Should Amari post up more?

He runs the point now and does a good job at that for a big man but… He has had two really good games in a row where he didn’t miss a shot or free throw. In games like this one would it not be better to feed him inside and let him post up and score or possibly get fouled or kick it out.

He should be and is almost automatic in the post.

Depends. They have success going to it in a pinch. However, you can't win at a high level running the offense that way. You can't win consistently not shooting threes.

I'd like to see him distributing from the post more rather than playing PG. That's where he's deadly and the corner threes are this team's strength.

I was wondering this as well. He is so big and powerful he can really do some damage down there. I just worry about his touch on his shot. He’s no KAT, but because of how deep he can get positioned he has been able to produce points down there pretty well. If we could get some sets where we feed him down there instead of making him drive or back down from the top of the key, that would be best because he can be turnover prone when he has to do that.

Actually I would like to see the Cats set the 3 up out of the post more, teams are not going to let UK shot the three off those screens, that has been the game plan since Georgia hacked us to death out on the perimeter and won.

He runs from the post. He will turn a dunk into a 5 ft fade away.

And “powerful”?

He’s the weakest guy his size I can ever remember seeing.

Terrible hands.

Coach had him playing his he needs to play.

There’s a reason a guy with that body is still in college.

Aaron Bradshaw played when?

I don't think Amari is the right fit for this offense. He can handle the ball, to some extent, but he can't shoot the 3. The defender defends at the free throw line which clogs up the passing lanes in the lane. In this offense, all 5 players on the floor need to be a threat from the 3 point line. Time will tell if Pope can recruit a 5 that can hit the 3.

I say 50/50 with either in post or running zoom out top
He can still be a distributor out of post but needs to make good decisions and not be careless with the ball unfortunately we need him to bring the ball up a lot
As far as Garrison he should only be a high pick & roll guy that’s it and only play 8 minutes He should never run the zoom or post up
Only roll to dunk

I am glad OP open this subject, cause currently our majority of our offense is initiated from the 3 point line. Would be interesting tweak if we would go inside to Amari first and forced the double team and that should leave a 3 point shooter open.

Something coaching staff should consider. Teams have learnt our offensive pattern . For the tournaments we should consider this and also other schematics changes.

Agree with this and many of the other posts in this thread. Have to have a threat to shoot from three running that offense or it bakes a major flaw into the concept.

I would feed him, but as defense collapses on him, he needs to read what is happening. Take it if he has advantage. Kick out for a 3 when the double team comes.

I don’t think it’s carelessness as much as it is fatigue. He’s gassed which leads to mistakes.

He turned it over 3 times in last 6 minutes, killer turnovers. He has played well the last few games but he's still a turn over machine. He needs to realize he's not Kevin Durant with the ball. He needs to get to his spots and put up high percentage shots.
