School shooting at Marshall County

Pretty sure he felt like he was doing this.

Because it isn’t just one thing. Never is when things go this bad.

Pinpointing 1 thing is the best way to excuse other factors as irrelevant.

Medications play a role, but so does seeing it on the news(copycat), bad parenting, bad teachers, lack of security, increase in guns per capita, increase in guns by people who do not respect guns, the world as a whole being faster and faster.

You just can’t say it’s 1 thing.

I agree. However, many of those things existed prior to the mid 90's.

Raymond was just the first example off the top of my head... bigger point was in pop culture we went from competent, assertive father figures like Cliff Huxtable to bumbling, "bless their heart" fools like Homer Simpson.

agree. I have a 9 year old. try watching disney and nick sitcoms for kids today and you rarely see one where parents are potrayed as strong role models if you see parents portrayed at all in some.

Yeah, I don't even have kids and I notice this... and I have no idea why this happened.

Like the Huxtables were a team, him and Claire? would work things out and raise the family and whatever. Homer and Ray Romano however are hanging by a thread while the wife keeps everything in order somehow at least... I can't imagine how much worse today's shows probably are.

The whole notion of media portrayals of men will get you laughed at by some. That’s ok. I can’t say this causes school shootings but it’s safe to say our cultural slide coincides pretty much along the same arc as the destruction of the nuclear family, across all races.

The fathers are portrayed as bumbling idiots on many of these sitcoms. Writers must be women or gay.
