Poythress

Yeah he was great. But lets see him play like that tomorrow against a pretty decent Arizona State team. And lets see him play like that throughout SEC. Or against KU or UL. Then he'll have done something.

If Poy can continue this and be consistent every game, and if Skal gets rougher and tougher, develops that killer instinct and we face him up more. Well then its on to put it simply. If those things happen and from this point on Poy puts up 13 and 10 per, and Skal puts up 14, 7, and 2blks then we're unbeatable. Because I really think our bad 3pt shooting is sort of fluke-ish. Murray and Ulis will start knocking down 3's way more consistently.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he's done more in his short life then you'll ever do in yours.

You come across as quite a jerk.

Your kidding right? what time is the right time to have an opinion on an essential meaningless discussion board.... It's just an opinion. For heavens sake if our discussions here have any influence on play then I am just dumbfounded.
It's just a discussion board.
And Silents...is that really you? I am amazed at your comment.....you are much better than that.
How did you completely misunderstand what they meant when they commented on your timing?

10 and 6 was pretty good in 19 minutes because of the injury in the first half. He played crazy hard and had the play of the game with that ridiculous dunk. Hopefully this is a trend. With Passive Alex, this team can still be good. But with Beast Alex, this team can be great.

You have no idea how right you are!

If Skal continues on his present course, we will live and die with Poythress. May anyway.

got called out for his play at ucla and justifiably so but I didn't see a thread commending him for his tremendous effort tonight . It wasn't just a lesser opponent either , Alex was active and took it upon himself to be assertive . That's the Poythress I know he can be , that's the Poythress we need him to be . So I'm going to give credit where it's due and recognize an outstanding effort .

I will also give Poythress credit for outstanding play.

AP needs more help. Might get tough to stay out of foul trouble if the team doesn't share the effort on the glass and defensively.

Per minute, Poythress may be our most productive player this season.

Per 40 totals:

17.8 points
13.5 rebounds
0.6 turnover
6.7 fouls

That's an efficient 17.8 points as his current offensive rating is a scintillating 141. The switch to the 4 is an offensive boon for Poythress. With less perimeter ball handling responsibility, his ball security has gone through the roof. His once slippery fingers on the perimeter are now vice grips around the hoop.

Defensively, he's having the toughest transition. It's showing in his decrease in blocks and his newfound propensity for fouling. I expect his fouling to decrease through the course of the season as he gets more comfortable defending the paint and is more judicious in contesting shots when playing help defense. Once he figures out how to defend without fouling, perhaps the sleeping giant will finally awake.
