Romeo Langford

He's not a Monk or a Murray. I've watched this kid for years. He's very good but not a must have recruit. IU is in much shape then people think. Tons of pressure to go to IU. I can't see UL being a destination. I've heard Duke and UNC for a few months. Kansas is not a player. New Albany is very pro/anti UK and UL so I don't see either school landing him

I don't know if any of these players from Indiana are from that area but we have recruited the state of Indiana well in the past. Mychal Mulder, Trey Lyles, Marques Teague, Julius Mays, Walter McCarty, Sean Woods, Kyle Macy, Jim Masters, Roger Harden, James Blackmon, and Mike Flynn. Plus oldies like Dampier, Steele, Kron, Barker and Parkinson. That's a lot of good and great players.

Cal is not perfect and never lands every recruit he goes after, but to act like Cal is not one of the best when it comes to recruiting in college basketball, well, it is just as dumb as thinking Cal recruits 100% with recruiting. The fact Cal has landed so many elite recruits in the past doesn't mean this kid will be a lock to come to Kentucky, but if you think this kid will ignore all of Cal's past in recruiting elite talent, you don't know how recruiting works. I'm sure this kid will look hard at UL and IU. Too close for the kid to at least not even consider them. When it is time to decide, the kid will decide to stay as close as playing at Kentucky will allow from his home. Cal will put the ball in this kids hands and allow him to develope. Rick might do this, if the kid sticks around and works hard as a junior. When I watch this kid play, I don't know why, but the kid just looks like a Cal type of player. Once this kid figures out the same thing, the backlash and crying from IU and UL fans will be something you won't want to miss.

bonbyellis, I strongly disagree with your assessment of Romeo's talent, but you're more than entitled to your opinion.

I disagree. He is the real deal. Will be as good or even slightly better by the time his FR year comes around than Monk or Murray.

As someone who works on Vincennes St in New Albany, has seen him play over 20 times, and know plenty of people involved in New Albany sports, I haven't once heard UNC mentioned seriously. IU will be on his final list, but he has no desire to go there with the team they will be putting on the floor. I feel the same with UL. UL & IU are going to be DOWN this year. IU more so, but IU will be lucky to go 500 & UL will be lucky to sneak into the tournament.

Romeo wants to win as he has repeatedly shown at New Albany and his efforts in the S16 to win titles in HS. IU and UL do not give him that opportunity.

It will come down to UK and Duke for Romeo. One will get Reddish and the other Langford. No chance that they play together, in my opinion. UK has a lot to offer when it comes to minutes and has shown excellent success in Murray, Monk, and Fox at bringing in OAD players, turning them into stars, and getting them drafted higher than was expected. Just look at Fox and Monk rise in all the mock drafts.

IU and UL have shown nothing of the sort and give him no chance of winning the tournament his one year in college. That's why he ends up elsewhere despite what he says to appease both fan bases.

Romeo to UK and Reddish to Duke would be my guess right now, but that could change. I'd be fine with getting either one, though.

I'm not saying I'm super connected to Romeo are talk to him frequently, I'm just pointing out the facts as I see them and UK/Duke offer Romeo what he's looking for in his one year in college. IU & UL don't. He will continue to appease both fan bases, but end up in Lexington or Duke when it is all said and done. Choosing IU or UL will cost him millions in draft position and give him no chance at coming out of college on top. For a kid that is a winner through and through, they don't offer him the opportunity he wants in his OAD year.

After seeing what those 4 teams do on the court this year, UK and Duke will show him what kind of school he wants to spend his year in college at.

All in my completely worthless opinion, as always

Not trying to be disrespectful, but this analysis is filled with wholes and conjecture. UL is not going to be down next year and doubtful Indiana won't bounce back quickly with Miller as the coach. You are ignoring that Langford is also an Adidas kid, yet his two favorites are Nike schools? Not saying Duke or Kentucky aren't players in his recruitment, but I'll wager he ends up at Kentucky or an Adidas school. Edit: Also, since Reddish is expected to end up at Duke, it's not a stretch for you to predict Kentucky with your assumption it is a Duke/Kentucky race.

Southern Indiana, where Langford is from, is about 5 miles north of Louisville. We have a couple REAL big 4A HS's close by in Jeffersonville and New Albany.

Bloomington is a good 2 hour drive northwest from here. Honestly, the best player to come out of this area in the last 15 years, is probably Anthony Winchester from a TINY town that might have 500 kids in their entire high school.

He went on to score 5ppg, 14ppg, 18ppg, & 18ppg at Western Kentucky and won POY in the Colonial Conference as a SR.

New Albany and Jeffersonville produce D1 players every few years, but no superstars in quite some time. Within a 2 hour area in Southern Indiana, Romeo Langford is the most talented player since Larry Bird to come from this area.

Langford plays for New Albany in 4A which is the largest class of school in Indiana. He thrives on winning which he showed in a big way by taking New Albany to win the 4A state championship as merely a SO in 15-16 after scoring 46 in Semi State and 12 points in the 4th quarter for the comeback win in the 4th quarter. They finished the season with a single loss.

As a JR, despite scoring 44 in Regionals, he couldn't carry his team to a second straight state title.

This year as a SR, it wouldn't shock me if Langford scored over 50 to carry the team on his back from sectionals #1 to sectionals #2 to regionals #1 to regionals #2 to semi state, to finals.

It looks like New Albany will start off at #3 overall in the state at the 4A level, but this is Romeo's SR team and I'd put money on them taking the title home once again. He is a winner and will not accept another early exit to his season.

He'd need about 35ppg to break Damon Bailey's once thought of impossible scoring record. I won't put anything past him after seeing his effort to win the last 2 state titles. As a SR, nobody will deny Romeo of going out on top.

Good post.
Do you remember Pat Graham?

Sure do! Was a bit before my time, but my dad took me to a couple games to see him play.

Even as a youngster, he was such a great HS player for Floyd Central. Dad was so happy he won Mr. Basketball.

It's a real shame that his game didn't seem to suit college basketball the way it did HS. Coming out of HS, people thought he'd bring Bobby Knight at least a title or two instead of riding the bench until he put up 12 a game for the general as a SR.

Never understood how he was such a great player in HS, but never even saw the floor at IU. I thought he'd move on to the NBA and be a main stay for quite a few years.

Similar to Damon Bailey never being able to stick around in the NBA. Got to see him play for the Ft Wayne Fury a couple timesz though. I think they're the mad ants now, though.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always!

You may not know he got hurt. Knee issue during end of senior year and it basically took him out. I was a junior while Pat was a senior. I was a multi-year state wrestling champ that was close with the bb players and played (awfully) against Pat and Damon many times in pickup.
Good guys.

Darryl Baker was better than Winchester but he fizzled out in JUCO due to grades and off court issues. Played against Pat from 3rd grade on. He contributed much more in college than I ever expected him to. Not a knock on him. Good dude even if he was from Floyd.
