When Shepard is your 4th best guard your backcourt is elite.
Tre Mitchell seems like a nice young man. Was beaming in the post game interview.
Dilly has a lightning quick release.
While Edwards had an off game he still did some nice stuff. Nine boards, 4ast and 2stl.
DJ is THAT GUY
We have some dudes even when missing 14ft of rim running and shot blocking.

It was the first game together after 2 weeks practice. Germany has been playing together for a while. I was half expecting a loss. I thought we looked talented but jittery. I see lots of potential.
Yeah I was worried about that a bit when it got knotted up in the 2nd qtr. And then a bit in the third when Germany just couldn't miss. That Delow is a freaking machine.

Things I'm not worried about: 1. Edwards eventually proving he's an elite talent. 2. Sheppard hitting a good percentage of open shots. 3. Ugo being a major factor as a paint defender and rim protector. 4. Bradshaw being a major D-1 talent on both ends.
1000% correct. After Ugo and Bradshaw get back the team will look like this.

Happy with the style of play, happy with pressing team. DJ, Shep, Adou, Mitchell were fun to watch. 23 (burkes) has a ton of growing to do. He was grabbing left and right. Edwards looks like MKG (shot was way off). Hope just an off game. Dilly quick fast and in a hurry too much but will get better. Battled which is a good sign.

Wagner- Stud........ Thrilled to have him.

Dill- you can see the potential........he's going to win us some games but his shooting and turnovers will lose us some games too

Edwards- had a bad off game offensively... but he did all the other things to win.

Reeves- the same Reeves that we saw the last month of last season... saved our bacon.

Therio....... i mean Thiero- seems to be improving. one of our hardest workers.

Reed......... I pray he shoots better than today......

Mitchell........... that 3pt shooting will absolutely make our offense that much better by opening up the court..... thank you Huggins for being a trainwreck lately.

Overall I really like what I saw from the team for being without a center... When Bradshaw comes back........ and if he plays.... its all going to be on Cal..... the team has the makings of an elite squad. which cal shows up this year, the Legend or the one from the past few years?

You’re report makes no sense and seems to point out only negatives

Reed missed a lot but he did the little things and that matters in games

Reeves didn’t save us, Kentucky was in control for most of the game

Dillinngham had 0 turnovers so not sure what you’re talking about… DJ had 5

UK was in control from the start of the 2nd half because of REEVES right?

seem to only point out negatives? My wagner , reeves, theiro, and Mitchell were positive........ Edwards was half and half... bad offense is negative but doing the rest to win was positive ....... you had to have a stroke every few seconds of reading my post to say point out only negatives.

Upon seeing the press implemented on the defensive end , immediately I smiled. Memphis 2008 popped in my mind!.. It was refreshing..
Optimistic for the season... Guard play is Elite! .. The growth of Theiro !!!
Will a big addition be forthcoming ??? (Not Cyril)

Yeah, I agree with you. I only got to post quickly earlier. We had some jitters, no doubt, and we had some struggles with chemistry and communication, which isn't surprising at all considering these guys have been together as a unit for such a short time.

Things that I'm very encouraged about...
1. Thiero appears ready to take the next step.
2. Reeves picked up where he left off and looked even more confident.
3. Mitchell making threes is key for the team. He shot it well today.
4. DJ Wagner appears to be legit. He made some bad passes and got himself in trouble a few times, but the positives outweighed the negatives by far.
5. I really like Reed Sheppard. His defense was very good. He didn't make shots today but still found ways to contribute, though he didn't start. I noticed Cal put him back in the game late. He's strong with the ball and very steady.

It was a good game for a young team. The 2 veterans (plus Thiero) are just enough to help the young guys get their legs at this level. They may not win this challenge but I am encouraged by what I've seen. 👍

Reed is very fundamentally sound, with a high IQ. He is much quicker above the waist than below it. His hands and anticipation are incredible. His foot speed and lateral quickness defense are certainly adequate, but represent the weakest part of his overall game. He is a very good player. Repeating: his hands are incredible !!

I like the roster that we have. I would like to add one more proven big though. I don't know if Dante is a possibility, but it would be a nice luxury to have.

Reed basketball IQ and instincts are off the charts, I’ve seen him play three games and he damn near anticipates every pass on D.

My random thoughts on today are a mix of good and bad…
1. Ugo sprains an ankle…wearing a walking boot…announcer says multiple times he’s out the same as Bradshaw.
1A. Announcers for all these kind of tournaments are just awful.
2. The addition of Tre, along with Antonio returning, is an absolute godsend for this team because of experience alone.
3. Adou reminds me so much of Darius Miller…nothing particular that he’s great at, but he’s good. Just has a basketball IQ that’s better than most. He’s gonna be fun to watch.
4. This team we played is the equivalent of a OOC December home game, so I’m not ready to jump up and down yet.
5. We’ve got 11 scholarships…2 injured…took 9, and still had one not play a second. How does Hart not get any run in this kind of game? I’ve seen this movie several times before.
6. It’ll be interesting to see what the lineups look like come November, and how Cal pairs them down to his normal 7/8 by SEC play.

Not aeen it mentioned, but I thought Reeves played very solid defensively today. He looked MUCH better than last year. I would say he was actually a + defender today.

All the frosh were hunting shots one on one minus Reed. He had a very nice run sharing and defending in the middle of the game when we got a nice lead. I also noticed when the other freshman got beat on defense, they would just turn around and watch. We've seen that kind of mentality before so a shot blocker in the back end is essential.

If I had to be disappointed I guess it would be with Edwards. Although he grabbed 9 boards, he never seemed to get into the flow of the game offensively despite starting. Hopefully he gets the jitters out of the way for tomorrow's game.

Happy to see the upperclassmen and Thiero shine. Don't leave Mitchell open SEC because you will get burned. Incredible that we can outrebound a taller German team for the majority of the game. Do it again to get another win.

Obviously better basketball skills as a team than we have had in a while.Everybody out there today looked like they belong at UK, something I haven't been able to say in a While. Injuries are the key to this season IMO.

💯... Reed will/should play quality minutes this season!! His all around game /basketball IQ will be a blessing come SEC conference play imo.

I hope one of these teams will get tough in our face defensively to really let us see which players will fight through it... because pretty much every top 100 team and for sure every SEC team will play us rough daring refs to call fouls...

When fully healthy this team 1-9 will be Cals 3rd most talented behind only 12 and 15.

Just ff to the FF already.
