I am guessing this will derail at some point but I am hoping to get some insight. Cal shit his bed years ago with the fan base but the players loved him but now the players are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship. Anyone have any insight as to what the common complaint the players are having?

I’ve gone to the Bahamas the last 2 trips. Been to every SEC tourney. Went to NY and London last season.

That puts me in contact with a list of UK fans.

None from this site though.

And not a single one has said anything even alluding to wanting Cal gone.

Bryce Hopkins just this past year mentioned he didn’t like playing for Cal and it is also well known that livingston darn near left the team at Christmas break. You don’t leave mid season if you’re happy. Also appears livingston will be keeping his name in the draft while not even on the draft board as opposed to coming back to play for cal another season.

Like the OP, I know a lot of UK fans who don’t even know this board exist and none of them can stand Cal and want his ass gone.

The op wasn’t to troll, I was really wondering if players are tired of Cal or if it’s more of a system wide issue. The problem is I don’t see other blue bloods with empty cupboards.

I think one of the problems is that Cal has made it all about the NBA.If a player here doesn't leave after a year here the kid considers it a tragedy.

Spot on ... to stay a second year if recruited as a OAD is a huge negative perception for the player. Add to that the threat posed by a fresh batch of incoming, so-called, OAD players that will threaten playing time for a returning player means the best option is to transfer. How the hell can any program see stability and growth with that insanity? To attempt to pull that off anywhere, including Kentucky, would require a coach to be a delusional (Sick and Twisted), narcissistic, selfish, lying, carpetbagging pinhead ... very much like John Calipari. To be allowed to do this to an iconic program like Kentucky is a crime ... CRIME. John Calipari should be FIRED for cause ... breach of contractual intent because he wasn't hired to destroy the program. As each year passes and Calipari continues to be a larger laughingstock among his peers, UK's management of this pinhead should be very-seriously called into question. The word malfeasance comes to mind ... which points to the Board, President, and the AD.

Take a look at the number of players that entered the transfer portal, estimated 2,000 and compare it to UK. Virtually every school had multiple portal enrollees'. I guess Cals influence has infiltrated all of college basketball. All of the teams have sinking ships I suppose.

With any coaching job, you have to decide who is on your first string of players....

This gets pretty bad I think at UK.

Competition either makes the best product or the worst out of those that are fighting for a spot.

I don’t know a single fan that likes Cal not a single one. I live in Phoenix now but all of my friends I talk basketball with still are in Bowling Green where I grew up and lived most of my
Life, and there’s quite a few I talk sports with. Not directed at you personally but I have to wonder how serious someone takes UK basketball when they say they are happy with Cal’s performance. I’m old enough that we can agree to disagree and still be friends but setting friendly banter aside I gotta wonder about someone happy with Cal and I know I’m not alone. I come across abrasive on this site I’m sure I don’t wish ill on anyone here. My first game for UK was over 40 years ago and my love for the University is still high, the state of the program, not so much. To be honest the way the game is now doesn’t really resemble what I watch led for 40 years.

Thank you for the detailed response. I don’t disguise I don’t like Cal, but my love for the program is 40 plus years. I really don’t like the current status of the program, or college basketball for that matter.

The only problem I have, there's not 1 even close hire that knocks it out of the park at this time. I don't like everything Cal does but our program is different than any of the rest and it takes a special person for this job. IMO it's a crap shoot on who gets hired now or in the future. I've followed KY for over 70 years and folks if you haven't noticed times have changed and will never be like the past.


IMO we need to utilize the resources available to help pick a new coach. People like Pat Riley, Dan Issel, Sky Walker and even some current NBA players to be contacted when the time comes. Pag Riley has one of the best basketball minds in basketball for decades, surely he would help. Just food for thought.

Yeah, I agree , I’m not a fan of the new era of college basketball. It makes me feel old school to say “I miss the days of……”.
