Put us out of our misery

Anyone who says fire stoops is wasting their time. I keep saying this, but Mitch wasn’t gonna pay 30 mil to fire Cal who he didn’t even like. You really think he’s gonna pay 45 mil to fire stoops, who he likes?

I can see a world where stoops finds a job that he finds attractive to rebuild a program. I can see a world where he just walks away and continues to draw from his bourbon business. But I can also see a world where he comes back and tries to rebound from a bad year. None of us have any idea. We all just want to see the cats win

But I don’t see a world where Mitch eats that much money to fire the winningest coach in our history.

I agree Stoops is not getting fired. Which is why I'm hoping a school, like Iowa, scoops him up. He doesn't wanna be here anymore. It's obvious he hates how UK's NIL is sat up. Or maybe he's just done with coaching, due to the new rules. Like UVA's Bennett.

His brother retired early. I can see him doing the same. We really just don’t know. It’s a sad state of affairs right now.

Basketball has extremely high expectations and he didn't buy out calipari.

Football has little to no expectations so he won't buy out Stoops.

Not sure what goes on over at deNutter, but I feel sorry for the fanbase, they get toyed with, and gaslighted week to week.

He is tired of the whole thing. He does not have the want to coach this team and really has not all year. He could care less if we win or lose. We will be Murray and that is all. Auburn will come in and win easily. Tennessee will treat us like we will treat Murray. Texas will treat it as a another bye weak on defense. Offense will have to get ready for us but no much to worry about. Finally Louisville. They will score enough to beat us this year. 4 and 8 is a complete and total failure and system shutdown. I would say we will lose our recruiting class off this and some of the players as well. Stoops has a choice after the year. Stay with an unhappy fan base, retire, move on. I bet he keeps on keeping on being the 9th highest paid coach in college football. Why leave a 9mil a year job? I did not watch tonight, watched UGA beat Texas. I knew we were going to lose, just that gut feeling. Glad I missed it. I did see Browns Kick Off TD. Good for him. Rest was (I am guessing) not worth the watch of the highlights.

Cal has value because he can atleast recruit. Stoops has none. He's a DC playing pretend HC.
The hope is that an Auburn, Wisconsin, Iowa or Iowa state type program that has washed up football school rep but is struggling worse than we have the last 5-10 years takes him and views it as “getting tk Kentuckys las 10 year average” as step 1. And the. They think bc they are a “football school and UK is a basketball school” that they can propel him to the next level. Not realizing our football fan base and facilities is top 25. Or he takes a pro DC job

My thoughts exactly. He needs a big ten style team. Where he can ball control it up there. Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern, etc.

Operation save AD Strickland’s job at Florida, and the 26 million dollar Napier buyout was accomplished… nuff said.

Oh so we should just sit around and put our hope and faith in Stoops? You just won’t let go, will ya?

Stoops ain’t rebuilding nothing. He hasn’t built nothing here either. We are a total joke in the eyes of all fans and media around the nation.

I’m gonna stay right here posting everyday about his sorry ass should be fired until fans get smart and quit buying tickets and they’re forced to do something or he can’t take the pressure anymore and leaves.

Why does Barnhart continually put us in these lose-lose positions where we can't get rid of bad coaches? Barnhart is the problem.
Barnhart’s a CEO who’s only purpose is to bring in revenue, he knows enough about our history and understand that winning seven games a year and going to the Belk Bowl is enough to appease most fans and keep bringing in the money; he’s willing to pay Stoops $9m/year to accomplish that. Some people are going to jump on here and scream about the ten win seasons which I’m not downplaying but overall our record with him is 77-69 overall and 36-55 in the SEC. Now in his 13th season we’ve only won more than seven games three times and the eight win season was without a true QB. It wasn’t that hard to win seven games in the past with our three cupcakes, UL being down, and being in the East with Vandy, SC, and UF having a down spiral. Also having MSt as our common west opponent helped. All of that’s over now that we don’t have divisions, SC and Vandy are seeing an uptick, and UF will eventually get on a roll with their top 10 talent.

Fans screaming and being upset that we’re losing these games fail to realize we’re basically a .500 team and a .350 team in the conference under Stoops and it’s going to get worse. Six wins from here on out is what we’re looking at with an occasional seven during a good season. When that happens and fans see it that’s when they’ll stop slinging money into the program which will force Barnhart’s hand; fans will get excited after a new hire but we won’t be much better if any better at all. It’s UK football, always had been and always will be.

Excellent post. Probability of success in the SEC is even less now with expansion. Unfortunately ...

I this is spot on. I used to drink all the Big Blue Kool-Aid with Stoops. Now, I have finally realized what is the truth, especially with Stoops. I don’t care as much anymore and sad to say… I’m apathetic when comes to our football team anymore. We are only slightly better than when Joker was the coach.
Key word that is growing in BBN, based on facing reality .... apathy.

Stoops situation is similar to Cal's, and it's time to go. Looking at our season it's hard to imagine anyone outside of a smaller school wanting to hire him.

We really need a Cal situation.

Something nobody saw coming, but the stars aligned for us on that one. Cal needed a change; we needed a change. He wasn't going to quit nor was he going to be fired.

Coaching carousel season delivered a little keyhole of opportunity for everyone to get out and restart without too much drama.

We have the football version of that scenario going on now. CMS has maxed out. He knows, UK brass knows it, fans know. We all appreciate the good things he did, but we're sliding back, and before it gets real ugly some folks need to make some decisions. It's just an opportunity has to present itself to allow them to make said decision.

Stoops just isn't going to quit cold turkey. Too much money on the line. UK brass isn't just going to fire him, again, too much money.

So, what we need is a little back door for all to escape through.

I don't know what the football version of Arkansas scenario playing out is. I just think we all need to be on the lookout for it.

Yeah but they are about to have their worst record in history.
FSU posted an 0-11 mark back in the 70's, so it won't be their worst record. Also, FSU sued the ACC to get out of the conference, ostensibly because they don't like what they see regarding revenue compared to the Big 2. They don't have the kind of money to make a coaching change anytime soon. They aren't Texas, Texas A&M or Michigan, or Alabama. If FSU were to fire Norvell at the end of this season it would cost them bout $64 Million. They are stuck with him for at least a couple more years.

Yeah not sure FSU is football’s Arkansas. First, as has been established, that buyout is wild.

Secondly, not sure they would fire a guy who was on a really good playoff sniffing track, just to hire Mark Stoops.

Same for the potential of Ferentz retiring and maybe looking to Stoops. Have had this discussion in other threads.

If you’re Iowa, a perennial top 20ish program, is CMS your guy? Especially for that price tag.

I’m not certain. Not with how the landscape is changing. What does he bring to that program that they don’t have?

He won’t be able to keep up with that conference offensively any better than this one. I mean you got IU hanging basketball scores on people.

That’s all a long winded way of saying, I think we’re looking in the wrong direction in terms of programs for CMS.

To reinforce the similarity to Cal situation and resolution. We got to be thinking more lateral move if not step down. Middle tier program with some good support, big pockets willing to spend to steal a guy away who’s accustomed to making big time money.

You can do whatever you want and say whatever you want but it won’t make a difference. I’m just telling you how it is.

I think Stoops already knows his time at UK is over... it's why he's been looking for another job the last two seasons.

As long as Mitch doesn't throw more money at him. I do think Stoops will look elsewhere this off season and do the University a favor.

Someone mentioned North Western. I could see NW being interested in Stoops. In spite of Stoop's poor SEC record, there is a perception that he elevated UK football. NW might feel that Stoops could elevate their program.

NOBODY is taking this guy after this season. Stoops either retires or we suck again next year.

Texas A&M literally had him signed until their fans revolted. (Fans are smart)

But don't think for a second he wouldn't get an offer outside of the SEC for big time money. He's still perceived as a coach who can bring a program out of the cellar.

I agree with most of your post with the exception of two things. Barnhart is not a CEO. He is the athletic administrator, and yes revenue is part of that, but his job is also to put the athletic programs in a place to win as much as possible. If he was a CEO, he would have been shitcanned years ago for putting the department in one sided contract(s) and paying an inordinate amount of money for a sub-par products or services. He's rather pay obscene salaries and accept mediocrity and continued failure than to have to hire and fire anyone. NO other SEC team accepts that, and neither should we. They will hire and fire until they get the right guy. My second issue with your take (and many others on here) is this Eeyore take that continually uses our past as an excuse for failure today and tomorrow. I simply can't accept that. You get what you demand out of life. If we can have a successful basketball program and win national championships, you can do the same in football. Paying a top 10 D1 football salary while expecting this little is madness.
