years and will have the most emotional senior day ever.
At this stage, he will have the most emotional freshman final home gam…

so many babies in our entitled fan base...
Cal is trying to find the right combo and get players BETTER by giving them reps
It will all shake out by end of season...then we can bitch about minutes

You misspelled “misspelled.” LOL

This place always finds new ways to entertain.
Glad you caught it. It was intentionally spelled that way.

Yes. DJ Wagner who isn’t a selfish player averages more assists than Tre Mitchell who is an amazing passer for a big. Tre Mitchell played in 1 more game than DJ Wagner and has 2 more assists total and averages .1 fewer assists. LOL at using that to accuse a player of being selfish.
Did he say DJ was selfish? I don’t think he is, I just think he’s far more ball dominant than Reed. Also think, at times, he struggles to facilitate. His game is more straight downhill and attack the rim. Not nearly as balanced of a game as Reed. He attacks the rim at will. Occasionally hoists up an ill-advised 3 that he had to create to get. Finds open teammates a few times a game. Here’s the thing about the two…We all thought DJ was going to be the second coming of Wall, and it’s obvious he hasn’t been so far. We all thought Reed would be solid, but he’s been unreal level good so far. This has been a tough factor to navigate for most.

He was trying to backup @UK96GOAT who said DJ Wagner was selfish, jealous of Reed Sheppard, and wouldn’t pass the ball to Reed.

I’m not sure why so many want to defend his clown take.

Yeah, I don’t see that at all from his game. Selfish isn’t what I see. I see a player who is extremely ball dominant, a strong finisher, takes some bad perimeter shots, and not exactly a facilitator. He plays solid on ball defense as well. I still think the biggest issue is fans see he hasn’t met expectations and Reed has exceeded them. It creates this odd either/or dynamic. We need both to get 13. Plain and simple.

I’m not sure but I remember a team that had two really good players that didn’t get to start in 2014-15. The very next season, one was a starter in the NBA and was first team NBA all- rookie. The other player done great things the next season too. He won SEC Player of the Year, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and 1st Team All American. Two great players but not good enough to start in front of the Harrison twins.

This team reminds a lot of that team. Two great guards that on the bench playing behind two good guards. People are saying it’s working great. We are having a great season so far. So was that 2014-15 UK team but eventually coaching decisions matter
You have made a point I make every time someone mentions the 14-15 teams. Devin Booker turned into one of the top players in the NBA and wasn't he the youngest player to score 70 points in a game, two years removed from riding the bench for John Calamaria?
Not to mention Calamaria went into a 4-corner stall offense late in the Wisconsin game with Andrew Harrison going down the middle and missing 3 times to seal the deal for Wisconsin. I recall we had the NBA's #1 draft pick on the floor during that time, Townes.
Our Duffus coach didn't learn anything from that year as evidenced by how he manages this bunch of players. I like Cal as a media guy, and recruiter, the face of the university, but not as a coach. Thanks for posting.

Reed has a very good basketball IQ.
And this will be what makes him more successful under Calipari than some other great players. Reed knows far more about the game than Calipari, and Reed is smart enough to realize that. More importantly, Calipari knows that, and (hopefully) is more likely to give Reed the freedom to lead the team.
Reed seems to me to also be a wise young man (there being a vast difference between "wise" and "smart"), Reed's wisdom will enable him to overcome Calipari's overwhelming propensity to get scared at the end of every game and throttle the offense back, which of course puts a huge damper on the team's end-of-game confidence. I'm hopeful that Reed's unspoken but obvious leadership position with his teammates will gradually carry the day. if so, we could get No. 9.
Just MHO, of course. Go 'Cats ! ! !
