With NIL$$$ and portal, it seems to me that mega-parity now abounds, with no really great teams, but a big bunch that are slightly above-average and can be defeated by average teams on any given night. Game in, game out, I just do not see any stand-out, NBA-type, players that really elevate their teams to elite levels of play, although Cooper Flagg is probably one. March will be true madness this year, I think. Does anybody see any GREAT teams ??

I agree somewhat, but there still seems to be one or two teams that stand out even in this era. UConn last season was head and shoulders above everyone else and Purdue was above most everyone else besides UConn.

This year, Auburn stands out to me.

I think there will still be dominant teams in the NIL era, but it won’t be because of superior NBA level talent. It’s going to be teams with experienced veterans leading the way.

Those teams might have a OAD guy on their roster, but he won’t be the reason they are dominant. Auburn has Pettiford, who is as good as any Freshman not named Cooper Flagg, but it’s the older guys that are leading the way. Same for UConn last year. Castle was a really good Freshman, but it was Clingan and the other upperclassmen that made that team great.

We will see how this trends, but it looks like right now the teams that stand out are the teams with veterans that have been with the same coach for 3-4 seasons.

No matter if we like it or we don't like it Flagg is that type of talent. I don't think one player can carry a team to a championship in today's game for the very reason the OP states. There are enough good players around that any of 10 or so teams could get hot for a 6 game "season" and win it all.
If you get a high seed and end up in a busted bracket after the first weekend it comes down to a 3 or 4 game season

Auburn does look very good at this point. Honestly I have doubts that we can shoot the 3 well enough over a 3 or 4 game span in order to win it all. I think 2 of the final 4 will come out of the SEC, multiple SEC teams could end up playing each other 3 or 4 times this season

We catch an easy path with teams that want to run and gun and we could go deep. Run into a bunch of ultra physical defensive oriented teams and it could be over way too soon. All about the draw.
