Rick Barnes benched Chaz Lanier for not doing what he is “paid to do”

NIL should be per game no play no pay

I think it will get there. As programs/coaches get burned by guys not fulfilling their contracts, they will begin enact performance based criteria. This is an example and I have applaud Barnes for setting the trend (or trying to). If you don't play to your contract, in whatever way thet is, then you won't play. Chaz now kind of looks like an ass, and hes not going to get the total stat numbers that might help him get his next NIL "pay day".

Barnes did it today, some more coaches will do it tomorrow. Until hopefully the day comes where programs start going with a contract based system. And as long as other coaches follow suite, than the players won't have the leverage..

Cal didn't care what that kid was getting paid. He kept him on the bench the whole time. 🤣
IIRC, Sharp got a huge NIL deal with that Louisville Porsche dealer. Has that dealer been actively donating to our NIL since then?

To me, that's kind of a big deal. If the dealer gave that kid big money and Cal allowed him to sit and not play, I would not blame them for never kicking in again (until now, of course, since Cal is gone).

That kind of crap can cost us NIL and future recruits.

NIL is a two edged sword. When players get paid to play they lose the protection of being amateurs. Coaches are afraid to call them out because they will leave, that will slowly change. The media and the average fan are still caught up in these are just kids and insulated from criticism mindset. I think both perceptions will change over time. Why not be able to trade players during the season, we are only a short distance from that right now. Nil has taken the lid off a huge can of worms, there are no rules. Money ,accountability and criticism are(or should be) on the table. The only thing off the table is amateurism and anything attached or related to that status.

This is as good as UT has been in a while. Odds are against them getting someone better.
Absolutely agree. They had been to only one elite eight in school history before last year. Chances are the next coach won’t be nearly what Barnes is and has been for them.
