Rich Brooks says Stoops deserves a statue

Must be devastating for the remaining anti-Stoops and anti-Barnhart fans to hear this from Brooks. But I agree this suggestion is still a little premature. Stoops is fully deserving by virtue of being our winningest football coach, but I don't think you do this while the subject is still in the prime of his career.

I agree completely, couldn’t say it better. Let Coach keep on doing what he is doing. I bet he doesn’t want a statue yet either. Give him time, then he won’t be able to deny it. The best is yet to come!!!

Saban has one at BDS. Yes, I know, 7 national championships, but he’s still the active coach. And that statue had been there since 2016 at least.

Stoops has done a very good job here but also hard for me to say he’s done any better at the job than brooks did. It feels like they’re probably about the same. Stoops is the first guy to be able to utilize competitive facilities and adequate budget. That’s not to take away from him but brooks was doing the 6-8 wins trying to recruit with that pull-down video screen in nutter

This.

Bryant won a title. At Kentucky. In football. That deserves a statue.

I like Stoops and he has done well here. But a statue? I dunno.

Rupp doesn't have one. Bryant doesn't have one. And those guys have five titles between them.

Weird Rupp doesn't have one but Joe B. Does. Straight up bizarre.

If he continues on his current path, then, yes, he deserves a statue........and/or have his name plastered around facilities or something. He is changing the program. Before Stoops, the opinion on UK was that they were absolutely terrible going all the way back to the 50's. Brooks came along and the opinion was that UK had a terrible history but had a good run with Brooks.....then they went back to the dungeon after Brooks. If Stoops can win decently for 20+ yrs, then the opinion will be that UK was once terrible but now is respectable. Becoming a program changer deserves accolades.

Plenty of time for that. Barney's patience has paid off though. These are truly the best of times in UK football history.

I want one like the Unity statue in India. Stoops had the vision to take UK from celler dweller in the SEC east to a national contender. No other coach at Kentucky can hold a candle to him. Build it!

He does, after retirement. Statues are for living legends or important coaches to a school as a retirement gift. It would be weird to put one up now for him.

Were you alive when Bear Bryant coached here? Why would we build a statue for someone that left for greener pastures?
Because it’s part of the little history that we have. Must market anything that can help and it would help. Most probably don’t even know The Bear coached here, put up a statue, they will know. Imagine that being shown every game on ESPN? Get it now?

Somewhere in the past I heard a wise man say don't ever build statues of people while they're still alive. I'm certainly not anxious to see coach's demise but I'm in no hurry to see a statue of him either. Naming the field after C. M. Newton is probably one a lot of people would like to take back.

If we put up a Bear Bryant statue, we will be the laughing stock of the SEC. Trying to act like he was ours when all of his stuff happened at Alabama. Did he win here, sure, but he became the "Bear" at Alabama. We don't need to

I agree with Coach Brooks, but he deserves one too. Both Brooks & Stoops came into a shitty situation and both make UK Football competitive again.
just imagine if Stoops had been able to inherit the foundation Brooks built instead of the pile of rubble Joker left it in for him.

Help me out, as I can't visualize what following straight after Brooks would have had on the last 5 seasons of 10-3, 8-5, 5-6, 10-3, & 7-6. Thanks.

Absolutely

Not that anything similar off the field would happen here.....but go ask Penn State fans what can occur when you put up a statue of someone who's story isn't finished being told

UK has been the laughing stock of the SEC since Bryant left. For over a half a century we've been a laughing stock who has refused to promote their past.

Only recently have people given us a small amount of respect.

I am a big fan of Stoops, but who cares at all about a statue these days?

Brooks got 4 SEC wins once. Stoops has done it five times, with 5 SEC wins twice - the only two winning conference seasons since the 70s. Brooks peaked at the Music City Bowl, Stoops has two Citrus Bowl victories. Stoops got a lot of that stuff you're talking about built. He brought the plan, he brought the enthusiasm, he proved that it was worth investing in UK football.

Brooks legacy is beating #1 LSU in OT during the 2007 season. That was an amazing team.

I assume this poster means that Stoops would have had a chance at starting his career at UK with a much better team and the last five years could have looked like that in the first 5 years and thus the level would be even higher today.

ummm, We wouldn't have had 5 straight losing seasons, Stoops would have a much higher winning percentage, We would have been contending in the East much sooner. Joker's years set recruiting and the roster development back several years. We'd be on something like a 17 year bowl streak, Possibly all of that would have lead to us being a step or two beyond where we are now. Just my take from Section 205 of Kroger Field.
