Pope has talked about how he coached this way in the past. After all, he was coached by Pitino, so he knows how to turn on the intensity if needed. Over time, he realized he wasn't connecting with his players and changed his approach.
But by all accounts, he flipped that switch at halftime at Ole Miss, and it seemed to pay dividends the next few games.
Every coach is different.
People who think our team not playing defense like St. John's is because Pope is too nice are forgetting that we're extremely shorthanded, and we don't have much athleticism, especially in the back court at this point.
I have a feeling we'll have other teams in the future that are much more capable on that end.
