He was out hustled on many rebounds and failed to hit those crucial free throws... as the only senior he HAS to step it up....come on Poy..you have to do that..

Agree, when he plays hard he's unstoppable, just like Richard Madison was, unfortunately he doesn't always play hard.

Looks to me he has the weakest wrist I've ever seen. Gets blocked easy and gets the ball taken away.

He is what he is a vastly overrated player who dunked on bad players in a small town

Where's kybassfan? You better not say anything the least bit negative about Poy or you'll all be labeled bashers. Alex was the MVP of the game imo. :eyes:

Why does anyone expect him to do much of anything at this point? After 3+ years we should know what he is.
Absolutely agree 100%. Why everyone keeps "hoping" is beyond me. We've seen it for 3+ years. He is what he is. Typified by draining the three, followed by bricking the one and one that could've cut it to one. Gets blocked in the paint more than Ulis.

Kid has no plays run for him. Ulis time and again today missed him on the lob today off the pick and roll. If a team tells one guy to only block out Poythress and don't turn him loose defensively then he will not do much of anything. I would love to see Cal run some screening down low. Let Lee and Poythress work alttle two man game, some high low. Right now the only time the big men touch is off penetration. I think this limits the offense.

The thing that hurt most today was the miss on the 1 and 1 that lead to 4 points on the other end. Make those two free throws and it is a one point game, instead the lead grows to 7 and that was too much to overcome.

Honestly, I can't wait to see the kid depart this season, tired of hearing the whole roar BS, just a great student athlete who never lived up to the hype, it happens. He'll play in Israel or some other place next season.

That has nothing to do with what happened to Poy today. He had his opportunities, just couldn't pull it off.

Still hoping that Poy can break out before the end of the season.

Poy is who he is....incredible athlete who is a good role player! We just have to accept that fact....

Has " no plays drawn up for him " I love Alex but just what shots other than dunks or stick backs do we want Alex taking ? Guy is s serious brick layer with poor hands . I did think from the last 15 min I got to see he played his guts out . To me his effort usually is above most others on this years version of our Cats

At this point we have to accept what Poythress is. He isn't going to step up. He is a role player. Nothing more.
Exactly. Tired of folks saying that "he needs to step it up". He loses the ball almost every time he puts it on the floor (dribbles). He hustles his butt off for rebounds only to lose the ball before he can go back up with it. If not an uncontested dunk or occasionally open three, he pretty much doesn't help at all. He just doesn't have the tools. I'm sorry.

This has pretty much been the story of his career here at UK. He is such a tremendous athlete. And shows monster brilliance at times. But seems like 80% of the time, he is just kind of hanging out on the court.

What is sad, is that he is not only hurting this team, but he is torpedoing his chances at ever playing in the league. I think he is now destined to play overseas.

We all talked about the same thing in the UCLA game that how bad Poythress has to step it up and he comes out vs. EKU and has 21 points and 13 rebounds. Then in the ASU game when he hurts his knee he still manages 10 points and 6 rebounds and everyone on here was talking about how Poythress had been playing so much better and hustling and taking it more to the basket. Then we go against OSU and once again he has 6 points in 28 minutes and doesn't even look like he did in last 2 games. Poythress is not a consistent player and that gives you that Double-Double every game and plays all out for 30 minutes each game. He is too up and down inconsistent player and he has been this way all 4 years at Kentucky! He is a player that was coming out High School avg. over 30 ppg. and over 12 rpg. and he was deadly from outside and 3 point shot. He is a player that most experts and fans thought would be a 1 and done player!

He isn't unstoppable when he plays hard. He mishandled or lost 4 rebounds today. He stepped on the baseline trying to score AGAIN. Had 3 shots blocked, way to many for 6'8" 250lbs. Played hard today just doesn't produce. Missed 2 or 3 shots within 2 ft of basket. Weak hands can't handle in traffic. Been waiting for yrs for him to be the beast everyone says he is but don't see it. When he starts dunking close in shot with a nasty attitude we will have the player we thought we were getting 4 yrs ago.

I knew when his first attempt on that baseline drive was put back in his face that he was going to disappear and play weak. The reality is against other big players he is just not that good. Sure, at home against a team like Eastern Kentucky or even ASU, he can be great. But, was he the beast, did he stand out on the front line against Ohio State and show he was way superior than their players?

It is tough to know if this Kentucky team can be great. They are good offensively in uptempo but teams have learned to pack the paint. Skal may be the first Cal whiff of what was thought to be an elite superstar and is way less than that. So, take Skal and Poy out and whom do you play? Seems like starters and main players are Lee, Murray, Briscoe, Ulis, and ???? Humphries might be a better option than Skal simply for defense and rebounding. Lee is better than Poy.

This thread is hilarious. I posted 2 weeks ago he was a bust and started that I was all for him for 2 years but finally concluded that he was a bust in my eyes. Besides like 2 posters on here you would have thought I had sad he was Saul Smith.

Two words that will NEVER be in the same sentence when discussing AP...unstoppable and Alex unless you say Alex is NOT unstoppable. As a previous poster stated, he is who he is.

You can't wait to see him leave? That's some weak shit. Dude is inconsistent but without him we don't make the 2014 title game.

Alex is a great kid and very intelligent. Going to have a very successful career and life. He will not be the player we keep waiting for him to be.

He still makes the bad plays he made as a freshman and the great plays. His ball handling has not improved or his shooting. To me, he is the exact same player he was from day one. Love Alex but he will be the same if he stays 10 years.
