Chad Pennington

Would make an amazing OC at UK. They must start thinking outside of the box. Sayre did not have a football program until four years ago and now with only 150 boys to choose from in grades 9-12, he has them undefeated and in a state championship game this Friday. And for those of you who don't know he played several years in the NFL as the starting QB for the Jets.

I'm sure he is a good coach. Private schools can make that kind of jump though. Danville Christian Academy had a girls team win the All A State after only having a varsity team a few years. They have also won the 12 region championship and have brought in girls good enough to sign at UofL. Their boys team has multiple 6'8" plus kids and I doubt any of them are from Boyle County. Kind of off topic, but private schools have different resources than the public schools and can make huge jumps. UHA won the state basketball tournament one year and had like 40 kids in their high school.

Must have no desire to be a college or pro coach if he's coaching 1A HS football in KY.

They play in single A in Kentucky which is probably worst level of competition in the nation. Still a good job to start a football program from scratch. Glad to see them have success.

Pennington is probably a great guy and appears to be on his way to a solid coaching career. But hiring him as UK’s OC brings back vibes of CM Newton hiring Hal Mumme as HC, at least to me it does.

From the outside looking in it appears that CP's coaching gig at Sayre is just a desire to be close to his son.
According to Wiki, Sayre is his only coaching gig.
CP is 48 and is an eleven year NFL vet.
Odd if he has any desire to ascend up the coaching ladder.

Chad Pennington has two sons currently at Sayre. Luke is a senior who is committed to Dayton, as previously said and in his 3rd year as the starter. Gage is a sophomore but doesn't look to be the starter next year as there is a junior who looks like he's gotten the backup reps just by looking at their stats on KHSAA.

Once his younger son graduates I can see him moving up the coaching ranks. I would assume after his NFL career he is well off enough money wise that he is enjoying this time with his sons and coaching them.

I'd take him as our QB coach today. Surely with his tenure in the NFL, he could coach up the guys we have to read the field, buy time in the pocket, react to unexpected coverage/blitz, etc. In the NFL, so much of being a QB is between the ears and our QBs have a LONG way to go before mastering that aspect of playing the position. I certainly didn't see much progression from any of the 3 QBs this year in that area.

Does he have a son high school age that plays?
Yes. Had one that graduated a few years ago that went to Marshall and one that is the qb on this team going to Dayton. Coached his kids through youth ball and they were attending Sayre so he decided to go to the school about starting a program. Think his dad was a hs coach maybe? Great guy. Smart guy that values competing

If you go look at all the private schools in Nashville they are littered with former pros coaching to stay involved. Even just at the position coach level. Tim Haselbaci from ESPN took the Ensworth job this year. Ingle Martin played a couple nfl seasons and has dominated at the school he coaches, etc.

I had a chance to talk to him after a basketball game last season. He was incredibly down to earth. It kinda surprised me how willing he was to talk about his NFL days. He even seemed like he was glad to be asked about it. I had a lot of respect for him after meeting him.
