pitino went off on Bozich

My theory....the money people at U of L have paid Andre off to say nothing and left Pitino out of the loop.

Pitino was never asked about the scandal by the way. Volunteered all of that on his own. Speaks volumes.

Most likely the case and makes sense all around. Money people go to someone close to Andre so there is plausible deniability if it ever came up. Since he cannot coach every again in college they tell him that he can still make money off of his skills. If he never discusses what happens they will give him $200k up front and $50-60k per year every year he stays quiet. Both sides win and chump change for U of L.

so you're saying he's an alien - a......(wait for it)

Rick must've pissed Tim off yesterday.

Might have been the comment about his age. He said that at 63 you don't care any more so you just come out and say things, "isn't that right, Tim?" Tim replied "I'm not 63" and Pitino said "I thought you were in your 70s".

Pitino looks like Death warmed over,he could get a zombie part on the Walking Dead without any makeup, syphilis and stress from being on the chopping block are doing wonders for his complexion

How cynical does a member of the hallowed Fourth Estate have to be to suggest a public university pay hush money to a prostitute to avoid hurting its brand?

Good point. I think he was taking the opportunity to point out that this has been UL's MO when they get their tit in a wringer. Could it be that Powell was so angry at them she didn't even go the extortion route? When the point shaving thing came up a couple of years ago they went to the FBI. When Karen's hush money demands got too high they did the same. I'm guessing she didn't try to extort them.

That press conference was as bad as it gets for Pitino. Nothing but a bunch of conflicting rambling for a known narcissist and egomaniac. It doesn't matter if Pitino was directly involved or not or if he even knew of any of it. What matters is at least some of it happened (as he admitted to in this presser.) Yes, it would be a much bigger deal if the head coach knew or had involvement with the scandal but the fact that it did happen is enough for UL to be in serious trouble and likely with the FBI with money being wired across state lines for a crime. It just shows the level of stupidity of UL fans that they think nothing happened or if something did happen it's no big deal. I don't look for any ruling to come out anytime soon but when it does, UL basketball is done. That's what happens when you sacrifice integrity for the sake of winning and are as corrupt as UL has been for a long time. It's finally catching up with them. Not that it actually matters to them because criminal activity is a prerequisite to being a UL fan or being employed there.

As much as I'm in agreement that UL deserves their comeuppance, I can't help but appreciate his frustration for dragging the North Carolina scandal out for comparison.

He said "At 63 I don't care what people think of me anymore." And then just a few seconds later said to Bozich 'It really bothers me that you think that of me.'

This man is a walking lie and contradiction.

I rarely come over to this side of the board but this thread isn't about basketball its about Rick the egomaniac........
Rick Pitino at UofL... what was he thinking?

So instead of the State of Kentucky being all whoopie upon his return he finds there is only a warm fuzzy in Jefferson County.... Rick really thought he was BASKETBALL here in Kentucky... He thought he'd be loved, and welcomed back to the State where he was legend...... He was just fine with Tubby or BCG here.... But bringing Cal in and being on the loosing end year after year has him all discombobulated... He's getting his ass handed to him by a better version of himself... He can't handle it.

The money floats around the UofL Campus like little duckies in a bathtub.... Just reach out and get some of that....coaches, players, professors, President of the University... Rick the egomaniac, is just a bad fit for a University that is loosely run and enables bad behavior and poor decision making...

Rick picked the wrong place to coach.... But that's the persecutive of a normal guy... Ricks not normal... He's an ego-freak... Stick a fork in him.

Ok I am going to say this one time and one time only. When Rick was here I used to think gong into every game we had an advantage because he was our coach. I really appreciated what he did for Kentucky basketball in the time he was here. I did get tired of the Rick to the NBA every year because I though other coaches used it against us in recruiting big time. When he left for Boston , I hated it, but I said to myself well it is Boston. I cheered for Boston during those years as well. When Rick left the NBA and went to U of Smell, I said well that's that. I could never or will root for him again. I don't know maybe Rick though by HIM going there people would change somewhat and become Louisville fans to some extent , but surely he knew better. Its time for him to retire, to much negative stuff , not in Smellville of course, only because the press is not allowed to write anything negative, till just here lately. Even then the only reason its being done is because people on the outside are laughing at them and there blind eye attitude.

Three Questions and Four Points:

Did I hear that the NY Times was at the UK UL Game? First Point: If so let's hope they are working on a comprehensive tell-all and expose-all story - the kind that only the Times can write and the CJ won't. One that covers all of the issues concerning UL.

Second Question: Is it more likely that Pitino made sure he never heard specifics but had a sense of what was going-on or do we think he had zero knowledge and not the least suspicion?

Second Point: I believe him when he says he makes too much money to allow something like that happen. But I just cannot help but believe he made sure no one could directly implicate him by proving he had direct knowledge and that is why he is so boldly attacking the issue. My read is that a coach who controls every aspect of his program intentionally turned a blind eye.

Third Question: How often have we heard someone say "I didn't hear anything or see anything" with a sly mental smile?

Third Point: My take is his history fully supports that he allowed it to happen or at least created the environment that allowed it to happen. But I think he had a real sense about it and was smart enough in his mind to not dig into it.

Last Point - for him to talk about character, values, and to say he taught people better is nothing more that a delusional and narcissistic attempt at a cover up.

Anybody that's ever been close enough to Rick Pitino to see the real person will tell you that in his mind he is above everyone around him. While he may not have directly paid Katina Powell or told Andre McGee to hire Hookers and provide sex for recruits and parents, you can bet because of the pressure created from John Calipari's recruiting and winning at Kentucky,he told his underlings to do whatever it took to get top players.
No One,Not One person in their sane, logical mind can look me in the eye and tell me Pitino had absolutely no knowledge that something amiss was going on for 4 years in the dorm where players lived,He knew, but didn't want to know.As others have said ; Plausible Deniability.
There is no doubt the man knew of all the off court troubles his players were involved in and covered up by him,the athletic dept. and the Louisville Media. Off the top of my head Samardo Samuels,Terrence Jennings,Jerry Smith,Chane Behannon,Preston Knowles,Chris Jones, and I'm sure I forgot many more.
