Rigged Finebaum show busted by UK fan

A UK caller just got on the Paul Finebaum show by pretending to be a Bama fan from Tuscaloosa. The first thing the caller said to Finebaum was that he called earlier and said he was a UK fan from Kentucky and they wouldn't put him on the show. He then said he called right back saying he was an Alabama fan and they put him right on.

This visibly upset Finebaum as he knew the rigged show was now outed. He quickly cut off the caller and made some disparaging remark about the cats.

I have suspected this for some time as the BBN has perhaps the strongest call-in fan base in the country (esp. for basketball) yet the UK fans that are heard from on his show are few and far between.

I find myself flipping the station frequently from his show as he puts the same Bama fans on everyday and we get to hear little from the other 13 schools' fans.

I notice the same crud. Its the Alabama show with some other SEC schools mixed in.

It's like they wait for the dumbest/biggest hick to call in just so they say something stupid or getting really mad at Paul. I like the guy I just hate the bias, granted UK football hasn't really done much for itself in the past to warrant airtime. It gets old hearing about Alabama that's why I stopped watching. I do like Finebaum though, think he is a very knowledgeable guy and represents the SEC well.

I watch the show as well. Mostly to get any info that may be given about UK. Paul can't say anything nice about UK unless it's tied to some negative narrow minded view.

It's not that big of a deal. It's his show. He built it, let the man run it how he wants. When UK starts making more noise, UK will get more airtime, that's how that works with all schools. Understand though, numerous people call all at once. Just because he didn't answer for said UK fan the first time, but answered for the UK fan posing as an Alabama fan the second time means nothing. He got picked to speak. It's hardly "busting" him.
Heck, I'd be visibly irritated as well. If I had a popular show that people came onto to speak, and this stranger starts on a conspiracy theorists rant, I'll probably hang up on it as well, nothing to hear, nothing to see.
Shame on the UK fan that would consider posing as an Alabama fan for one second to try to make some silly, meaningless point. Do I agree with Finebaum? Very rarely, but it is his show, and he does reserve the right. It's no mystery that he's incredibly opinionated. Hell, the guy trolls Alabama fans almost daily over the tOSU loss, I'd answer as many of their calls as I could too. They usually call in on drunken rants, or to melt down on air, which is far more entertaining than anything we have to say for now. Maybe we'll get to the point of being national contenders, or SEC contenders, and melting over losses in those scenarios (hopefully we win those games and don't have to melt), but for right now, count your blessings. You're not missing out on anything by not being picked to speak live on the Paul Finebaum show.

Isn't that show a Bama Sports Show anyways. I have never viewed it as anything other than a Bama Sports Radio / tv show.

It's suppose to be a SEC show on the SEC Network. In reality, it is Paul's Alabama radio show put on the SEC Network to be airtime filler. At this point I'm just happy to get a little UK news from time to time. I do believe if UK starts winning regularly, shows like this will air more UK news.

I listened to that show a lot this year from Jan-early April and it was the UK basketball show a lot of the time...and it was almost always UK fans calling in. Now one can say "no one else cares" and I'd agree with that to an extent, but my point is the bigger programs are gonna get more airtime in each sport.

That is pretty hilarious that Finebaum was exposed by a UK fan though. I'm not sure that anyone with a brain did not already know that show is slanted towards the nutjobs of the bigger fanbases getting through. Jason (poster on here) said those nutjobs get paid (that call in everyday), and that would not surprise me...at the least I figure Tammy, Phyllis, I-Man, etc, get a special phone number to call to get right through. No doubt in my mind on that one.

I was watching the show today when this happened. Right after the guy from Kentucky outed him, they took 2 calls from Kentucky. Paul made a comment "See we take callers from Kentucky" it was pretty funny.

Have to admit. Today Larry from Alabama called in while Marcus Spears was on the show. It was the most entertaining call I ever heard on a call in show. It was 3 pm Birmingham time and Larry already had 7 beers in him and was going strong. Thought Marcus Spears was going to lose it.

KSR likes to have the same callers calling in. You don't think they have a direct line?? I actually listened to the show after our win Sat. They were calling for some caller to give them a ring. Was mentioning it over and over again. Shows are hard as hell to get on so if you have the same people all the time then they have direct access.

As far as Jason saying they got paid.... I believe it, I ran across an article about some service that provided callers into talk shows. Their are also crisis actors where they go on tv and act like this terrible tragedy happened and they are actors.

My buddy who is high up in gov In Washington told me a lot of stuff you see on the news is not even real. Most of it is propaganda to steer the public into thinking one way or to convince them to give up certain rights.
He was saying that the TSA security check points at air ports is a total wash. Are full of molesters and those who want a cheap thrill. Very little of anything is prevented.
With his position he gets to carry a side arm on him when he flies and he said half the time he doesn't even tell em about it.

Fab Cat...is that picture of the chocolate lab Loyalty a tee shirt or did you make that poster?
I have a chocolate lab that looks just like that one. Please give me info on that.
Thanks

Because it's funny stuff to listen to. There has to be come comedic value for a show to succeed. There's just not much appeal to hearing "yeah Paul, I think we have a good chance at making some noise in the east this year, I'd like to hear your thoughts on that..."
Some of those callers have been calling into his show for years, so clearly they're going to jump to the front of the line. If Kentucky had that one, absolutely bat$#!t insane caller, like Phyllis, or Tammy, then he/she would get more airtime than most Alabama fans as well, because it's funny to see.
He has the make it interesting, for his sake, and the viewers' sakes.
All that said, yeah, I'd love for Kentucky to get more airtime. Win this week, we'll get more. Win next week, we'll get a lot more. Go into the Auburn game undefeated, with it being on a Thursday night, we'll hear a lot about Kentucky. That's just how it works.

I seen the call on PFs show today and it was funny. It's his show to do as he sees fit , but just say that don't misrepresent this fact. It was funny watching Finebaum squirm and get a little pissed. Then they push a UK fan right on to try to cover their bases. It was a funny situation.

The afternoon underdogs here in Louisville have 1 UK fan and 1 UofL fan that call in on slow days or whatever. Thing is, they both work down the hall from them.

790 wouldn't even exist if UK fans would completely boycott it. UofL fans can't support it on their own.

Why does anybody outside the state of AL pay attention to this guy? He believes no football is played outside the SEC and no good football is played outside the state of AL.

Peace

I have to defend Paul here. You are 100% wrong on the "no football is played outside the SEC" as he has bashed SEC people getting on OSU for their schedule and has said again and again they are going to win it all and have to beat good teams to do it. He is more of a SEC guy, but for God's sake..look at what network he is on. He does do College football live with Kanell two days a week and talks all conferences and knows his stuff on them and gives praise when it is due.

I'll also add to the talk about the bigger name programs/fans getting most of the airtime thing that this happens on all national/regional radio/radio/tv shows. Mike and Mike always talk about the same lame ass teams every year for each sport unless there is something bizarre going on that justifies talking about a small market team. Same with Cowherd, same with Rusillo and Kanell...so not surprised that on a network that is all about college football 10 months a year (I think from post-title in college football til NCAA Final Four it gets more basketball than football on that show, so maybe 2.5 months tops), you are going to get mostly Alabama, Auburn, LSU, UT, FL, UGA, etc. As Rhavvic said, if UK keeps winning they will keep on talking up UK more and more and taking more calls.

Its entertainment and nothing beats an uneducated Bama fan getting on air and yelling ROLL TIDE. If people with average intelligence got on air it would kill his show, its in Alabama for a reason.

You do realize that there are bad callers that aren't Auburn and Alabama fans, right?. In fact, you could make a case that the worst caller is Darryl from Columbus (GA), a UGA fan. He's the guy that predicts that UGA will always go undefeated and win every game by 30+. He has "quit" the show at least a dozen times.

How refreshing to know...I guess his position means no going through the xray ma bob thingy?

Paul's show is 3/4 sports, 1/4 Jerry Springer. Auburn's bowl loss last year produced my all-time favorite moment on his show.

No you can't, with fans like Phyllis and the old tree killer, no one comes close. How smart is it for a guy to call in to a tv show and admit he committed a crime, a retired lawman at that. No one comes close. If Darryl is really from Columbus good money says he is really an AU fan posing.

Not sure. Ran across this on a site. Had a couple black labs and a chocolate one so made it my avatar.

Charlotte, North Carolina is in Alabama? News to everyone else, but you I'd say there.

Finebaum is nothing more than a radio bloviating bluster-but that knows football history in Alabama. He is nearly clueless about half of the SEC and tries to hide that by catering to fans that live in Alabama. ESPN missed the mark with this show to a great extent by not realizing just how much bigger the entire SEC fan base is than Auburn and Bama. The SEC network is more a Bama network than Texas is the longhorn network.

He definitely does cater more to Alabama and Auburn fans. I understand, given his background, but I think it's unfortunate. There is a hell of a lot more to the SEC outside of those 2 programs. People think that he's an Alabama fan, but he isn't. He's a bandwagon fan. He was on the Auburn bandwagon in 2010, and before that, he ticked off Bama and Auburn fans because he was on the Florida bandwagon when they had that great run from 2005-2009. He made Urban and Tebow out to be Gods. Basically, if you win and go on a great run for a few years, he'll talk about you a lot. If LSU goes on to win 2 of the next 3 national titles, he will start trolling all the other SEC schools and praise LSU and Les Miles non-stop.

I'll be the first to admit that this show does not seem capable of talking about UGA without a huge dose of disrespect that is not appropriate.

I may be in the minority, but I think it'd be cool to have Matt Jones on the SEC Network. His football knowledge may not be the best, but I enjoy listening to him whenever he comes on Finebaum and have listened to a few KSR podcasts.

Really can't say it isn't deserved. Richt is a good man, he is a good coach for the most part, but its almost like he has ADD and loses focus a couple times a year and we lay an egg or two a year. With our last president, who only cared about athletics for the money it brought in, win 8-10 games a year, don't get UGA any bad publicity, ironic he was the reason Jim Harrick came to UGA, and all was fine. The new president is different, he has raised the football staff's salaries considerably, he made sure the AD got behind and indoor practice facility which is starting as soon as the season is over, there is probably going to be a little more pressure on Richt to do better than 8-10 wins. Our last coach averaged 8 wins, but lost to Tech 3 years in a row and was fired. We should have won the NC in 07, but we had 2 of those WTF games and didn't get to the SEC championship game. In 12 we were on the verge of getting to the game and blew the last drive by not spiking the ball at the 5 with time running out. Of course if we had scored it would have been a great gamble and people would have been talking about how gutsy it was.

Spoken like a UK basketball fan.

I can't agree. UGA may not deserved unwarranted accolades but they sure as heck deserve respect for a consistent high level with high level integrity. I value that even when it is an opponent that kicks our but on a regular basis.

The Finebaum Show has been on for over 20 years, For 18 of those years it was a AU/Alabama show. Many of the callers are put on everyday because they have been on the show for years and face it many people hate Alabama just like we are hated and the callers reinforce the Alabama hick persona. Sure we do not get much play during football season but we got a ton of play on his show last year during BB season. The day to day character callers are not paid.
