The NBA powers that be got too obsessed with total points over the actual product about 10-20 years ago.
The game would be significantly better if they went back to a 30-35 sec shot clock
The 24 sec clock encourages pickup ball, jogging up and down the floor, one or 2 pass make a 1v1 move, 2 man game, or best case triangle offensive set due to limited time to run through a more complete offensive set where the ball rotates sides of the floor and there are series of screens and cutters that cycle until someone is open. They basically have 15-18 sec to run offense and usually try to get a shot before under 5 on the shot clock….so they essentially have 10 sec to find a shot. It’s all 1v1 and boring.
College beat the idea of shrinking the shot clock again a few years ago…I pray they never do as it emphasizes defense other than rim protection and on ball/ball screen. And it de-emphasizes running high quality offense while encouraging “make a play”
