Pope show coming up

Didn’t say he if Pope did or didn’t but there are people acting like coaches don’t rip the players in private and coaches do. I posted in another thread (before Popes show) that postgame last night from Pope’s comments to Leach I sure felt he lit some ass up.

Just because Pope doesn’t act like Hurley in public doesn’t mean he won’t occasionally light his players up. My guess is his focus in 90%+ positive but will get into them after stuff like last night. My belief is the occasional taking to the woodshed is much more effective than 100% screaming.
Agree 100%

That seems very odd for sure. Butler doesn’t seem like a kid to cause trouble and with doors wide open, can’t imagine it would be anything with $$. I hate to do it, but I’m starting to wonder if there is more to it than injury.
I don’t think it’s anything more than injuries. He’s a good kid and tough. I think the rumor may be true that it requires surgery but they’re trying to figure out a way to play through it with physical therapy and put off the surgery until after the season. But again, that’s just a rumor floating around

I choose to believe this also.
But with no proof it’s just what I’m thinking.

As nice as he is, I imagine he was trying very hard to bite his tongue.

John Wooden? Heard of him. Phil Jackson? Heard of him. Yeah no big deal….just the greatest coach in college and NBA respectively. Lol
You think John Wooden was passive? Uh no. He had standards and rules, if you didn't follow them, you were out.

Phil Jackson, yeah, he was calm in his later years, but how much yelling was he going to do with those teams? You think he was going to get red with Michael Jordan? Plus, the NBA is full of millionaire stars that have agents. You don't think they would put up with a coach ripping them during a game, do you?

But the biggest thing is, the game is a thousand times different now than it was 60 years ago. Back then, there were. like 4 programs that were any good and the 2 handed set shot was a thing. Today, the game is far more physical and athletic. You better have an edge to your game, or you're not winning crap.

Yeah that technique will sour real fast if the results aren't there lol. Because I'll tell yah, that sounds an awful lot like Cal, we're just twisting it a bit.

You're either answering questions, or you're not, theres no real middle ground.

Granted Cal was awful with this in the final years.. but coach speak is coach speak.. you're going to get it a little differently from every coach.. and it works fine with the fans, until it doesn't.

Probably why people say this is a 10 year job lol.
I think the easy answer to this is when you’re winning nobody cares what you say, when you’re losing everything you say is going to annoy people

Give me even a shred of actual information to back up your last statement. If you don't have any you really shouldn't cast dispersion on the guy.

You gave me a lot of blah blah blah. Nobody knows or cares what the coach does behind the scenes. When you watch Jackson or Wooden they have a calm demeanor. Every coach has standards and so does Pope. We don’t know if he’s chewing guys out (he has said he does selectively) but just because he doesn’t do it on the sideline doesn’t mean he isn’t doing it. Regardless there are multiple ways to coach which is the point. Last year, everyone complained about Cal’s sideline antics and now everyone is complaining about Pope’s. Common denominator is the whiny fans.

LMAO, you think Pope is chewing guys out behind the scenes? Do you really think that?

Yeah, take a look at the product on the floor and try to say that with a straight face.

It simply isn't Pope's style and you're legit trying to compare him to Phil Jackson and John Wooden. Yikes.

He did something last night and they played a 2nd better half, while you were in your mommy's basement with Jergens lotion watching youtube.

Oh goodie, we have a child among us.

Cool, Pope finally broke a f^cking chalk board. Great, but why did he wait this long?

That also doesn't mean he has been doing that since day 1. It's not his nature, but you keep on thinking he's been like this the whole season.

I've been saying that since the very beginning. It's only a matter of time before people start complaining about Pope's press conferences and radio shows just like they did Cal at the end.

And I truly think it being a 10 year job is a problem. No other school in the country is that the case. If Self were the coach here and had the run he had at Kansas from 2008-2021, where he had a 13 year title drought and only made 2 Final Fours despite always being a top seed, people would have been calling for his head. And he's one of the best coaches in the country.

Eventually getting sick of successful coaches after just a decade will catch up to the program and we'll get stuck in a (hopefully short) cycle of mediocrity. The key to being a top program is hitting on your coaching hires and having them stick around for a long time to give the program stability. That's why Duke, Kansas, and UNC are still relevant blue bloods in 2024 and UCLA and Indiana aren't.

How bout you go put on some dark clothing and go dribble up and down the highway telling everyone how great you are!

Why do you think Pope also doesn't do this? The fact is he couldn't do it right now if he wanted to. You've been complaining about the freshmen getting minutes as it is. We simply don't have enough skilled players right now to give guys who aren't giving the effort you feel is acceptable a "time out".

Hmm, the freshmen have to play minutes, nobody is saying they shouldn't play. But I'll say this dliwly for yiu so you understand this time…… . you can't do a hockey line change and put Perry, Chandler, Noah and Garrison in at the same time.

Please tell me if you need further explanation, you obviously didn't understand it the first 5 tines I said it.

And no, I don't believe Pope is anything like John Wooden in practice, or in meeting rooms. Again, look at the product on the floor. 218th rated defense since January 1st.

This doesn't mean I am dogging MP, he's awesome, but he's simply not a good defensive coach.
