Poythress has got to step it up...

Going by things I've read and heard about Alex in this community about six miles from his home, the young man will likely be one of the most successful former UK players we've seen in our lifetime.
But it won't be as a basketball player.

Super person, fine academics, highly thought of by everyone. A credit to his family and the university.

Wrong thing to say this morning, but truth is there's a lot to life other than roundball. I think Alex will nail that part of it.

POY does a lot of things correctly, problem is he does not have good hands. He can't hang onto the ball, like he has a catchers mitt on each hand. I will think and hope for the young man but he is what he is.

Ohio State had some big dudes that camped out in the lane and due to the fact our guards was not shooting the ball well from outside if Poythress tried to get a rebound he would have had to put his superman cape on and flew over them and when we had the ball in the paint their bigs were flailing away and stripping balls Derrick Henry couldn't have held on to them in there yesterday. I am not making excuses for Poy but you have to be realistic also and I agree with some above posters that he hasn't gave 100% effort a lot of time but that was a tough environment against a fired up and focused OSU team irregardless of their previous record. This Kentucky team has more growing to do than some of their predecessors under Calipari have had to do.. Lets be patient and see what happens, enjoy what we have life is short.

Never have understood how Poy hasn't managed to develop any at all during his time at UK. What the hell does he do in practice and the offseason other than "be an athlete?"

Well stated. I have more respect for Alex Poythress than almost any player of the Calipari era, for just the reasons you outline. He is a guy who the BBN will be proud of long after his career is finished.

One of the incidents yesterday that struck m e about Poythress was when Tate continued to flail on a rebound throwing Skal to the floor . Skal gets up and is visibly upset , Tate then puffs up and starts back across the 10 to 15 feet that he had walked away from the play. He passes senior Alex on the way , who instead of stepping in and showing he has the freshmans back ,simply watched the aggressor have to be met by refs.
I'm not implying that Alex should have attacked Tate , that would have been a whole other problem . As a senior leader the these young guys are supposed to respect a follow , he should have stepped between .
I know I'll get slammed for this take , but I feel this is just one of many examples of his lack of leadership.
