SIAP: A little panic in Fayetteville

Don’t buy any of this either but I will say this…
Arkansas is getting the Cal speak a lot of UK fans hated near the end, the excuses, the weird tweaks, the odd distant same ole same ole story from the beginning. Whereas, as UK when we first met Cal it was a breathe of fresh air, lots of good post game comments and it sold us for years because it was original. Now it’s old for them already

Yeah. I didn’t mean this to seem like I th8nk he’s gonna bolt. This was more of a “Uhih things aren’t well down there”.

And @Bkocats i agree. It’s sad to see what Cal has become. That video of him pushing his old dog in the stroller will make me sad for a long time. I liked Cal. Liked him a lot. And our decline kinda stared after my Mom died so it just was kinda joined at the hip. I just hope he’s not declining health wise and that’s what’s caused some of these issues. That would break my heart to be honest.

I honestly can't think of a bigger coaching decline and fall from grace. Part of it was the game changing from a style that he was perfect for, to a style that he wasn't good at.. but he more so just wouldn't change. He made no adjustments, never really understood what the fanbase wanted, and the more time passes, the more I think he just became embattled with the fans and media to the point he was almost doing things out of spite.

I think we've seen coaches who snuck in some success, but they were kind of one hit wonders (Chris Beard types).. and you've seen coaches decline because of age or a younger generation of the game that they don't align with (Bobby Knight, Izzo).. But I don't think we've ever seen something quite like this. Cal could clearly coach at a high level for 25 years. He's not THAT old yet, and there's no reason Cal can't still be successful if he just changes a handful of things.. and he just, would rather do anything BUT that, including watching his legacy go fully down the drain. It's self-destructive.

And it is very sad. I was a big fan. I would love to see a turnaround from him.

Just keep in mind guys, part of the DNA of Cal's current garbage is they will look like ass for a few games, then, when you think they're toast, the stars align and the conglomerate of pieced together players, pulls a crazy win out of nowhere. He won @ UT and @ Auburn last year.

That's going to happen this year and Hog fans are going to come at us and tell us we were wrong, but then disappear when they look totally lost the next game and lose at home to the worst team in the league.

His players first thing isn't set up for consistent team winning.

I was never much of a fan of Cal's coaching style *or* his personality. But when he let Shaedon Sharpe sit on the bench while the Cats lost to 15 seed Saint Peters in the first round of the 2022 tourney I was more than done with him. In fact, the entire Shaedon Sharpe episode defined Calipari's stay at Kentucky. Cal wasn't here to coach Kentucky basketball. He was here to channel players to the NBA. Kentucky basketball was just a tool that he used. Anyone who want's to feel bad for him will have to do so without any assistance from me.

I would have too but he like you said he is spiteful. You would think after failing with the same stuff over and over he would try to reinvent himself. He adopted dribble drive at Memphis to change. Why not adopt a new style now?

Yeah that season did me on as well. Especially the “get to the game early and see Shaedon warm up!” He’s gonna play tonight BS.

The entire Sharpe fiasco was just a lie and complete insult to the university and the fans

Cal is not a bad guy. He's complicated, like probably every one of us on this board. You could build a compelling argument either way with him. I choose to remember the guy who took the 2012 trophy around the state to show all the fans while meeting them and their families. And I'll remember him letting us off the hook on all that money which allowed us to get Pope. Okay, he was looking around behind the scenes, but all coaches do that through back channels. Look at Stoops, who refuses to let us off the hook, by the way.

Stoops can’t find anyone to take him his problem is he never has won anything except a few tidy bowls

The only way this is true is if Cal has found another lily pad to hop to. Arkansas fans are about the most apathetic fans I have ever seen. Most are a-okay with his loses so far this season. They won't give him any heat.

Yes I think I’ve heard that before lol
And If you continue reading you’ll see I backed off that stance .
You know me J, I have moments of being a softy

🤣
When Pitino took the UL job I wanted him/UL to lose every game and to get embarrassed while doing it. Being a Kentucky fan I want to Louisville to lose but I had taken it to a new, quite unhealthy (spiritually) level. I was more concerned about them losing than I was about Kentucky winning. My wife, being the most Godly Christian I have ever known, sat me down and reminded me about how if you wish ill upon your enemies that God would return it upon you, pray for your enemies. Well, I didn't pray for UL/Pitino to win but I quit worrying about them. Right now, I could care less what Cal does. If he doesn't change he will have the same, probably even worse, results at Arkansas than what he had at Kentucky the last few years. I am thrilled with who we've got as coach of Kentucky now and am having the most fun watching Kentucky play that I've had for a very long time. I'm just concentrating on Kentucky and the rest will be what it will be.

I definitely don’t care about Arkansas losing as much as I do our success but I do enjoy watching their games to see how validated we were and that everything we saw actually happened. It’s easier to see when it’s not your own squad and you have hope that it will be ok.

That's where I am. I don't actively care what Arkansas or Cal does to be honest. But every time we as fans have decided it was time to move on from a coach, we have been belittled by the media and talking heads. They call us crazy, delusional, and all sorts of other names. There's no doubt that if Cal was having success right now, that name calling would be amplified times 10. So, I'm simply glad that once again, our fan base has been proven right. We were right about Billy G, Tubby, and Cal. Maybe one of these days folks will realize that we know what we are talking about when it comes to basketball.

He honestly should just transition to a more business side of basketball. Like go be the president of some team somewhere.

Doubtful but we do and it’s obvious. We have seen plenty of great basketball over the decades. It’s not rocket science or advanced Mathematics.

As an aeronautical engineer I'd just like to say: rocket science isn't that hard. If you're good w/ Legos you'll be o.k.
Maybe not that hard to someone with a decent level of understanding. Have you seen the average American lately? I literally saw a tweet the other day that said “I couldn’t be a Sarah get mother unless ya baby daddy finna be my man my whole pregnancy.”

He'll let it play out for two years, get sick of Fayetteville, take a buyout and leave for a job with ESPN, the absolute perfect job for him. I can't wait for the Dribble Drive Special, only on ESPN4.
Not on the Ocho?

I know this may be unpopular but it’s really kind of sad
Love or hate it’s never a good thing to see someone sink so low after riding so high
I don’t necessarily disagree. Would have been a lot nicer if he just retired and admitted he lost his edge and is ready to slow down, do some media stuff, etc.

Now that he’s at AK I find myself rooting against him.
