Pilgrim on Oweh…

Easily my favorite player on the team. But my goodness, his shooting form makes MKG’s look like Klay Thompson’s. Should 1000% return.
Definitely agree with you and would also add that he really needs to improve his handle as well since he does lose control of the ball more often than he should. But, his shooting form and % makes is well off the NBA mark, especially for a player his size.

While his shooting form isn't good by any means, there is none that comes close to MKG's who easily had the ugliest I've ever seen. I don't know how to post a pic or I would. Here is a link that has a pic in it though. And this was after, he had someone help him with his form.

Crazy thing is it wasn’t that bad at Kentucky .

MKG was a great kid I was really pulling for his success . I think he lost his confidence once he got to the league too .

Just going to enlighten you but Jack Pilgrim knows nothing. He just quotes the obvious like it is some sort of inside info

I've seen that photo before, and it's mind blowing. How can a player get through middle school and high school without someone correcting that? I mean hell, why didn't his FATHER/UNCLE/BROTHER correct it when he was 8 years old.

I feel pretty confident he will be back.... I've mentioned this numerous times this year but his skill set is not polished enough to sniff the NBA floor.
Accurate. And I'm not sure it's something teams would give him much G-League hope for either. Undersized wing that doesn't shoot it all that well and has shaky handles. Great motor and pretty explosive. I'm just not really certain there's a lot that can be developed. Retooling a shooting form is a whole lot tougher than just saying it or typing it. If you can shoot, you better be able to dribble and pass.

We saw this with Cal players but "testing the waters" just means going to some of these events with scouts and getting feedback on what areas they want to see you improve to have a shot at the NBA. Oweh would not get drafted this year. He'll be back in college, and I can't imagine after the jump in production he had this year he'll be looking to move on from Pope/UK.

I believe a lot of these “tweeners” are going to use the “Draft Process” as a way to up their NIL stock, and nothing more!

Huge, HUGE OO fan here, but he has as much chance as making a NBA roster with that jumper as I do, and I’m 5’9 and 53 years old.

Yawn City💯

I'm with you and also think UK will come up with enough NIL for him to want to stay at UK. Plus Pope has been great for him.

I don't really feel this way. Last year is his last year of eligibility, so even if he's not ready for the NBA whatsoever, it makes 0 sense for him NOT to test the waters, when this offseason is the last time he'll have that chance.

Hate to lose Owey but it's his decision.

I dislike this time of year so much when guys are talking not coming back. I feel like we are just dangling in the wind at the players mercy.
I know this isn't directly from Owey but it could be true.
I hope we identify players we want and get them even if some of our players are undecided.

Need him to come back if we are going to have any chance at a title next year.
Portal changed this, you can find guys ready to compete at a championship level in the portal. It'll be a feather in Pope hat when he goes after the next portal star.

Why are they even talking about going to other teams and the NBA when the current season isn't even over? No wonder the guys seem like they're not on the same page most of the time.

UK WAS dangling in the wind with ccc, as the inmates ran the asylum
Hopefully, Pope won't let the players hold him hostage.
Tell them if they wait till the very last second to give him a decision, that he will be looking for a replacement

Makes you wonder how a solid player can go thru high school and part of college and no one makes an attempt to correct your shot. It might not matter to players without a hope of playing for pay, but learning to shoot with proper form at an early stage in life should be a given imo

Could be a win, win situation, love to have him back, but would help Pope's reputation by putting him in the pros
Pope can put him in the pro's after next year and can also prove he can work on whatever feedback he gets from the NBA in order to make that happen. improving his jumper will certainly be on the list as well as trying not to throw the ball through the backboard when finishing at the rim on occasion. We will need a returnee like Oweh next year.

Not disagreeing per se but if he doesn’t improve his shot and learn to quit ducking his head and plowing through the lane to throw up a prayer we’re in trouble.

Makes sense for him to get evaluated but I feel very confident our NIL will keep him in Lexington when all is said and done.

Oweh vs Alabama = 4 pts
Oweh vs Auburn = 4 pts

We need better production from him against top competition.
Sure. But we still want him back all day and twice on game days.

He got 21 against Alabama the first time we played them.
He had 24 against Ole Miss.
15 against Duke.
17 against UofL.
16 against Florida.

Double digits for every game except for those two.

I mean that’s essentially what Jaxson Robinson did this past offseason

I think owehs form is ok. What seems to be the problem is he can't catch and shoot quickly. He rushes and his arms go all over the place. Get a moment to spot up, it's fine

That’s when we had a full complement of our roster and he didn’t have to shoulder the load. Without Butler and Robinson, his production has fallen off.
