Roster Movement Summary

Duece Hogan (QB-Iowa) don’t count toward Portal numbers because he’s a walk-on. So Robinson, Manning, and Henry- Young makes 3 with hopefully 4 more to go.

I’ll update the list again soon. Could hear announcements about CRod, Dare, Square, Ajian, other potential returnees at any moment.

For clarity only two listed under transfers out have actually transferred. Some of these may eventually stay.
However at this point it looks like the 85 limit isn't going to be an issue, and in fact if all these guys go we will need to take the full 7 through the portal and add 3 more HS players
We can add 32 scholarship players. It doesn't matter where they come from. It's a common misconception that I have seen even journalists write, but if you look the the NCAA website there is no directive as to who the scholarships may be given to. It only says if you have 7 or more transfer out, then you may offer 7 additional scholarships, so you could theoretically sign 32 transfers or 32 high school players.

Yeah, I didn't get that one either. Kids usually leave for more PT or a better program. Goodfellow starting P all year as far as I remember
Goodfellow started punting in the 2nd or 3rd game after Berry demonstrated he could not kick longer than 39 yards. Berry was supposedly hurt, but if he got better, he never won the job back.

He had a nagging back injury and Goodfellow was doing so well, they just decided to redshirt Barry. Goodfellow was a walk on and Barry has the scholarship. They are confident Barry will be fine and they weren't going to risk shutting the door on the Aussie pipeline.

Goodfellow’s average was very good. He was solid for us. Helped us get wins.

Agreed, though clearly the staff didn't want to upset the apple cart to bring Goodfellow back when they feel they have comparable talent on scholarship and he's from Australia.

I am not sure what they thought, but it is possible Goodfellow saw an opportunity to expand upon his education at another school. I have never seen Berry kick a 40 yarder. I know that Duffy said Berry is very good, I just have not seen it yet. If Berry has the same problems next year, I suspect Smith will be our punter.

I know that Vandy might take a portal punter. Maybe Goodfellow ends up there.

He was told he did a great job, but we don't currently have a scholarship for another specialist and that he could stay on as a walk on. He chose to look for a scholarship, which he should definitely receive.

That being the case we could take 13 transfers since we only took 19 HS players, so long as they have 7 or more transfers out and don't hit the 85 cap.

We will need them all. This seriously guts our 85 man scholarship level. Question is if we can fill up the entire allotment. Next one is- Can we upgrade personnel at each spot? I'm glad this staff is on it. I'd be freaking out trying to get things back in shape after so many have jumped ship

We’re minus 10 in the portal (14 out, 4 in). Plus the graduates and WR and Dare leaving early for the draft. So far. Pretty serious roster turnover it seems. We’ll surely get a lot more help from the portal, but wish there were more now so they could be here for spring practice.

We do have a few returning super seniors and a couple in the portal could return, but overall I’d say UK has room for 6-7 more.

Correct and given the developments over the last 24-48 hours, I'd say we need the portal more than ever now. We need immediate help at LT and CB, desperately and if we don't get an avg to above LT, then thigs are going to look a lot different next year than we are expecting. We have been fortunate to have 5 years of exceptional LT performance, but in case you forgot Landon's first year was not that great. He was thrown into a starting role because Mossier got hurt and it was not always pretty. We need an experience LT to allow Goodwin to develop by playing swing tackle back up snaps. If he plays his way into a starter in year one, then wow, but it's not ideal for him to start day one.

Is there a “reverse portal” for lack of a better term? Meaning, is there a place teams like UK can post their needs - such as “UK really needs a LT and CB?”

Obviously, we can see the LT’s and CB’s that are “already” in the portal and approach them. But, what about a player that is not yet in the portal who would maybe enter the portal if they knew the position needs of a quality team like UK?

I don’t think this mechanism exists currently, but maybe I’ll be surprised. Assuming it indeed does not exist, how does UK ethically spread the word about positions of need? Just a lot of word of mouth?

Most of the “pre portal” stuff goes on behind the scenes and without direct contact with the coaches.

My GUESS is a parent, HS coach, trainer make first contact if a player has not entered portal. Once a player decides to enter its open season on that player

Noticed the last two years Tayvion Robinson was thrown to 127 times and he had only two drops. A four star, I wonder how he compares to Wandale in terms of quickness?

If I read this correctly and everyone in the portal leaves then that equals 25. We’ve added 4 from the portal and 4 more as super seniors so 8 total. I recall someone saying UK signed 19 during signing period. So 8 + 19 = 27. That’s more than leaving. So if UK started with 85 allotment (I’m assuming they were at max)…Do they have room to add anyone else if others don’t leave?

Goodfellow returns with a scholarship. This is good news for UK. The need for a solid punter is most evident when you don’t. I got the feeling that Collin was just starting to really focus on his craft. He could be very good for UK next season.

Do SuSrs count against the 85 this year? Think they do, not sure.

I believe they didn’t last year but do this coming year. That’s why I’m wondering how many spots UK has left and why they are giving one to Goodfellow (although I do like him as the punter).

Some more former players have decided their new school. Thanks to all those who have contributed in keeping this list up to date.
