And going too early costs him a second/third etc. nba contract?
It's effing 45 million dollars. Dude wasn't gonna magically improve his deficiencies playing at an inferior atmosphere with less practice time against less talented players.

This is the whole case in a nutshell, he did what he had to do. He was/would have been a much better college player than he ever will be as a pro. Get the money while you canTrue, he should be set financially, but he wasn't ready for the pro game
Another year of college where he only shoots 37% from three and he wouldn’t get drafted. He absolutely made the right choice. He could live on interest from his rookie deal FOR LIFE. Hell, for his children’s lives.Got a ton of money but he was not ready for the league. His parents really should have known this! Another year of college playing under Pope (who Jeff played with) would have been helpful. Now he is playing in the G league and may well get recruited over

I think it’s a good move, he needs minutes and they aren’t giving him any as they are too good. They aren’t ahead of schedule. It’s gonna take a couple years if they stick with him to get him some time.
OT but love you profile pic. I just watched Point Break the other night. I love that movie. At least he can play. I don’t know why Houston drafted him if they didn’t need him. But for those saying he should’ve stayed, I mean, yeah as a fan it would’ve been awesome but a kid from North Laurel High School was going to be a top three pick in the NBA Draft.
Not a single one of us would’ve passed on that.
But he will in the G league? I hope the young man saves every penny of that. I'm just saying that sometimes another year or two at the collegiate level where they can mature physically and especially mentally, may pay off in a longer and even more lucrative career. It's effing 45 million dollars. It’s better than riding the bench full time, yes. He has a contract. He’s getting paid NBA money regardless. Better to actually get on the court. So now, the G league is a good thing. Got it.
He made the best financial decision for the circumstances. He will be fine?
Pj Washington wouldn’t have gotten drafted if he left after his 1st year. It was the obvious choice to come back.Every player and situation is different. If a player is definitely going in the 1st round but probably 20th or higher it would make sense to come back if he had a great chance to move up. PJ Washington being an example. Late 1st round can be dicey. See Keldon Johnson. Pretty sure he never thought he would fall out of the 1st round but he almost did. If you're like Reed you had to go. I don't think Pope will have players with one foot out the door coming to UK. At least I hope not.
He’s got 3 years. If he can’t prove it by then he was probably never sticking around. And going too early costs him a second/third etc. nba contract?
Risking a lot of money to maybe not get beaten disappointingly again in the tournament? Yeah, I’d say that’s silly. He was drafted higher than he ever would have been coming back. He made more money, at least initially, and probably overall, than he could ever catch up with after another year, especially as he was truly over-valued in a weak draft.
But here's the thing: How much will it matter to him when he's 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 that his lasting image as a Kentucky Wildcat is of being totally outplayed by a Horizon League stiff, looking scared and intimidated, and bowing out in one of the worst losses in Kentucky Basketball History?
Assuming he is going to have all the money anyone could ever spend from playing basketball, is the difference between lifetime earnings of $50 million and $60 million enough to compensate for taking another shot at feeling good about his legacy as a Wildcat?
Some will laugh and say that'll never cross his mind. I disagree, given his background, his family legacy and what was clearly his love of the Kentucky basketball program.
It was a future's contract. At least he can play. I don’t know why Houston drafted him if they didn’t need him. But for those saying he should’ve stayed, I mean, yeah as a fan it would’ve been awesome but a kid from North Laurel High School was going to be a top three pick in the NBA Draft.

I wanted him in Denver or Boston or team that knows what they are doingAgree 100%. Was hoping he would go to the Spurs and learn from Chris Paul. Run the pick and roll with Wemby. Udoka puts a lot of emphasis on defense and Reed isn’t a good on-ball defender, at least not yet.
That whole draft class was terrible.demotions are not a good thing , he had to go but gonna have to plays on the mall stage for a while . He will b]never be a star in the league , more like a 2nd round pick .

Did it help the Harrisons to come back to school? Sometimes guys just are what they are. Any physical maturing he can do at UK he can do better inside an NBA organization. He was 3rd pick, the Rockets are going to give him every resource he needs to improve. Much more than he would have gotten with another year here. But he will in the G league? I hope the young man saves every penny of that. I'm just saying that sometimes another year or two at the collegiate level where they can mature physically and especially mentally, may pay off in a longer and even more lucrative career.
No second contract was guaranteed no matter how many years he played here. Truth is he's somewhat limited physically and returning for a second year doesn't change that. To whatever extent he came improve things like his quickness, he can do it under the supervision of world class trainers at the NBA level more so than he ever could at UK.And going too early costs him a second/third etc. nba contract?
After 15 years of one and done guys, many UK fans still don't understand the whole dynamic behind the draft, why guys leave early, and why teams draft potential.Exactly why he made the right choice. He was never getting that high ever again. I cant believe some uk fans (not you necessarily) still claim he made a mistake.
He wouldn’t have played at either.I wanted him in Denver or Boston or team that knows what they are doing
Absolutely made the right decision. There’s been several NBA all-stars that started out in the G-League.So now, the G league is a good thing. Got it.
He made the best financial decision for the circumstances. He will be fine?
What if he has a 4 year career, but he would have played 12 with biggecontracts? Not being ready for the league and not being ready for the draft are two completely different things. He was right to leave when he did. Last year's draft was incredibly weak and he wouldn't have been drafted any higher in this year's draft even if he improved his game. Plus, now basketball is his full time job. There's nothing he would have learned with another year at UK that he can't learn while getting paid millions of dollars in the NBA, even if he spends some time in the G League.
Then he’s lucky he got drafted this year and became the 3rd pick. There’s no guarantee he would’ve developed faster at Kentucky than he will in the NBA G-League. No matter how you slice it, dude is a multimillionaireWh
What if he has a 4 year career, but he would have played 12 with biggecontracts?
ts?
Stop it. NIL can't touch what a 3rd overall pick makes.
Not to mention the NIL money shep would have gotten too . Appears to be a bad decision we shall see . Nice post
Yes but he would actually get developed, at Houston he is playing and won’t get help delevoping his game.He wouldn’t have played at either.
Maybe if ncaa is allowing pro European and Israeli players to play in college Reed could come face for a year or two. He already has the money and he could learn as much here as the G leagueAnother year at Kentucky might have too but that’s water under the bridge I guess.
But he will in the G league? I hope the young man saves every penny of that. I'm just saying that sometimes another year or two at the collegiate level where they can mature physically and especially mentally, may pay off in a longer and even more lucrative career.
One that is best friends with the new head coach at your Alma Mater with a record NIL sitting on the tableHad he returned and slipped from 3rd to 10th it would have cost him roughly 13 million dollars. What parent here would tell their kid to take that kind of risk?
I wanted to see Reed come back this year as well but he would have lost millions by doing so his draft stock had no place to go but downAnother year at Kentucky might have too but that’s water under the bridge I guess.
But then again he’d have never gotten a higher draft slotGot a ton of money but he was not ready for the league. His parents really should have known this!
