Reports: Mychal Mulder expected to sign with Kentucky.

Glad to have him aboard if this is true. Don't know if he will pan out or not of course but a shooter who is a good athlete coming from a traditionally strong JUCO program is generally a pretty good addition.

If we don't get another player besides Mulder, how do you guys think we will fare? I think, depending on the bracket in a down year, we would be a solid elite eight team.

This is great news if true. Mychal wont likely be a starter here ever, but if anyone tries to say that we don't need a kid who shoots 46% from three off the bench they're crazy. These are the kind of quality role players a championship team needs and I for one am excited at the possibility of having this kid commit.

Drew Franklin, over at KSR, said that Mulder attempted 190 3s last season, hitting at 46%, and that nobody in D1 shot better with 175 attempts or more. I know JUCO and D-1 are not the same, but that's still a nice stat.

Also, it says Mulder would have been a Shocker last fall, but his JUCO team had a policy prohibiting players from committing in the fall. Weird, but ok. Good for us.

Anyone know why Mulder did not start more games for his JuCo? Hard for me to believe he is going to have a huge impact or start gift UK if he didn't start for Vincinnes.

If Mulder can soot the 3-ball at 46%, he might not start, but I'd bet he would play 25 minutes a game. 46% is really shooting it, man.

Starting doesn't mean anything. There are players all over the country at every level of basketball that come off the bench and have a bigger impact than starters.

Agree there are examples of that, but I still find it hard to believe that an impact UK caliber player would not be starting in junior college.

I hope this guy is an solute stud, but if he is a great athlete and shooter there has to be some reason he was not starting. It's not like Vincennes had 8 or 9 other UK caliber players and they were platooning.

And by the way, he started 18 of 35 games. Don't know how many minutes he averaged because they don't have minutes on the stats for nearly every game, but the last two games he got 35 and 36 minutes. He led his team in scoring and shot attempts. He had a few games over 20 points and numerous games with 15 or more points coming off the bench. Obviously his role was as one of their go-to scorers. And after looking at the team's season stats, they had very little scoring coming off the bench, so it's obvious the coach wanted him to provide some bench scoring.

I read somewhere that their coach said that their team has 7 guys that will play division 1 ball so they're obviously stacked for a juco team. And yet despite only starting half of their games, he let them in scoring. So he must at least have a decent amount of scoring prowess, especially if Cal was willing to take a flyer on him

Also, in the rankings of the top JUCO players, he was 13th.

lol...I cant get past Silents' post in this thread...its mesmerizing. If there are any classic or witty posts after this one ...I'm sorry I haven't read them.

Seems like people would rather be pessimistic than optimistic. Do you all really believe Cal is going to recruit bad players? He was a JUCO 1st team All-American (and despite what you all may believe, kids of that caliber tend to be superb D1 players. He's crazy athletic, and shoots in very, very well. The biggest compliment that could be offered to him as well is that his coach said that he would run through a brick wall for his team. That's what we need to make next year's team a true team, and that in itself can carry UK a long way, nevermind the energy, and scoring ability that this kid can bring.
If you all want to try to find flaws in his game, and try to pick him apart like vultures, then by all means, go right ahead, but there's not a single thing that would tell me that this kid is a bad pickup.

And according to KSR he was a first-team JUCO All-American. But by all mean please keep being concerned about how not starting means he can't make any impact at Kentucky...

As for his defense, in his highlight reel, it shows multiple blocks/steals. Looks like he puts forth an effort on defense. Now guarding JUCO players is not the same as guarding top D-1 players, but he doesn't appear lazy in that area.

My comments in no way saying that I don't think Mulder could play some minutes, be a contributor, and have shooting ability to space the floor.

I also know that whether he started does not determine if he is a good or bad player.

All I am saying is have realistic expectations. This guy will be a role player / contributor. IMO, he will not be an "absolute stud" game changing recruit. My point is that if he was a game changing type player he probably would have started more than half the games for his JuCo team.

One more comment, no if we get Brown we are talking about an absolute stud game changer. Physically ready to dominate at college level now.
