You can thank Mitch Barnhart. Any AD who is serious about a football program would never have made that hire.

Luckily, me and other UK fans boycotted the whole program and stopped going to games to hurt Mitch where it counts, in the wallet. If it wasn't for UK fans boycotting games the last season of Joker, a coach like Stoops would never have been hired. It was all about money. Don't kid yourself.

We, the fans, demanded better and we finally got it.

This ^ . . . once again, the guy didn't succeed as coach but it wasn't because he hated you or this program. He did his best and it didn't work out. Stop taking it personal. And to forget that they guy was one of the best WR to play at UK is wrong too. Grow up and get off his back.

I have no ill will towards Joker and agree that UK fans should cut Joker some slack. Joker left UK as a multi millionaire so I'd say he's set for life and it's time to move on and see that the future's bright for the UK program. Joker and the UK football team are both fine.

The bad part of it is, most people knew it was a terrible decision to hand the keys to a primed sec program to joker. Barnhart was warned by several that he couldn't recruit here. He knew it. And like barnfart always does, he hired him anyway for the optics.

This is the world we are living in.

If it were up to me, after trying to retain smith, hiring Gillispie all on your own, giving the keys to joker, and having to be removed from negotiations on Calipari, Barnhart would be gonzo. He is the luckiest athletic director in the country. Cal worked out (not his control) and he lucked up so far with a decent coaching hire. I understand brooks bought him time, but we should have a competent athletic director, and we don't.

Barnhart will unfortunately be around forever due to the success of Cal and Stoops. Its a shame since UK essentially went over his head to hire Cal and Stoops basically hired himself (wasn't on Barnharts list)

Barnhart also passed on Sean Payton as our head coach before hiring Brooks.

UK did not go over Mitch's head regarding Cal. That is fantasy. Dr. Todd was hesitant about hiring Cal. It took Cal making a lengthy presentation to Dr. Todd that he was hired. Mark Stoops did indeed make a presentation to become our coach. While there were several coaches interested in the football position, our lack of facilities, recruiting and history were deterrents in hiring a top level coach. It was an agreement by our administration to perform all of Mark's requests of stadium renovation (mainly recruiting room), new football training facility etc that his position as head coach was approved.

The Cal hire has taken on a life of it's own full of fairy tales to support people's anti-Mitch agenda because he said the truth regarding the microwave society...because it absolutely is nowadays. Probably shouldn't have said it, but it doesn't make it any less true.

I have this image of Stoops bursting in to Mitchs office. Secretary following behind him. "I'm sorry Mr Barnhart, I told him not to come in, but he just wouldn't listen". Stoops tips his fedora. "Mr Barnhart, if I could just have a moment of your time." And then goes into a sales pitch. These idiot critics think getting a job involves acting like a door to door vacuum salesman from a bugs bunny cartoon.
