Preach Draymond, preach.

The NBA powers that be got too obsessed with total points over the actual product about 10-20 years ago.

The game would be significantly better if they went back to a 30-35 sec shot clock

The 24 sec clock encourages pickup ball, jogging up and down the floor, one or 2 pass make a 1v1 move, 2 man game, or best case triangle offensive set due to limited time to run through a more complete offensive set where the ball rotates sides of the floor and there are series of screens and cutters that cycle until someone is open. They basically have 15-18 sec to run offense and usually try to get a shot before under 5 on the shot clock….so they essentially have 10 sec to find a shot. It’s all 1v1 and boring.

College beat the idea of shrinking the shot clock again a few years ago…I pray they never do as it emphasizes defense other than rim protection and on ball/ball screen. And it de-emphasizes running high quality offense while encouraging “make a play”
Players would still try to score in 5 seconds across half court. Defense can't stop the best shooters in the world consistently

It's not even that. The over emphasis on offense kills the game. I've literally seen a player catch the ball on the wing and take 15 steps in place switching pivots over and over with ref staring at him, and also seen a guy catch the ball at half and never dribble and proceed to take about 6 steps for a dunk and neither were called a travel .....
That doesn't even count the 4 step travels that happen every play almost.

You can't play defense really, and the offense can carry and walk to the other end over and over it's a joke. A basketball game ending 140-138 is rediculous.
Agree. It would put more emphasis on footwork and fundamentals

People like to say this, but it’s a claim undermined by the fact that the NBA is absolutely drowning in money like never before right now. And that’s only gonna accelerate after that $76 billion TV contract it just signed.

Making more money than you know what to do with ain’t a trait of a “dying” industry.
I guess it’s raking in the TV revenue because of the overseas market. But in my sphere of 20 or so pals who follow sports—only 1 truly cares about the NBA. And he’s not from the United States originally.

This is similar to my experience. It’s an odd little dichotomy. Amongst most folks in my world, the league is nowhere near as popular as it was back in the 80s and 90s. I know people who used to be die hard fans who now won’t watch it at all. And national viewership ratings have also been trending downward.

But that has not hurt their bottom line at all. The league is making way more money than ever before, and TV networks are still breaking the bank for broadcast rights. And that ain’t just explained by overseas markets …as shown by the $76 billion just paid for the US rights. I guess the networks are seeing something different than what you and I are observing.

Those are just the secondary gather steps, tertiary gather steps and quaternary gather steps. Totally normal and legal basketball!

The NBA (all other sports too) have too many playoff teams. Waters down the regular season, making those game less significant. That's a big problem imo. Making the playoffs should mean more.

First and foremost,

Draymond Green complaining that the game "is about who can hit the most 3's" is hilariously ironic. He landed in the perfect situation. He's had so much fortune and success thanks to being on the team that HITS THE MOST 3 POINTERS.

Sports is supposed to be about who can run faster, jump higher, be stronger, etc.

He complains that sports is too much about athleticism (non-skill) and 3 point shooting (skill). So which is it?

I agree the NBA has it's problems. I don't actually think the 3 point shooting is it.

Draymond Green on the NBA today: "...It’s just who can run faster, who can hit more 3s, it’s no substance. I think it’s very boring."

I am not sure what you are looking for. The object of the game is to put the ball in the basket. It seems that is no longer good enough. Some fans are upset because the league is full of good shooters who can shoot the ball from long range. Maybe they should adopt softball rules type restrictions. In softball, you can only hit a fixed number of home runs. So, maybe they should limit each team to a 3-point made limit per game. Why don't they also limit the number of crossover drives to the basket too? Maybe even consider limiting the number of dunks. How about reducing the number of charges a team can get? If we are going to get ridiculous, let's just go crazy with it. Lol

Oscar Robertson cooked Draymond with his response to this.

"It might be boring to him because if he's not passing the ball to Curry, what's he doing?"

GSW to me was supposed to be a once in a lifetime generational run by two elite 3 point snipers + KD when he came on board.

I don't think anyone expected the entire league to mimic three HOF players to the extent that it happened.

The style of play is objectively boring to watch which is why many fans have tuned out.

The object is to score within the parameter of...rules. The rules are being ignored and the game is dumb-downed. I prefer strategy, nuisances and variety, along with fundamentally strong, team basketball. Its a genetic lottery more now than ever. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
