Season is over

Another question, What happened to this high scoring team? These guys were avg close to 90 a game......

19 wins and they are in, idk how many times people have to see this, they have the best win in cbk
I think if Butler don’t comeback 19 wins will be the max for this team. They’ve laid down. I hope I’m wrong because it won’t do any good if they do get in the tournament. If you can’t play D you can’t win.

Did any of yall really think mark pope was gonna win a title? Lol
And yes, that’s all that matters here.

I think the players know that he isn’t coming back

The past few days have been brutal as a UK fan, but I’m over it. I’ll continue to watch and cheer and let the season play out. When we lost to Oakland I had zero expectations for this year as we were either stuck with an old style that didn’t work here anymore or in a complete rebuild. Pope did a great job of starting the rebuild, but we have kind of derailed in league play for various reasons. My hope got up, but really seems like this team is regressing back to their actual norm.

Get some guys like Oweh and Garrison back next year, hope a couple of the current freshmen take a big step next year, and really hit the portal for toughness and defensive help. I do think Pope can build a core group of guys over the next two years, but we got to see better efforts than we’ve seen lately, going forward.

We will be lucky to make the tournament with the schedule we have coming up. We will be favored in 2 maybe 3 of our up coming 9 games, assuming we lose tonight we are likely looking at finishing 4-6 ish and a 19-12 finish. Likely a bubble team.

Some of you are still stuck on that team you saw when we were 100% healthy, that team is gone.
Despite how bad we are now, our wins stack up against anyone. Making the tournament is not an issue. Anyone can lose (clearly). But who have you beat? That’s what matters most to the committee

We will be better when we get our point guard back, but yes we do have more losses coming than we would like. I kind of expected that this year though.

So go away, and STFU. Those of us with brains knew that this would be a process.

And we told you that when you pushed Cal out the door.

We don’t have a freaking point guard dude. Not one. Not a starter, not a backup. It’s kind of important in basketball.

The fact we beat Tennessee is a miracle.
So that means you can’t fight and show some balls in the first half??? Idc if you don’t have a pg or whatever, you can fight and get after people. Never knew the point guard was responsible for making guys want to fight and play hard, but atleast we showed a little in the 2nd half but too big a hole to climb out of.

You know what's funny?

I don't recall you ever starting threads like this when Calipari was the head coach.

Funny how the narrative has turned so easily for some of you now that Cal's gone.

I need someone to tell me if butler is coming back. If he is I’ll stay engaged with the season. If not then I’m gonna save myself misery and shift my focus to other things in my life
It doesn’t really matter if it comes back or not. Shift your focus. This team is going absolutely nowhere with or without him.

We were pounded in the first half today the same way that Gonzaga pounded us. The difference is that Gonzaga completely collapsed. And we were at full strength against them.

Who cares what he did or didn’t do with the last coach? No one hated the Cal lovers more than I did. But I’ve moved on and so should you. I’m a broken record on this, but I’ll say it again: take off the either/or glasses. This isn’t about preferring CCC or Pope to be the coach. We’re clearly in a situation where both CCC was washed up and Mark Pope was not the best hire. It is what it is and we’re stuck with it for the next few years.

Lamont butler would like to respectfully disagree with your last sentence

I specifically remember starting a thread about how something was wrong that we were starting Wheeler over Ty Ty and and how something in Cal had flipped that we weren't starting/playing the best players.

Somehow we are getting blown out by a bad Arkansas team and then Ole Miss back to back and posters like you are STILL bringing up Cal. Insane.

We damn well knew Cal was never winning another one
Yes, we are absolutely sure that Cal was never winning another title here. And most of us wanted him gone and are thrilled that he’s no longer here.

But that doesn’t change the fact that we made the wrong hire. You don’t hire a guy just because he won a title at your university and bleeds blue. You hire the guy who can win the title and we did not.

Dude calm down.

I held on to Cal’s rope and got bashed many times so I stopped posting (and I still think losing Cal ended up being a good thing for us).

On the same hand, you gotta realize Pope put a team together in a blink of an eye and lost BOTH point guards he planned on playing.

On the other hand though, if next year looks similar, start over. I’ll be way less forgiving with next years roster because he has a whole year to construct it. But we have to get a two year window before we start talking about Popes job.
Pope gets 3 recruiting seasons before we can judge his ability. This years certainly does not count. Starting into Pope's 5th year in Lexington is the earliest he should be judged. He did not have a prayer this year and he does not have anything close to an elite squad. We have two or three shooters but neither of them can guard a fence post set in concrete.

I checked out when Cal won in Rupp. Forgot they played today. I am assuming they lost, from the look of the board

I assure you if we only win two or three more games we’re on the wrong side of the bubble. But you keep telling yourself that a few wins will save us.

And does it really matter if we do make it? We’re going to have a really bad seat at this point in Mark Pope is going to continue his streak of not having any tournament wins.
"We" now that's funny.

Look. Triple C leaving was like making The Final Four. Good riddance. You even correctly stated he was ‘washed up’ in your post. Washed up means FOREVER. But don’t dismiss Mark Pope. College basketball has changed forever in a bad way. NIL is a terrible thing. It makes it hard as hell to win on a consistent basis. Mark Pope would take a bullet for UK and BBN. He’s smarter than 99.9% of BBN and Triple C left him with zero. Give him some time. Look at Hurley and all of the other old guys so many fans wanted … no thanks. Things have changed and if we’re an also ran for a year or two it’s okay. UK will be back but Triple C never will. GBB.

If we look this on defense next year, then there’s a bigger problem than we thought in Lex and it won’t go over well. Also, we’ve had elite talent look like hot dog crap on defense in the past so why do people think getting elite guys is a sure fire way to be better defensively????
