Scout Gives UK #1 BB Class Over Duke

Whether Kentucky or Duke has the #1 class kinda depends on how you value the reclassified players, Derryck Thornton, Jamal Murray, Isaac Humphries. I think highly of Ingram and Kennard but I would not trade their class for ours. Murray is the difference maker. But until they actually play and show what they can do for their teams, I think all these rankings amount to a lot of hype and overthinking.

I won't argue the rankings...........right now. I think Duke has 3 freshman, Ingram, Kennard and Thornton who are going to be really, really good. Ingrams and Kennards scoring are going to be needed on this team and I've seen Kennard several times and he's going to be outstanding. Jeter may be a key also but I think hen will need more time to develop at the college level. After the UK recruits are long gone, Kennard, Thornton and Jeter will be back to play with Tatum and Giles and 2017 will be a tremendous year for Duke basketball!!

Yep, Thornton just couldn't stand to wait any longer.. He HAD to be by Coach K's side, playing for Duke a year early.. Nothing to do with a looming NBA pay day.

What a dumb comment from a bandwagon fanbase.

Good thing there's only 2, maybe 3, one and done in this class.

At least Duke doesn't bother with those...

oh.

What is really funny is ESPN flashes their player rankings for high school all year long and who knows what Murray is even ranked with them, the last time I checked I don't think they had ranked Murray in 2015. I will never forget when they had Avery Bradley ranked 1 ahead of Wall and Cousins and they would put up the player rankings every game.

If I am not mistaken ESPN does not rank foreign players, so Murray is not listed and won't be.

Look at it this way, UK got possibly the best player in the class in Skal because its either him or Simmons. We also got probably the best scoring/playmaking guard in the class with Murray certainly the hottest on the national scene. Briscoe was arguably the best PG in the class. Matthews was ranked really low for his size and skill set. Mulder is as good a shooter and athlete coming out of JUCO as weve ever seen at UK. Humphries at 7 foot over 250 lbs is a quality center backup. Throw in Wynyard at 6-10 250 now for post depth and I don't see how its NOT the #1 class. Add them to Ulis, Poythress, Lee, Hawkins and Willis and we have another national title contender.

Just look at the class on paper and its terrific
- Skal 7-0 220
- Murray 6-5 200
- Briscoe 6-4 215
- Matthews 6-6 205
- Mulder 6-5 200
- Humphries 7-1 250
- Wynyard 6-10 250
- David 6-2 185

I wish Fox would get so big that ESPN would have to close there doors.
That would make my Day.

That will never happen. ESPN is leagues ahead of fox. And they are owned by Disney and a huge name overall. Doesn't matter who runs the show UK fans will complain to no end. From what I've seen fox sports sucks other then baseball and the nfl. And the only reason I like those for fox is joe buck.

We already knew we had the #1 class, we didn't need anyone to tell us, but it's nice to brag about to rival fans, can't wait man, this year is gonna be fun

I've never understood getting so hyped at class rankings at the begnning of the season. Do we win something for that achievement? It's flattering I guess, I'm just more interested in the rings at the end of the season.

"It's not even close" is way over the top.

Duke's class
6'9" Brandon Ingram
6'2" Derryk Thornton
6'5" Luke Kennard
6'11" Chase Jeter
7'1" Antonio Vrankovich
6'7" Justin Robinson (son of NBA great David)

Robinson and Vrank the Tank will need time to develop but by their junior and senior years they will be solid college players. Thornton will be back for his sophomore year to play with Tatum and Giles. Count on it.

  1. I think Ingram, Thornton and Kennard will wind up averaging 40 ppg between them (maybe more). Let's see what UK's top 3 freshman wind up averaging.

I don't understand why anyone really cares. Bragging rights? We had better players last year, but Duke still won it all. I'd rather have the best team instead of the best players.
You know, there might be some relationship between the two......

I wonder how often having the number one class has resulted in a title the next year? How about in the few years after? I know Duke just did it, and I'm sure that the Davis class was number one... But other than that?

You do realize that there's more to basketball than scoring, right?
