Rex Chapman Sentenced to Probation, Community Service

Rex is still part of our UK family...but he's now that cousin who everyone hopes doesn't show up at the reunion because he's crazy and won't shut-up.

I'm one of the rare ones that doesn't get into all the negatives of our former players. This guy surely pushed that envelope, but rex is one of our greats and I still throw his name up when discussing our great former players. Why wouldn't I? It adds to our accomplishments and most outsiders have no idea about the issues.

A buddy I worked with in the early 80's took me to Rupp to see Apollo HS play in the Sweet 16. He told me I've never seen anything like it. The love the whole state had for Rex Chapman was incredible. I think he had 36 and could have had 50 if he had played the 4th quarter.

He was a great player and example that life is difficult for everyone regardless if you have money

So they are getting him for up to $25,000 in theft and all he gets is probation and community service? Seems our punishments are lacking these days. If it were a few hundred or maybe even a few thousand, I could see his punishment being adequate. That amount of theft should be jail time. Anything to keep him away from the program for good.

Chapman was one of my favorite UK players. I remember him trying to dunk over Pervis Ellison his freshman year (1987 I think). Pretty impressive to even try at Freedom Hall.
I hope he straightens his life out, we all make mistakes and opioids are so addictive that they can make you say and do some pretty stupid things.

I pretty much agree. He did some bad stuff during the tourney run by running his mouth off about Cal leaving that really had me upset at the time. But, he is still UK family and was a great player for UK. He's made mistakes and I just hope he can finally get his life straightened out and move on. I want him to stay away from the UK program until he can accomplish that but I'm willing to give him his chance.
