Pitino at BBM

Is the special someone Calipari or the U of L fan base?
Im just saying I hope any true UK fan is thankful for the memories several of our coaches have brought us. No other school has that coaching tree except for us.

Pitino has another job. Cal has another job. Pope is here. The drama that has come out of UK athletics the last several years has been exhausting and it’s time for it to go away.

Then are his spots what he did for us while here or what he did while at UL? One of those were changed at some point.
I mean if you want to twist it that way, be my guest. You show know what “spots” mean & it’s not coaching ability. & if you don’t know that, then I can’t help you.

YawnExactly. A selfish liar now trying to get back in good graces. Fck that.

Just confirmed he will be at the football game on Saturday, this indicates he will also be at BBM.
I hope that the BBM gives coach Pitino a rousing standing ovation. He's had nothing but positive things to say about UK since the hiring of Mark Pope. I can't imagine that any coach in the history of athletics is living with the regrets that Pitino is living with. Him knowing that if he would have stayed here that he would have 5/6/ maybe 7 national championships & over 1,200 wins. He would be to college basketball what Nick Saban is to college football. I've forgiven him for taking the Louisville job. I hope everyone else can as well.

Who considers Louisville fans UK's arch nemesis besides the small portion of hyper-emotional UK fans who don't know how to navigate the memories of the school bully who tormented them while wearing a Louisville shirt? It's always been UK vs. the world. Louisville is just the city college that got in the way a few times 40 years ago.
Not sure what to tell you if you don’t think they are UKs main rival. Maybe it’s Baylor….

I’m damn sure UK doesn’t need skeletor as a fan who wants to hang on when he ditched us.

Some of you really think a 72 year old man who has shit on multiple universities wouldn’t do it again given the chance? And you want to welcome the guy back who gave the fans the middle finger (literally), left for a rival, couldn’t tell the truth to save his life, etc?

Hope you give your wives that much grace.

He’s definitely made it clear UK was his place and that he was stupid for prioritizing quick money over his legacy and where he was the best fit at and had rolling. He probably would have made the same amount of money had he stayed here 30 years by now.
Right? What with the way college salaries have blown up he may well have made more. And on the other point, I would think you’d have to be practically blind not see he had no reason to be at Louisville other than trying to recreate what he had here. Truth is, bad as we hated him for going there, in a tragic way it was probably the biggest compliment he could have paid us.

I welcome Pitino back with open arms. He's several years removed from being the UofL coach... he's an absolute Kentucky/Louisville basketball legend at both universities.

You know he's 72 and I want to give Pitino the respect he deserves for bringing UK back to relevancy and the masterclass coaching that only he's capable of in college. Pitino always did more with less... imagine the terror he'd unleash on the sport with recruits that Coach K, Cal, Self and Roy Williams had the luxury of coaching.

Morals to be damned if we are talking basketball only... I'd put Pitino up with just about anyone. UK should be honored that he still loves this university and gives great press in spite of coaching at a rival school.

My message to the haters - suck it up buttercup.

I have no problem with it.. except I hope this isn’t just a way to slap a special someone in the face.. which I believe it is.

UK sports, especially the big two, need to do away with the drama. We’ve been dealing with it for too long now. I’m just afraid this stuff is gonna turn into a distraction.

I’m thankful for the entire history of Kentucky basketball with the exception of the Billy Gillespie era.
I don’t think Pope would willingly step in a steaming pile of drama having never coached his first game here. He has been pretty clear he loves RP. I would assume his intentions are true and sincere, if it is the case he invited him.

The middle finger thing is so overblown. God forbid someone in the state of Kentucky give a middle finger. If you don’t know what was yelled at him first you might wanna investigate. I’m not fully supporting RP back but geez dude the middle finger thing from a New Yorker seems a bit overblown. I’m a UK fan through and through but you say something about my family for example you’ll get more than a finger. He definitely wasn’t professional but crying over a middle finger this many years later seems a bit 3rd grader.

Just because that's common in NY doesn't mean that's how you act down here, and towards "family" no less. It was bad enough he took the UofL job over the Michigan job seemingly just to spite us. That finger was personal and it was uncalled for.

Imagine if Cal did that now at Arky? We'd be rightfully a little pissed.

He's a multi-millionaire HOF college basketball legend flipping off regular folks, that's pretty crappy. Be the bigger dude and walk on. Laugh it off and go home to your riches. Why be so low? Oh no, a bunch of (probably drunk) college fans of a rival team potentially said something mean to me. How dare those peasants?!

Even worse, he lied about afterwards saying he was "brushing his hair" or something like that. Like, BS dude. In the words of a former UK coach, "There's no crying on the yacht."

Remove that God awful tattoo and apologize for flipping off fans at Rupp and he can absolutely come home.

"Morals be damned" is why we are where we are at in today's society.

Look, I'm no Pollyanna, but integrity DOES mattee. The crap that some of these athletes and coaches get away with in the name of "only winning" is not a good road; and we'd all be fired with cause/and or arrested if we did most of it.

And as much as Cal sucked in his last few seasons, I will always give him credit for teaching our boys how to be decent people. Look at Boogie. We all love Boogie and he's one of those dudes that absolutely would've been off the rails without mentorship in empathy and integrity. Even he has stated that.

No one is perfect, but man, Pitino has some huge flaws even amongst the sports world. I can appreciate what he did while he was hear and enjoyed every minute of it. I can also acknowledge that he was bit arrogant while here (and that's ok to a degree) but became a horrible person afterwards.

Pitino left UK while UK was high on the mountain. Everyone seems to want to forget what he done for this program because they can’t get the Louisville stuff out of their head. He actually done more good for this program than that last joker did. Pitino might’ve had an ego the size of the USA but he wanted to win and win big. Cal also had an ego the size of the USA but he wanted to use the program for his own damn agenda and winning was way down his list. You can see that clearly and the last 9 years will tell the whole story!

I’m happy to see him back around the program. He did much more good than bad for our program (can’t say that about Louisville)

Welcome back, Coach

The middle finger is overblown. Those that it bother say it was towards the entire fan base. Let’s not act like he stood at mid court with double fingers extended as he spun around to the entire crowd. He was walking out and appeared to have the finger directed at most a small group of fans. We don’t know what was said to get the finger response but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was warranted. Like I said in an earlier post, Rick deserves blame for the animosity between he and BBN but we are not blameless.

Exactly...he didn't flip off BBN, he flipped off one loud mouth fan who was yelling Lord only knows what at him IMMEDIATELY following a tough emotional loss. Big freakin' whoop...if that was the worst thing he ever did he's a first ballot HOF saint

Our fans are hilarious. How could you want this guy anywhere near our program? One of the last times he was in Rupp he gave the entire crowd a big FU. While at UL, he hired strippers for underage recruits and players. He is the only coach to ever have a national championship stripped from him. He banged some skank on a restaurant table and then made her get an abortion.

Nobody on this board wanted him anywhere near us when all that was going on. Short memories on many of you. I personally cannot stand him, regardless of his abilities to coach or passion for the game.

Pitino was the best coach I’ve seen at getting the most talent out of every player he coached. He had teams at UofL you would have swore would barely make the tourney, if at all, and he made an Elite 8 run.
It’s amazing what hiring strippers to visit the dorms will do to motivate young men.

If he's at BBM I'm cheering and IDGAF who don't like it. I love Pitino.
Bwhahaha. No one cares Grandpa.
Do you spend your whole day like this?
I'm going to go make a bowl a cereal, and IDGAF if you don't like Lucky Charms or not. Then I'm going to watch Matlock, and you can suck a D if it's season 3.

Isn't he still the coach at St Johns?
I would think first week of practice is bad time to go see a Saturday night football game. Can't imagine he's adding BBM the night before.

Glad he will come back and help Pope and UK. Everyone makes mistakes and it wrong to hold hate against someone.
I expect to see all these fans saying this and other similar statements say the same about Cal. Cal is like
Pitino in that he rescued our program from a pretty crappy place, he had some amazing years that were exciting as could be, and had the personality/ego needed to lead the UK program.

If you all can forgive Pitino for doing all that while choosing to coach at UL (knowing better than anyone what that means to UK fans), then having the same sentiment towards Cal should be no problem.

Revisionist history at its finest in this post. He didn’t give an FU to the entire crowd. He did that the a particular group as he walked out. He never received any punishment from the NCAA for the UL stuff. We used to use that same point to defend Cal. He banged a chick in a restaurant and paid for her abortion. Do you think he’s the only coach to ever cheat on his wife? If those things happened while he was here, they would hold a lot more weight. Everyone deserves a chance to make amends. He donates to UK NIL, he has openly supported Pope, and he’s said he wishes he never left. If reconciliation was not possibly for any of us when we wronged others, then we would all be alone. It’s time to reconcile and accept leave that past in the past.

Practice has been going on for weeks. UL, Duke, and many others have already had their BBM equivalent.

When Cal has been gone as long as Rick has, we will. It didn’t happen overnight with Rick and it won’t with Cal either.

lol, except we KNOW that's not the worst thing he ever did, by a long shot. It's just another crappy thing in a long list of crappy things.
