SB Nation ranks us #50

That could happen but whether you like him or not Bobby Petrino 9 years as a College Head Coach 6 years of 9 plus winning seasons and 2 years with 8 win seasons...not likely they will go 5-7.

Fact is UofL is pick at ACC Media Days 3rd in the ACC Atlantic and has the 4th best odds of winning the ACC in Las Vegas

One problem...Clemson who does less with more...still beat UL last year with a back up QB. UL also ALWYAS (VA, UCF, Cuse, UConn) loses a game its not supposed to....so you need to take that into consideration. UL could waltz into the ACC championship and has the same chance of putting up a 5-7 season. The one thing going for the Cards is they have the pre-season SOS of 50. http://www.fbschedules.com/2015/03/2015-college-football-strength-of-schedule-ncaa-method/

This is true. I have a hard time seeing 5-7 (though I think that is the "floor" for UL). If I'm being objective, I would guess that UL will win at least one game that it's not supposed to win (that was ND last year), so the best candidate for that would be clemson. It's a thursday night game, Clemson is losing players to injury and suspension every week, and Clemson is young without a lot of returning experience.

On the other hand, you're 100% right that UL always loses at least one game to a "lesser" team. You mentioned all of the examples of that - UVA, UCF, Cuse, et al. This year that could easily be Pitt, NCST, BC, or (heaven forbid) UK (or perhaps 2-3 out of this group if Card fans worst fears come true).

I think UL is likely a 7-8 win team if i had to bet on it.

Again Watson played and when he was in the game-(and the game was in Death Valley) he was completely ineffective...and Louisville was without Parker and Dyer and should have won.

This year the game is in Louisville...no Parker again but Louisville is returning much more experience players and the replacement are considered extremely talented for Mauldin-(Fields) and for Sample-(JHC).

We have a home game on a short week against a brand new team that also has a 1st Time Offensive Coordinator and their QB coming off ACL Surgery

...The real kicker for UL is not the total SOS but the timing early....They start 0-1 vs Auburn then have 7 days to prep for Houston but only 5 days to prep for Clemson....so they will be prepping for Clemson during the Houston. That leaves them VERY vulnerable to the UPSET to an experienced and high scoring Houston team...only to come back and lose to Clemson starting 0-3. With 3 tough games coming down the pipes...@ NC State @ FSU, and BC...and of course they lose the last game of the year...

Clemson does reload with talent as they have recruited at a very high level for a while now. However, Clemson is one program that seems to do less with more than just about anybody. They will return lots of talent but they always have talent. I think if UL wins a game they are not supposed to win it's Clemson. I know Clemson has been picked to win the division by several media outlets but I just can bring myself to believe they are going to be that much better. UL is very unlikely to walk out of Tallahassee with a win. NC State is a tough game on the road but I expect the Cards to win. Pitt could suprise this year but they are on the 8th coach in three years. UL could waltz right into the ACC championship game with one loss in conference and a couple of losses by FSU.
Two well reasoned, objective posts about UofL football. I agree with everything said (except losing the last game of the year [winking]) but in no way, shape or form am I holding my breath the Cards can slip into a divisional title. Simply too much anxiety about O-line play to think like that. A rough start is very possible and, if that happens, a key intangible for the Cards will be "staying positive" for the rest of the year.

Peace

I could care less about BP history because he's never been anywhere long enough to build a program. He uses other coaches players and then bolts when its time to rely on his. His downfall this year is because Strong phoned in his classes after TB(Hurtt$$$) . The talent is not around to match the increase in SOS. My guess is UL ends up with either 7/8 wins this year but because they start out so slow its hard for them to get much past the 30 ranking mark if at all.

UL lost 30 of its 2 deep players off last years team....how is that MUCH more exp?? and either way...Clemson replaces its losses with MUCH better players that UL....that's why they are picked to with the ACC...why they are picked ahead of UL and top 10/15 by most....

Watson was a true Frosh....so what he came out slow in ur game...he also went for 18/30 for 300 yards and 2 td 0 int since he came back from his torn ACL. Hes played @ UGA, @ Ga Tech, and @ FSU...I don't think the pizza box will bother him....

1. As for Petrino doesn't matter if you care or not he wins at a high level in College Football including the SEC West with substandard talent.

2. He tore his ACL in the Georgia Tech game...he is playing behind a brand new Offensive Line against a Defense that returns 10 out of it 14 on the Defensive Front Seven...the majority of the losses were on the Offensive side of the Football and the starters in the Defensive secondary.

You have a young Offensive Line going against Fields on one side and Rankin on the other on a short week on the road..good luck

Did not know he got hurt again against GTECH....

fields has not played FB in what 2 years....lets see how he does before we think he's still the same player. the real issue is how is UL going to score....no QB no OL...Quick the pot head the leader of the WR....IF Bobby Moped is an O genius this is the time to prove it....

Fields played at a JuCo in 2014...as far as the upcoming season again going into 2015 Louisville is consensus Preseason Top 30ish which is fair...Kentucky is undervalued I would put them around 40ish...we will find out in a few weeks.

Louisville see at 8-4...Kentucky 6-6 to 7-5...JMO

UL really needs the OL and QB play to be much better if they are going to have a big year. I think the true Freshman they have is the best of the bunch. I just don't think Bonnafon ever becomes a great QB. Good athlete yes. Gardner is serviceable but made of glass. I think the OL may struggle early as they are likely to have two true freshmen in the top 7. What was left over from last year wasn't anything to write home about.

The D is good not as deep as years past but great front 7 talent. I despise Fields and what he did as much as anyone. We have gone over the UL "rehabilitation" program for other school's rejects here at length. They simply don't care and they care even less that others care. It is what it is.

We really want to call what he did "play" in JUCO????
“On Saturday, Fields hardly looked like a potential first-rounder, let alone a college star,” the story said. “He jogged on many plays, stood and watched passes downfield, and even got pancaked by an undersized left tackle. Fields spent most of halftime standing outside the locker room, briefly killing ants climbing on his cleats. He stood a few feet away from a tented concession stand in the stadium’s south end zone where conies, sausage-on-a-stick and Frito pies were in high demand.

“Fields’ play didn’t get any better after halftime and he admitted it was ‘somewhat’ hard to remain motivated. ‘That’s not really an excuse,’ Fields said. ‘Just being lazy.’”

I don't think we are far off in our projections though....and I know UK has to get results ON FIELD this year with 8 home games and a road game at Vandy.

The talent is there and apparently after a slow start is having a good Fall camp...we will see

Again pretty much nailed how I see it

PE you keep trumpeting that Clemson only returns 5 starters and will be a huge step back(was reading on your board as well as here)....But they are the common favorite to win the ACC. So which is it...is the ACC that far down or are all those people wrong or could it be that Clemson will just reload??

They a down to 3 now....one of their OL was kicked out and just went into the NFL Supplemrntal Draft and one of their DB is now out for the year due to injury.

Also...FSU should be the favorite to win the ACC

But Clemson is favored by the coaches/talking heads to win....even after losing so much....
They have 7 of the conf top frosh....by Athlon....

You did not answer my question....

The ACC is down. FSU and Clemson are reloading. Va Tech isn't great. Duke while a lot better doesn't scare anybody. Miami is still a train wreck and will likely be average. Ga Tech is going to be good. It's very likely the ACC is the conference left out of the playoffs this year.

People also forget that Chad Morris the Offensive Coordinator left Clemson for SMU.

Which I find insane over Florida State...heck the same talking head have Louisville along with Virginia Tech as Darkhorses to win the ACC which I don't agree with either.

Athlon problem is they come out so early they miss late developing issues...you have a problem when your only returning OL is your Center and you are breaking in two new OT and you play Louisville, Georgia Tech and Florida State-(which has out recruited Clemson)

My guess is its because Clemson is loaded at the skill positions and most consider that QB the best player in the league (even after the ACL). If I had only 1 returning OL I would want it to be my C though.

Loaded at skilled positions yet lost everyone on their 2 Deep on their Front Seven 2 Deep Defense...and as of right now only 1 healthy DB with experience in their secondary.

Myself with a QB coming off a knee injury and a early college history of getting injured would rather have a Left Tackle over a Center...FSU has more coming back and again even better recruiting classes
