Prime time ahole

I think putting it on social media was a bit much, but what he said was perfectly fine. A lot of those kids either aren't up to the level Deion wants the program to be at and/or were half-assing it when they realized that was acceptable. So, either work hard or get out.

I thought it was pretty telling to hear one or two of the questions that amounted to asking how much work it would be. Talk about a loser's mentality. No wonder they sucked

I get this is how it goes down behind scenes. But no reason to talk to kids this way publicly
The reason Deion loves the "prime time" moniker is because he's never met a camera he doesn't love. In the end it's all about him. Saying the shit he did to the Colorado players was made public via twitter and YouTube within a few hours after it happened. That's how the guy rolls.

He basically called all the players "losers" publicly despite the fact he knew none of them, he knew nothing about the circumstances for each, he had no idea of the previous coaching the players got or didn't get. In the end, the coach who wants to tell everyone how he loves his players and does things the right way, did things the exact wrong and pathetic way from the beginning at Colorado.

He was easily able the be the tallest kid in the classroom while at Jackson State and their league. Won't be as easy to be the tallest kid in the room in Power 5 football. He will get the talent to come play for him for awhile, but he's going to need to coach them up and develop them. He needs strong coaches around him that can do this.

Anyways, Deion is simply a show. I accept it as nothing more or less than that.

They were 1-11. They may not be losers as people but everyone in that room was a loser as a D1 football player this year.

They need massive culture change. Telling them it isn’t going tk be easy and if they aren’t willing to fight and work then they should leave is the best thing for both parties. The ones who would otherwise be discontents and team cancers once things got hard and complain about the intensity of practice competition etc will transfer somewhere “easier/chiller/more fun”. The ones that are committed to doing anything it takes to be a better football player and team will stay.

We dealt with it early in Stoops career but it was pre transfer portal. We had upper classmen players that just wanted to go through the motions and then get to the next party. Stoops publicly stated that the hardest part was getting the older guys who were use to ‘easy’ tk buy in and not pollute the young guys and lockerroom.

Putting it on the same socials these kids use is essentially a call to arms for all the people who want to be an incoming transfer.

I agree. Coach can’t be too hard on the players, it might hurt their feelings.. It’s bull crap to be so hard & straight up with them.

HOW it was handled wasn't right-- you're missing that part. You don't pull your team together for the first time you meet them without even knowing them and tell them they are losers who should jump into the portal.

If you had a son sitting in that room you'd probably be the most outraged parent of all.

What he said was great and needed in todays society. This world has gotten soft.
I am fine for having a tough mindset. I'm even fine with telling dudes you might not belong here anymore as it's a new day with Sanders. But that isn't exactly what he said.

1. He did say "you just need to enter the transfer portal" to the entire group. He didn't caveat that to only those who don't want to put in the work to be great. That is not what he said.
2. Even weeding thru bodies to make room for the players he wants...fine with me. But those conversations can be done w/o cameras on to humiliate those kids. Probably half the room are still teenagers. I just cringe at doing kids like that in public....but maybe that makes me soft. I don't know.
3. He also said..."I'm bringing my kids for all kinds of spots with me". So I get his son and the #1 WR recruit are following him to Colorado. Again, not sure that is necessary. I'd imagine some of the kids at Colorado are better athletes than kids that he won with at Jackson St. Again bring all the kids you want in this day and age or portal. But brining in kids that appear to already have a spot w/o one practice to really see how it looks. ....not sure that makes all the sense in the world.

I'm going to be rooting for Deion personally. I think he's probably going to be fine but want to see him coach at a higher level of competition.....even though leftovers of Pac 12 won't be elite stuff.

Everyone in that room is at least 18 years old. Unless he was being physically abused or being defrauded in some way, why would a parent be outraged or not? I'm not trying to do the "I'm the toughest parent on the block" shtick, but seriously, parents meddling in their ADULT children's behavior is probably a not insignificant part of the problem at most dysfunctional programs.

Those players knew what was coming. It was a tepid applause when Deion walked into that room. I think the Colorado suits expected it to be a festive atmosphere too, so they had rap music blaring. But when you saw Deion's face, it was apparent this was going to be a business meeting. It really was a hell of a speech though and was totally off-the-cuff. It flowed together like a poem. The dude oozes charisma.

"I want you all to get ready, to go ahead and jump in that portal"

Damn lol

It is a challenge. Will you rise to the occasion or fail.

Competitors loves challenges & competition. He is just setting & establishing the culture from day one.

Did you listen to it? I listened to it and he never said it to everyone. It was to those that's not willing to put in the work and to look what he expects his players to look and dress.

Meh, I think you're looking into it wrong. The video basically says to me it's not easy to be a winner so either get ready or there will be someone who is.

If im a parent I want my kid challenged. I know some of you are helicopter parents that think little Donnie is special to the world. You can either throw in and get in the mud...if its not for you then okay. But that's the expectation and way it's going to be. Honestly that's what molds ppl to not quit when things suck.

Oh I disagree. I would not want anyone to fill his mind with bull 💩, but rather reality & push for him to be the best & the whole team.

For him to be taught, nothing is given but rather earned & push them to that. For them to be taught that hard work & determination is required, instead of everything is going to be easy & given to you.

You know, Reality..

My guess is he doesn't know his arse from a hole as far as running a program on this level...look at Penny Hardaway in basketball...but he'll look good on the sidelines with his AFLAC solid gold chain.

They'll win more next year, but likely 2-3 years away from competing at a top 25/Championship level. There will be some massive roster turnover next season so there will be some growing pains getting that team to gel and get on track with what Prime wants out of them. I can see improvement and a bowl game, but in 2-3 years look out. Not sure how long he will stay there if something bigger and better comes along though. Florida State would be tough for him to turn down if it came open, but they seem to be righting the ship somewhat at the moment, so if they continue to improve, that job may not be open for a while.
You honestly think this guy is winning?

The reality is that Deion, the all loving all caring humanitarian that he gets some of you to think he is, isn't at all. And if it was his kid who was in this room being told these things, even he would have a problem with it. Deion will be shown no mercy at the Power 5 level. He won't be the tallest kid in the room anymore. He's shown his own character through the years in a poor light very many times.

Same message you are saying here could have been handled in a dignified and respectful way. That's my point. Instead, he chose to handle it in the "prime time" way so the cameras could capture it all. So it was more a self centered act than one that was "not filling kid's heads with bullshit".

Its mind boggling to me someone is being made the bad guy for laying down some great values for young men while at the same time giving them some hard truth.

Coach cal did the same thing when he took over the b ball team. No one cared then because he brought in way better recruits to fill the voids and so will prime time. Besides, what he said isn’t as bad as your post makes it out to be
Agree totally...people forget all the blovating CCC did.

You honestly think this guy is winning?
Yes, I think he will win. Not gonna concern me a lot. We don't generally compete with them for recruits or on the field, but he will attract top talent. He will attract NIL deals for kids from beyond just Boosters of the program, He will put together a solid roster that can compete.

He and Trent Dilfer are very similar. They both preach and teach a lot of great principles to kids but they aren’t going to go long stretches of time without letting you know they themselves are the center of the universe and it makes you question how authentic some of it is.

I am sure for Deion, it’s not about the money. He has plenty, but don’t get me wrong, we all will take more.

I'm more or less laughing at the university entering a contract they actually can't fulfill yet. The AD has to get the money.

Deion was doing good things at JSU and HBCUs. He put them back in a relevancy that they had not had since the 90s and Eddie Robinson. However, he's a marketing guy. It's all a part of moving up. Big fish in a little pond; now he's just a fish in the big pond. He wants to be THE big fish. If he can get Colorado to 7+ wins in year 1 or 2, he's going higher.

NOT disagreeing one bit about good principles being taught to kids. We need more of this to happen. I think Mark Stoops does this at Kentucky and Ferentz does at Iowa too. It's HOW Deion goes about it that's the issue.

Your assessment is right on Deion-- he needs to constantly remind people that at the end of the day, HE is the center of the universe and wants all the cameras behind it he can get. I'm betting the sunglasses always being worn, the jackets that say Coach "Prime", the fancy quotes he likes to use for good sound bites, will only play to a certain extent at the power 5.

I don’t mind him telling guys they need to hit the transfer portal. They were 1-11 for a reason. I have an issue with him bringing in a camera crew to document him telling his team how great he’s gonna be there and they need to leave. Deion is about Deion. He couldn’t care less about Colorado. I’m sure he’ll have some success there, but his arrogance is annoying.

I agree. The fact that people are against this just shows the sad state of society.

It’s amazing that some on this board have become women. Anyone Can play football but to be your very best you have to out work the athletic player who wants to win. Being athletic at a D-1 school is a given, being great still requires working harder than the guy you have to beat. Telling these men that the world is tough is doing them a favor. It’s reality and why the young, under 40 crowd gets a bad rap. As Deion said he wants players that focus on the NFL not NIL.

Watch the full video. One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen.

Dude will have that program in the hunt for a bowl next season, the conference shortly after that…

He will be the most sought after coach in the country for pro and college gigs in about 2-3 years. I’d buy out CMS and hire Prime to the biggest contract ever tomorrow.
Pump the breaks, lol. The competition level is going to be much better. He could easily sink. He out-talented a lot of schools early on.

A camera crew was going to be there regardless. it's a newsworthy hire.
