Great points. Americans are willing to do all sorts of work if they are properly compensated.Yeah, I read those comment and have to say it pisses me off pretty bad. I had to leave EE because there were no jobs there. Then I went to IT and had to again compete with H1Bs so I left that too.
His fallacy that people in the US don't want to work is horseshit. They might not want to work 90 hours a week for peanuts so that Tesla can make another point on the stock exchange, but those who I know would love a steady well paying job.
The comment about investing in schools didn't sit too well either. Many of the jobs he wants to fill can be done by someone with a two year EE degree. It doesn't take a doctorate to do that kind of work. Good luck getting anywhere without that piece of paper though. You won't even make it past the AI gatekeeper without it.
I wondered what his angle was getting involved in politics. Now the mask is starting to slip. H1B windfall for him to go along with those sweet government contracts.
The next 4 years are going to force everyone to pivot. I think AI is going to fundamentally change everything. Intelligence is a terrible way to measure success, but we’ve done it because it was easy to measure.
Next 4 years will need to see more schools assessing students in terms of grittiness. More than half of the 8th graders this year used ChatGPT for their book project.
