Oh that's a guarantee, but to be fair, they probably won't see too many defenses that give them so many wide open looks.
I wanted a zone too, but truthfully thinking about it, I’m not even sure a zone is the answer if a 32% 3pt shooting team is hitting 52% of their deep shots. Sometimes it just happens in basketball.
Yeah, but the "we let certain guys shoot" plan, is not a good plan at this level and certainly not in this conference this year. It seems like everyone can hit if left wide open.
Yeah, we got lucky and it worked Tuesday night, but that's not a risk you can roll with night in and night out.
I think a better plan would be to go out and cover shooters and go over screens.
Last night playing zone would likely have left Arkansas more open, if that were possible.
He’s exactly right I loveeeee Pope, but he has got to tighten up his D preparation big time and if you are as unathletic as we are you have GOT TO play a zone preferably 1-3-1

That would take 1) one hell of a turnaround from them and 2) a very subpar end to our regular season.
There's some very winnable games for UK coming up in conference play. Hopefully we are healthy enough to take advantage of them.
It's amazing how fast you trash pope at every loss and don't say anything positive about some of our on the road great wins this year . So because people are mad pope dropped the ball and lost to a 1-6 team at home it means we want cal back? Thats silly, no one wants cal back or condones his results we wanted rid of him so we can win games like this

I’m not bashing Pope. I like him a lot and think he’s been quite good this year. Simply pointing out a fact.
How about pointing out the fact that Calipari won 2 tournament games at Umass, Memphis and UK without Robic in his 33 year career?

I was talking in generalities just to clarify. I haven’t been able to watch the game yet but he has done decent job all year. I guess he was trying to maximize with 3 players out. Not sure without watching. 👍
To clarify, I’m not down on Pope. I think he is going to be a great coach here and he is exceeding my expectations this season. Myself and many others question his sub patterns at times, especially during these injuries. But I’m sure he’s still figuring that out on the fly. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don’t. I thought they hurt us that game though.
You can play zone and still guard the three! Now rebounding can be a problem in a zone.
I think our guys came out plenty motivated. You're blind if you didn't see that. Their energy and passion was on full display from the tip-off

But Kentucky's performance against Arkansas is exactly why Cal didn't want a team full of "shooters", defense becomes a huge liablity. So when you aren't hitting 3s, or even getting the amount of looks from 3 that you need, then how do you score?
More importantly, are you even getting enough stops on the defensive end for it to matter?
Outscoring teams 106-100 is GREAT for fans, and it's great for the energy of the problem. But when you lose low-scoring games, or drop the offense completely like against Arkansas, it's a bad look. And when your defense gives up season high outputs from opponents, it's a bad look.
