Publicly giving Cal credit. I got it wrong.

I’m stoked that we won, but let’s pump the brakes on heaping too much praise right now.
If we criticize Cal when he loses we gotta give him credit when we win. He stuck with Ugo who was playing great and sat Bradshaw and he adjusted to get Reeves open down the stretch. Of course the players fought like hell and every time Auburn punched our guys punched back. It was a great win in one of the hardest buildings to win at in the entire country.

Holding Auburn nearly 30 pts below their home court avg deserves heaping praise.

I don't know what Cal figured out but the defense has been legit this week.

On top of that, his offensive sets in the middle of 2H likely saved the game.

Great job Cal. It doesn't fix gripes of the past but it shows he is putting in serious work with this team and making the correct moves.

Why?

Cal is the best coach in the country

He always gets a team playing its best by the end of the season.

Some of you mother ****ers hate on him 24/7.

Now you want to pump the brakes when we win??

Some of us told you we were going to win and you laughed.

So **** you!!

Strong win. Credit all around. Now you have to string together several games with this kind of effort.

South Carolina got up to play us and Tennessee. Look at them today.

No more mental lapses. No more matador defense. Time to lock in.

Yep. Can’t let up now. That LSU team will be tough at home. Have to come into that game just as focused as we did tonight. And if we get a big lead, don’t blow it like SC did today.

Calm down goober. We have lost 4 home games this season. Not best of anything.

As in the other thread.

Is it possible Cal didn't do a whole lot different, aside from trusting the players to run some different things and the players finally started playing smarter and harder and more together.

I understand he's the head coach, and these ARE his players.. but I think this place puts wayyy to much praise/blame on Cal week in and week out. I don't think every little thing that happens is because of Cal. A lot our success comes down to the players.

Great win tonight. But Cal doesn’t always get his team playing it’s best at the end of the year. He used to. Maybe he will this year. He has the pieces. Lot of good competitors.

Now this runs counter to the dozens of people here who know more than our coaching staff

I agree with this 100% ! I, too, am stoked that we won, but ... I think a lot of the reason that we won is that Ugonna played 36 minutes and Thiero played 32 minutes.
Based on the fact that neither of them has played anywhere near that many minutes previously, I would bet a big price that some combination of Welch and/or Chin and/or Antigua convinced CCC to go with that lineup.
So I, too, am pumping the brakes until we see more of Ugonna and Thiero.
But ... who knows ... we might even run a designed in-bounds play soon, too.

He managed the lineup very well tonight and didn't force Bradshaw onto the floor. And he kept going to Reeves until that well ran dry. That opened up that Sheppard assist to Thiero when we really needed a bucket at the very end.

I largely agree that Cal gets too much credit and blame. On a semi-related note they played that Mic'd Up segment from Pearl where he told his guys to trap the first pass after we crossed half court. They didn't and he was pissed. For some reason people act like our players never do stuff like that and whenever there's a bad result on a play it's alway Cal's fault.

Gain some consistency in the win column Cal.... and we shall see. Can't forget the home losses (Multiple losses and losses that should have never happened....too many times.)

Focus on coaching for a while and take a break from everything else...

Elated about the win! Like so many others here I expected us to lose easily by double digits. We’ve been inconsistent at best & they do not lose at home.

Boy was I wrong.

Yes! We showed improvement & guts. But also they missed a great many open looks & never seemed to get into any type of rhythm. Was it an off night for them? Was it our play causing them to have a poor performance? Honestly I dunno.

No matter the reason, I’ll take it. I’ll even add extra seasoning to my crow to stuff it down. This is one night I’m happy to be wrong.

I may start to ‘believe’ again but I’m afraid I’ll need a few more outings like this b4 I’ll be all-in.
