seeing that most of us have been totally appalled by the officiating the last few games; what sec refs do you think are competent and fair minded? Ayers out. Shows out. Valentine out. Who do you like?

I'll trade SEC refs for any other conference Refs. It cannot get worse than it is now

I used to think Curtis Shaw did a great job , Valentine can only go so long during the game with out letting you know he is the guy in charge

I know many on her do not like Tony Green and I think at one point he did kinda have it in for UK. I believe he has mellowed and believe he is a good ref another that comes to mind is Roger Ayers believe he does a decent job,

So just sec refs suck right? Not ACC, PAC 12, Big 10, Big East, or Big 12?

Actually, yea. I was watching the Maryland /Indiana? Game a month back after UK was on. Amazed at the difference in officiating. They completely let them play. Some of these conferences seem like they can go 3/4 minutes will no foul calls. Some games in the SEC seem like it happens every 20-30 seconds at times.

Free flow is fine, even though I miss the mans game of "come inside, pay for it". I think fear helps seperate alpha mentalities from the beta's on a court. It's why Jordan was so incredible. Fearless. No one knows who's "fearless" today. There's no threat, but I digress.

The slight touches are part of the game. You can't create a "no contact" rule when it's a contact sport. I'm not one to bitch about our conference, but officiating has got to change.

Basketball officiating in the SEC is poor. But it has always been poor, for as long as I can remember. To hear some people tell it, you would think this is a new development.

Ayers, Pat Adam's, Valentine, Hess are the worst. I believe Ayers had clear bias against Cal and there was a stretch he didn't call games of ours I think bc of it. I got really bad that year there was an official right next to Cal yet for no reason Ayers T'd him up all the way across the court against UT. Pat Adam's is a weak minded man who T's ppl up for looking at him and baits ppl in techs by staring them down.

I don't mind Tony Greene.

As someone mentioned, the best refs are the ones who you don't notice so it's kind of difficult to put together a list after looking at officials who reffed UK games over the past few years. Of course there will be some calls or games where they make mistakes, but overall I think they do a pretty good job.

Tony Greene

Greene used to be very good, and then he was terrible for a while [mainly when Billy Gillispie was here, (and yes IMO it is the sign of a bad ref if he lets his personal disdain for the coach interfere with his ability to call the game). He's gotten better since then and overall is pretty good, especially at calming players down. But he still has problems with two things: 1.) the block-charge he regularly gets wrong and 2.) he tends to make calls from outside of his position when another referee is in better position to (not) make the call.

Ron Groover

Groover is one who I used to think was really good but he's gotten progressively worse of late. He was on the crew who called the Vandy game.

Byron Jarrett

Jarrett it's too early to say IMO as he's only reffed 9 UK games. I've generally had a good impression of him although he was on the crew who just did the MSU debacle.

Bert Smith

There's a few others who it's too soon to say.

Bruce Benedict was my favorite, but I am pretty sure he has retired.

I'd say Bert Smith is probably my favorite current ref. I like Joe Lindsay as well.

I think Poole, Lindsay and Jordan is as good as we would ever get.

I used to have Groover there but as you stated he is slipping.

And the nightmare crew:

John Higgins aka never saw a flop he didn't like.

Roger Ayers

With one of these:

Ted Valentine, Karl Hess, Doug Sirmons, Jamie Luckie
