So say we DO have a chrome out like Matt Jones thinks. In thst case it is likely that the University provides the shirts for the fans to wear. Is anyone else not looking forward to the "blue is our color" people who will ruin how awesome commonwealth would look full of chrome-like shirts? I was pretty frustrated by the blackout. Mainly because everyone there knew it was going to be a blackout and everyone there owns a black shirt, yet many still wore their blue.

If you support the program, you do what the players, coaches, and administration want. I just ask for those of you who believe wearing anything other than blue is a sin, to do what will make the night special, whatever it may be! Thanks!

The blackout against SC last year was great. You will never have 100% participation no matter what school is doing it. Especially if it is a cool night and people are wearing jackets. I was impressed with the way it looked when I watched the game when I got home. I believe the coaches and players had nothing but good things to say as well. Time to stop complaining about the fans.

Im talking shirts that are given to us for free on a fairly mild night. The USC game could have had alot better cooperation than it did. Its time for the fans to stop complaining about everything in the program before the fans stop complaining about the fans. If you cant cooperate with simple things as wearing a certain color, then youre more stubborn than a big fan. Thats just that.

I was more or less giving them a hard time than actually bashing them. They will prbably admit they are stubborn as well.

I'll wear what they give me or what I already have. If that doesn't suit anyone, they can do whatever. I bought the tickets just like FL fans. I'm not anyone's slave.

Im sure you have a black shirt for a black out, a white shirt for a white out, or obviously blue. If its a chrome out that will be up the University. But my point is, its not as hard as some make it seem ;)[cheers]

Has the University called it a Chrome Out or is that just Matt Jones speaking? You do realize he is not the voice of the University, right? Not sure I have seen too many chrome shirts for any program floating around in circulation.

WTF? Do you really think they will buy & distribute 60,000 chrome colored UK shirts by Sat afternoon/evening?

Is it possible that this was already planned? Yes sir. Im going of what Matt Jones is hearing and putting out. May not be the most reliable thing ever but no matter what it is, everyone should participate.

White outs, black outs, chrome outs, whatever, are just silly. The disdain that many people have for them has nothing to do with being stubborn or unwilling to accept anything other than blue. It has everything to do with the belief that a gimmick and a cheap T-shirt isn't necessary to get most fans fired up about a big game.

So you are complaining about fans but at the same time wanting the university to buy you a shirt? Well, alright.

I'll wear what they want me to wear. I think it's cool to do this. If he helps motivate the players, I'll go naked and scare all the opposing fans off.

To answer the question, and maybe I am an old, cheap fart but if they are giving me a free shirt and have relieved the additional expense, yes I will wear it.

I'll make anyone that wants me to buy a new shirt for every home game a deal. I'll trade you a game program from the 90's that I used to buy as collectors items and trade them for a shirt/sweatshirt. I bought those things every game and they are now sitting in my closet basically because I haven't burned them. Whoever cleans up for me after I die will have a great time throwing them away.

These promotions are not "to get fans fired up". It's to get the players and recruits FIRED UP!!! They are the ones that LOVE these things.

So when people complain about these promotions, they are actually HARMING our football program.

If you want to HELP our football program, you will participate!!

Problem is, my fat ass will not fit into the "free" shirts they give out for "whatever out" they try to do. So unless I know in advance I'm wearing blue.

How do you make a chrome t shirt? I personally feel like a chrome shirt would be extremely uncomfortable and stuff. But yet very shiny and pretty.

Nobody other than people ITT have mentioned a "chrome out". Simply that they have been wearing chrome helmets and will wear them at the game.

What you may see is new " chrome unis" which have chrome lettering, lines, numbers, etc... They used similar for basketball last year.

It could be with black, blue, or white scheme's using a whatever out to get everyone wearing the same color.

Many fans including me wear the same clothes to every game because of superstitions or its their lucky shirt...think how many more losses we would have if not for those shirts, hats, etc....

Not silly at all, and I'm 45. Last year's SC game was rockin' and I think the "black out" had a little bit to do with it. It just gives a different "feel" to the game in a positive way. JMO

By the way here is a little clip from the blackout last year. Definitely not all black, but still looks great to me.

Motivate the players? Trying to beat a team that Kentucky hasn't beaten in years should be motivating enough for the players.

Re: the losing streak. Stoops said he wasn't even going to mention it. I'm sure the players will read about it and should be motivated to break it, but you can't have enough motivation.

I heard they were going to hand our tin foil to everyone as they walk in to wrap themselves in.
As an old school guy, I think all these "outs" are way too gimmicky. Just show up and yell. Nowdays it's all about the hype and we try way too hard to manufacture hype and force it instead of just letting the game be the hype - Like it used to be . . . that ought to get them:)

I know many of you have probably seen the Tennessee checkerboard stadium. I will not post a picture of it because I cannot stand seeing that much orange, but I did attend the UT/Florida game last year (got free tickets) and it was the first time they did the checkerboard. They didn't pass out t-shirts. They simply created a website to let fans know what color their section was. It worked extremely well. It had fans (which are always pumped for the UF game anyway) even more pumped to see Neyland's stands checkerboarded. It had even more people wanting to go to the game to be a part of it. The fans were more excited because of this, even I was anxious to see how it would turn out. I am sure the players were pumped to see the stands checkerboarded as well.

If nothing else I think these "gimmicks" (as the critics like to call them) make the game that much more exciting. It gives it just a touch more of a special feel and that touch can add even more electricity into the air come game time. Fans feel that, players feel that, recruits feel that, and it can only help your program. I don't think the promotions are really necessary in college football, but I think they can add to the experience.
