Some talking heads are probably playing into a character when they’re being insufferable, Digger Phelps mentioned above being an example (at least in my opinion). Those types of acts can take some criticism and not fly off the handle because the beef is with the character, not the person behind it.

Other guys though, not an act, it’s just who they are. I consider Greenberg in this second bunch. When he’s condescending, it seems like that’s just who he is and when he gets criticized as a result, it burns him up because it’s the core of his actual persona.

I don't know. You could be right. I think Seth is ultimately pretty mid at his job. I think he likes the attention because he knows he'll never be top tier amongst his peer group. So, he gets to be besties with a 'HOFer' and get attention from a huge fan base. What we're seeing is Greenberg's ceiling. Once this saga fades away, I think we'll see Seth Greenberg fade away as well. This divorce has value to ESPN, right now, it won't forever.

The moment I absolutely KNEW Greenberg was nothing but a shill for Cal was when he jumped on the "Kentucky needs new facilities" bandwagon that Cal was forcing down everyone's throats as his latest excuse for failure.

When you get paid millions as a coach or probably high six figures as a TV personality, you forfeit the right to criticize the passion of a fanbase. That passion is why you get paid what you do. So long as it doesn't cross into the criminal with threats or violence, it's fine. If it bothers you Seth, quit and go sell insurance or work in a factory.

At the end of the day, what Seth (and Jay Williams too for that matter) is mad at is UK fans saying " We Told You So!!" after a Spring, Summer and Fall of telling us we were wrong. With every Cal failure and UK success, we're going to keep reminding you of how bad you suck at your job but you asked for it. We know a lot more about it than you do, so STFU. As far as Arkansas fans go, other than thinking you got one over on us and running your mouths about it, I don't have a lot of hostility for you, other than same thing, "We Told You So"

Seth did something you shouldn't do as a member of the media, he befriended Cal and became too close to him, probably because he wants to be associated with a HOF coach. Now, he has no choice, he has to go out of his way to take up for Cal and fight his battles for him. The last thing he wants, is to lose his HOF idol.

Said this before.. the split between Cal and UK is something we've almost never seen in sports.

It's not like Cal was old, or retiring, or wasn't as good. He wasn't slowing down, or wanting to try coaching at a different level. He didnt get a promotion from another program.. He just seemingly gave up trying to win, and he almost did it out of spite. So the fans really have every right to kind of hate this guy, for at least the near future. They could have tolerated an aging Cal, one who tries but just doesn't have it anymore, or one who at least was taking the losses hard. This was totally different. It was a full on divorce.

To me it felt like he was TOO anxious during tournament games and was almost OVER worried about losing, which passes on to the players. We looked unbelievably tight in the St. Peter’s and Oakland games and had dudes play their worst games of the year.

I think Cal just isn’t a good coach anymore. The conspiracy that someone as competitive as him simply wanted to lose intentionally doesn’t make sense to me. If that was the case, it wouldn’t make sense for him to look bad at Arkansas too. Is he intentionally losing out of spite there also?

But he was the UK coach, at any point he could've told Sharpe and his handlers that he could either play or leave, and he didn't. That's the main issue I have, who was in charge in that situation? I know a player from the 2015 team who said Cal was so anxious that game that he caused the team to play tight. This isn't coming from my observation sitting on the couch watching, that was from a guy on the floor and in the huddles saying Cal's nervousness caused the team to play tight and afraid to lose.

The Dontai Allen situation was definitely out of spite. He knew the fans wanted Boston to sit and Allen to play. He showed us who the boss was that year and he looked like a fool too. That's when the Basketball Benny shit started.

Then, he looked like an even bigger fool, when he got ejected at Mississippi State and DA came in and torched the place, won the game while Cal sat in the locker room and sucked his thumb.

Then, just last year, he refused to play the most potent lineup in college basketball. He literally saw that lineup shred good teams, but we can't have that, nope, we're going to do it Cal's way.

Yeah, that guy did essentially throw winning in the trash can out of spite. He definitely did.

UK fans were proved accurate that Tubby was time to go...same with Cal. Fanbase usually can see when/who is going to work out and when. Guys like Greenberg are like fake news stuff....they just say the same buddy deal nonsense that any analyst would know better if he was breaking down pure basketball.

Seth can still be Cal's friend, but still be honest about the Cal/UK/Arkansas situation. He not being honest in his job, and to me, that makes him bad at his job. He can be a straight shooter, and a friend, but he's choosing not to be. It's actually a level of pettiness at this point. I can see why he and Cal are friends.

He could simply withhold criticism of Cal. Acknowledge the team isn't performing well and Cal has to figure it out, could even support him by saying things like, "I think he'll get it turned around." He's actually just making it worse by telling people their feelings are invalid and they shouldn't criticize Cal.

Once DFox and WCS came out and said he didn't care about winning and he didn't teach much about basketball, any complaint the fans had over the years were instantly validated.

Yep. A just a little over .500 career coach who made the NCAAT 3 times, beat a couple #1 ranked teams and made his living in the NIT. I'm not one to pile on but I really do not like him. He thinks way too much of himself and his credentials.

While I agree with you, I actually DO think there's a part of Cal that left because he knew it was best for both sides. He had the most critics within BBN that he'd ever had in his career there, even more than going to the NIT. He also wanted Brad on staff, and knew that wasn't an option at UK. So while I do believe he's lost his fastball, he's lost his competitive drive, etc - I also think he knew that he was no longer the right man for the job at UK
