Nine preseason All SEC selections by Steele.
I suspect that is a record for Kentucky Football.
With 4 teams selected at 22 per team . . . heck, call it 25 with specialists that is . . . . that’s 100 for the 16 SEC teams. Hence, the conference average should be about 6.5 ALL SEC for each team!!!

I tried to find his complete list on line but I guess you have to buy his magazine.
Was just curious, I don't buy any of the pre season mags, they are pricing themselves out of business. I do remember in days before internet and message boards heading to the bookstore to pickup Forrest Davis recruiting magazine. Did it for several years. But it was less than 5 bucks and worth every penny.
Waste of money, but it's just a personal summer tradition to buy a couple preseason mags to look at out by the pool or on the porch. Back in the olden days a Lindys or Athlon was the only way to learn about what the sport might look like in the fall.
I feel like Eli Cox should be higher than 3rd team. I haven’t really kept up with the other teams roster situations so much and I know the talent level of the big boys in the conference is usually insane but that ranking is just a bit too low imo. He’s not the flashiest but he’s tough, consistent and reliable. Overall good representation for the Cats for a preseason list.
So the math tells us we are about 50% better than avg. Hopefully that gets us to at least 8 wins.
I find his magazine helpful for betting. I don't listen to anything he speculates about, but he has an exceptionally detailed synopsis of returning talent and important additions for each team.
Saw they are like 15 dollars each now. Last time I bought one it was like 7.99.
I absolutely excited to see them play this year. Deone Walker top 15 draft pick IMO. Guy is a monster. Also, Barion Brown Has elite speed.
From hs up to the present, Eli Cox has always been underrated. Especially by Nick Roush, but also by most of the KY media. I have disclosed this exchange before. After Eli verbally committed to our 2019 class, Roush posted an evaluation of our recruiting class at the time and completely omitted any mention whatsoever of Eli. When I pointed out the omission to Roush, he told me that Eli's player rating was so low that there was no chance Eli would ever contribute at UK.
Eli simply didn't matter to Roush. This is emblematic of Roush's poor comprehensive of college football, and of the lack of insight in KSR's football coverage. Now, Eli is one of the better interior offensive linemen in the SEC, despite the apparent disadvantage of being coached by Zach Yenser.
I don't know if 3rd team all SEC is right for Eli, but I expect him to play well, provide leadership, and show the benefit of his learning curve. With Eli's experience, at 6'4" 311#, he should be a big plus for us in the fall.
He's predicted ul beating UK 4 years in a row. LOL.
He thinks UL's OL and WR's are really good. Does not like the RB's. He thinks the UL DL and DB's are really good. Said the LB's aren't really bad so their D will be a huge challenge for us. And if their WR's are as good as he says they could pass us silly.
"Terrible" is an unfair exaggeration. But they certainly appeared to regress, and I blame that on Zach Yenser. I was never a fan of the Yenser hire, and I believe it hurt our football program in terms of recruiting and player development.
Burton may be the most important example, because he still has underdeveloped talent and much more upside. When Yenser moved him to C, that stalled his development although there have been other learning issues too. Coach Wolf will get a lot of this nonsense straightened out pretty quickly. We will have a couple of new starters on our OL, and Wolf is a stickler, so the look should be different this year.
With Wolf the OL has to play tougher and meaner or they will eventually be replaced when the depth quality is built. He pushes hard and will come much closer to getting all he can out of what he has got right now. May take more than one year to get us back on solid footing with that group, just hope that progress is made this season.
Strey and Kattus are two I think are fine if we can get a couple more with very high ceilings to go with them.
That's kinda what he's said the last 4 years. LOL. He is one of those guys that thinks a better record means you are a better team. He doesn't seem to realize playing a tougher schedule outside of the "SOS" ranking has it's benefits and negatives.
He doesn't understand having 9 games on your schedule that you could lose is harder than having 5 games on your schedule that you could lose.... He just looks at some generic SOS. Same reason Miami has sucked most of the time since leaving the big least... they didn't just have 3 games per year to get up for.
Will Dylan Ray be the LOG? He was the closest thing to a Stenberg last season IMO. Completed plays to the end, showed physicality and has shown his versatility to play different positions.

Wolf likes to play his top 5 when there is a clear talent dropoff after his top 5. That was the situation at UK in 2021. With more quality depth onhand, his confidence would grow in some of the backups, and we might see him use more players. I don't think we can rule that possibility in or out until the quality depth is developed.
Adam Luckett is the real workhorse of the KSR Football coverage. He is very, very good.

And Card fans generally fail to note that Kentucky has annually, now, for 7 seasons opened up a measurable difference in recruit quality.
We are annually ranked about 25th, and they about 40th in recruiting.
But they go on a mid-season tear, beating Boston College, Syracuse and WF, and suddenly their 5.5 Three Star players are going to smash our 5.8 Four Star players.
It really just doesn’t work that way. Yes, they should still win an occassional upset, maybe even 20-25 percent of games, but their hubris in predicting the unlikely, after 6 years, has begun to look like a mental illness.
Sure, the Cards have had winning streaks over UK, but those streaks weren’t based on simply the red team is supposed to win . . . but instead were caused by having highly ranked recruits at QB, TB, and a few other positions.
And their talent differential in recruiting, while statistically real when they were beating UK, was not as big as is UK’s talent differential, now.
UK-UL is one of the least significant games on our football schedule. All of our SEC games are far more important.
It means more for conference bragging rights than it does for state bragging rights anymore. Especially after that bad first 2 weeks last year.... that last weekend really helped put the acc back in it's place.
Absolutely.
But after having attended several games near the Purina Silos in Jefferson County, and having experienced their fans, no win gives me greater satisfaction.
And if we lose, it’s embarrassing.
