Our government shouldn't have a loophole to disregard a presidential election. That was the purpose of the 1887 Electoral Count Act, to close that loophole after it was discovered and used in 1876 by former slave states to contest the election. The fact remains that we held an election that didn't follow State election laws, private parties were given access to ballots, and it lacked integrity. Alternate electors were sent from States, and it was being contested by the Congress. In light of that, there is a process laid out in the Constitution on how to proceed.
