Reds

Don’t mind the Spiers move. Rewarding him for a strong Spring, but feel it’s just temporary until Abbott gets up to speed.

Dunn, Hurtubise, Fairchild

Choose 2
Dunn needs a legitimate shot at the MLB level. Plus speed and decent pop. The 2023 season he had in the minors was outstanding, hitting over 20 HRs, over .300 and 79 RBIs along with 54 steals. Would give the Reds a little bit of everything off the bench. I'm done with Fairchild, but that doesn't mean anything. I hope they do not use him being out of options as an excuse to make the Opening Day roster. He is what he is at this point. A defensive specialist who hustles, but not a threat at the plate. Makes some really bad mistakes on the base paths too. Dunn has had a great spring hitting .340 with a couple of HRs. Hurtubise has played well in ST. 5 steals and can make the highlight reel plays on defense. I see no reason why they hold onto Fairchild. Outright him to Louisville with Benson and hold them for depth in case of injuries. I heard JH give an interview saying he was playing catchup after injuries while he was called up last year. I will give him the benefit of the doubt there for his next chance to prove himself whenever he does get the call.

I agree with this. There is zero reason Fairchild is on the roster ever again. He is a career minor leaguer that you call up when you have multiple injuries. He his like .120 in the spring and has done nothing to deserve a spot. Give the other guys a shot. We need some fresh blood.

Totally agree that Fairchilds time should be over. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Hurtubise but he deserves a chance. And if he can’t get it done, maybe Benson or Hinds figure out how to not K every other at bat

Schedule quirks:
- Play SF 6 of first 12 games & then no more.
- Do not play an in-division team from June 23 thru August 3 - 6+ weeks.

Trying to set up a 2 games trip to Pitt in May, meeting a friend & Pitt fan who lives near DC. It's the best park I've ever been to. Dodger Stadium is great too.

4 relievers with closing experience on the roster and Gibaut who has barely pitched since 2023 is the one who gets the save opportunity. Not the least bit surprised he blew it. Blew 6 out of 9 opportunities in '23. 4 for 13 in save chances throughout his career.

I hate to question decisions in game one but I do not understand that decision at all. Just baffling

I forgot to factor in Diaz even as volatile as he is, 5th option with closing experience for this team when he comes back. I would never use Gibaut in a high leverage situation again. Blowing 10 saves while converting 4 is enough for me to not see him in this role. He was a workhorse in middle relief back in 2023, and Bell used him up like rented mule. Same with Buck Farmer. I did not watch the postgame. Immediately turned it to the Sweet 16 coverage after the game. Did anyone ask Francona why Gibaut was used in the 9th inning? Rogers would have been my choice after using Barlow earlier in the game.

It's one thing to use him as your close in a 1 run game in the 9th, but its a whole other thing entirely to leave him in after 3 of the first 5 batters reach base and they tie the game. And you let him in and he gives up a 3 run homer. It was David Bell shit all over again. I thought we hired a manager that wasn't ignorant. But after today Francona's new name is Tito Bell. That was an absolutely pathetic managerial debut.

Poor Hunter Greene.

It was only one game (which was a kick in the nuts loss), but for my money, thought Santillan looked like the best reliever the Reds used yesterday.

Francona said a few days ago “Santillan is the easy choice for closer”

And then puts him in to face the bottom of the order. Wouldn’t think Tito would get flustered but seemed the whole plan went out the window. Dumb

Bell was the worst ever w/ pitchers....until yesterday's fubar. Newsflash....relief pitchers can go longer than 1 inning, especially when they cruise thru the first one.
