Prior to the Duke collapse, National Sportswriter Mike DeCourcy was anointing Cooper Flagg the GOAT

Leach has this guy on every Friday

They all were..

But it doesn't matter because he was never going to win Defensive player of the year.

If we're going to say that a freshman is the GOAT, then Anthony Davis is THE ONLY answer. If you want to say someone like Pistol Pete or Steph Curry were better because of their total time and stats and wins.. that's fine, I'm not against that thinking. But from the very first game it was clear that Flagg was not going to do what AD did.

And now its damn well cemented. No title for Flagg either.

I love the fact that Puke blew a big lead and choked down the stretch, and Puke fans are crying about that one call, love it.
Foul by Flagg on the missed rebound questionable (unless Flagg was holding); however, no one discusses the hook with the off-arm to get free to be able to take that last Flagg shot (missed)....!

So, Puke fans can cry all they want!

Flagg also messed up defensively on the 3 to get UH within 3. Ofc not his fault as much as coaching. Why tf is Flagg defending one of the 2 UH guards out on the perimeter. 1 on 1 maybe. In screening action lmao.

I agree, for 2 decades ferret face and Puke got every call in the tournament go their way, it was a foul that has rarely been called this year but it was over the back non the less, seeing Puke implode like that was glorious.

I actually think this hurts the product on the court more then it helps! Yes it'll help duke recruit.

But it can make a team cocky/overconfident and also be a distraction. Then you hear 24-7 coverage of this amazing talent who is your team mate, and end up expecting it to just somehow happen without you personally putting in the work!

Ferret face, I love it. Frank Burns spent more time in a combat zone than West Pointer Lt. Ratface

The media session after The Duke loss with KK and Flagg was interesting despite the stupid questions. KK when asked about his first half then second seemed slightly put out that the entire last 10 minutes they deferred to Flagg almost exclusively. Said something like well we went with Flagg since he had the hot hand

Seen a lot of crazy comparisons around Flagg thrown out there this year.

I actually expected him to be a better athlete before seeing him for the first time in college. I think he's going to struggle a lot at the next level, especially initially. He'll do well for himself to carve out a career on par with a Michael Porter Jr. type. Just doesn't have any elite skill or athleticism that you can easily project out and say "this is what's going to make him a superstar."

Actually like Decourcy and his takes are usually as on as any writer, but he’s been elevated a little too much my most.

His own coach seems to buy into that and out him in a tough spot on the last play. If you didn’t catch it go back and watch Duke breaking their huddle right before that….everybody knew Flagg was getting the shot but Scheyer grabs him and looks him in the eye and says “This is your time” like he was a mythical figure.

Set the kid up for a crash. As soon as I saw that I said no way he’s making this.

And anyone who was alive would have known they beat up on a poor conference and choked in 4/5 big games they had
I tried to tell DukeDallas9192011015 that they would choke when they got into a tight game in the tournament. They had done it just about every close game so far and he kept making excuses about how they wouldn't. I also knew, based on the fact that he had done it a couple of times already, that Scheyer would try to showcase Cooper and let him initiate the offense and cost them the game and he did. I didn't get why he let him try to bring the ball up and run the offense through him at the top of the key like he did our game, the Clemson game and I think he did the Kansas game as well. You would think he would have learned but I guess not.

if they had won the tourny they would have been labeled the best team of all time.
bullet dodged
They are still trying. I read a headline yesterday that said something about them being the best ever to not win it. The article then went into all sorts of the best teams in history that didn't win it all. And of course they totally left out the nearly-undefeated UK Wildcats, but mentioned two past Duke teams as they flailed to prop up the Pukies this year.

I am not going to predict what his career will look like but he is a phenomenal athlete. He is reportedly 6'9" and has a 40" vertical. He scores all over the court, rebounds, plays defense and blocks shots. I think he is the definition of an athlete. I can't stand Duke either but the kid is special.

Doesn't have elite athleticism? I don't think you were watching the same player everyone else was.

I just rewatched the end of our game with Duke and watched Flagg turn the ball over twice and not block out Oweh in the final 20 seconds of the game. I agree with you 100%. Thank you, Coach Scheyer!

Disagree.

Think once you see him on an NBA court you'll see just how average-ish (for NBA standards) his athleticism is.

In all of Duke's losses, the most common factor was Flagg screwing up. He lost the game for them against us and he choked again the other night.

He's good, but not great.

Hope he goes to the league.

Was Flagg a really good college player? Absolutely

Will anyone call him one of the greatest down the road? I kind of doubt it

OK. I am not sure who you consider athletic then. Especially when you consider that average vertical for NBA players is 28".

The guy was freakishly athletic.

I agree, however, that kind of pressure works if you're built for it. Jordan, Bird, Kobe, etc. walk out there and drain that shot without question.
