Ricky P rips his team a new…

Like the man or not but what I watched in that clip needs to be told to every walking creature in this country.
What Coach Pitino said to his players is about life and not just basketball.
Players will focus on the negatives but what separates winners from 2nd place is how winners will stay focused on what they have going for them, the positives.
We can all agree to disagree. For me, you can ask anyone about what the ills of society is and get all sorts of opinions.
For me, one of the things today that is hurting us as Americans is we become soft. We expect things and do not want to deal with adversity.

One can only dream if he had stayed at UK where things would be today.
Can’t fault the man for chasing his dream. We don’t fault players for being a OAD for chasing their dreams.

Look at Reed Shepard. He was a OAD by today’s standards.
He stays and becomes entrenched in UK lore. One day he could have ran for office and won in this state.
Rick was no different.
Love his speech.
Toughen up MFers; now lets go whip done butt!

Like him or not, this rant of his is true.

Looking back, while I admire the humanity and open nature of Coach Pope, his comment about waking up at three in the morning thinking he might not have Butler or Robinson is likely a statement he wished he hadn't said. One is the JINX thing that it happened, the other is how that might have resonated with other players.

Kind of a minor version of Stoops ante up so I can get better players.

Some time or another the guys that are there gotta know they have the ability to do this whoever hits the floor.

I'm like little Ricky. Gave me PTSD from my high school coach. He would start yelling and the spit coming out of his mouth would get caught and hang on his mustache. A lot of kids probably wouldn't react well in today's world but back in the day it sure made us try harder as we cursed him under our breath.

Just FYI:

Pope has talked about how he coached this way in the past. After all, he was coached by Pitino, so he knows how to turn on the intensity if needed. Over time, he realized he wasn't connecting with his players and changed his approach.

But by all accounts, he flipped that switch at halftime at Ole Miss, and it seemed to pay dividends the next few games.

Every coach is different.

People who think our team not playing defense like St. John's is because Pope is too nice are forgetting that we're extremely shorthanded, and we don't have much athleticism, especially in the back court at this point.

I have a feeling we'll have other teams in the future that are much more capable on that end.

Maybe best motivation coach I ever saw in college. 2nd best UK coach after Rupp. Sadly he wasn't here as long as he should of been hw even k ows that.

If he takes STJ to finally 4 where does he rank o. The coaches list?

Top 4 in whatever order - Rupp, Wooden, Knight, K.. would Pitino be 5? He doesn't surpass the first 4 imo but comes close to Knight imo..
