SIAP: A little panic in Fayetteville

Cal is not a bad guy. He's complicated, like probably every one of us on this board. You could build a compelling argument either way with him. I choose to remember the guy who took the 2012 trophy around the state to show all the fans while meeting them and their families. And I'll remember him letting us off the hook on all that money which allowed us to get Pope. Okay, he was looking around behind the scenes, but all coaches do that through back channels. Look at Stoops, who refuses to let us off the hook, by the way.
Stoops was just smarter than Cal about his “back channels “. Cal wasn’t planning on doing Mitch Barnhart any favors. He despises him .

Yes I think I’ve heard that before lol
And If you continue reading you’ll see I backed off that stance .
You know me J, I have moments of being a softy

🤣
I honestly have no ill will towards him. At the end of the day, he still got us a title and 4 final fours and made Kentucky a national name again. I was fed up by the end and was glad he moved on but he’ll always be a part of our history and that 2010-15 run was a blast.

I dunno. I get people hoping he flops. I just feel like being filled with bitterness is no way to live lol.

I agree with ^….I have no ill feelings towards Calipari. He was a consistently good recruiter, he won an NCAA championship and did a lot of charitable things for the state. I was happy that he chose to move on and did so without taking the buyout.

I wish that Stoops would do the same thing and leave without forcing UK to pay up…

On the flip side, he turned the bluest of the blue bloods into an NBA farm system, lost many games because getting players to the draft was more important, then, the asshole gave UK fans a nickname (Basketball Bennies) and he mocked us.

He made UK 'The University of John Calipari' and now, we want some vindication and a little payback. We want someone else to experience what we experienced, because up until now, the BBN was to blame. We were the reasons for so many issues and we "pushed him out". That's just wrong. The BBN did their part. The BBN filled every arena, bought in on all the NBA crap and treated Calipari like a God.

You don't get to treat a fanbase the way Cal did and just walk away without some backlash.

If he didn't talk down to us, call us Bennies and make wins a byproduct of his NBA draft first culture, we would feel differently, but he did all that.

I want him to fail at Arkansas the way he failed the last 4 years here and I want Arkansas fans to hear all the same Cal jargon. Then I want Arkansas fans to voice their frustrations. Then I want to see articles from the national media saying UK fans were right all along.

Let's not ignore what the national media and Arkansas fans said to us after Cal took the Hog job. They all put a finger in our chest and some laughed at us, others mocked us. I don't know about you, but I want the last laugh.

No game plan, no in-game adjustments and spews the male bovine feces in the postgame PC. I'm happy for you Swine fans.
Underwood did the same thing to them that Few did to us last year. He ran the same play over and over that second half and Cal as usual didn’t try anything different defensively and they got beat. That little euro PG and Big Z’s brother were in pick and roll every play and they got a layup or wide open 3 every single time.

I know this may be unpopular but it’s really kind of sad
Love or hate it’s never a good thing to see someone sink so low after riding so high
It makes me really sad. I was so hyped when Cal came. He gave us some amazing years, stocked the NBA with our guys, and I really enjoyed him honestly. Just over time you could see how lazy he had gotten. The 9-16 year, followed by Sharpe burnt Almost everyone out. It felt like we were so close to breaking thru again but the same problems happened over and over again. It wasn’t just bad luck with injuries, the poor game planning, losing to schools we shouldn’t. I always thought he would retire here as one of our greats. Instead he underachieved and burnt out. That made me sad.

I will say that move made me feel much better about him. Showed he cared about his legacy here somewhat with that gesture so we could easily move on.

He DID NOT have a choice about “taking the buyout “ .

It made me feel better that he left, however it happened we didn’t have to pay him. I honestly don’t believe Mitch outsmarted anyone. He signed not one but 2 of the worst contracts I’ve ever seen with buyouts.
Whether intentional or not , he was putting things in place he knew Cal wouldn’t accept. And when Cal went looking around he hit him with the breach of contract clause. He had the papers drawn up and hand delivered to Cals house the night he found out that Cal was in talks with Arkansas. I know the last part for a fact.

I am he finally did something, it seems like he let Cal do whatever for way too long.

Cal had all the leverage until the boosters came to Mitch and told him the money was there if he wanted to exercise the buyout. Mitch chose not to that because he didn’t want to spend money he would rather have for other things instead of rewarding Cal for underperforming. But he and Cal both knew the leverage had shifted .
