Did this comparison post last offseason and seemed like enough people found it interesting; I'm looking at the players' production to find recent positional comparisons to gauge improvement/trends. Have to take into account the difference in level of comp but the metrics I look at are a mix of standard stats and advanced ratings/PER on a per 40-min base.

(keep in mind this is a comparison on what they've already shown, not what they will be next year)

Last Year's Incoming Production Comps:
  • Amari Williams --> Bam Adebayo
  • Jaxson Robinson --> Kevin Knox
  • Otega Oweh --> Aaron Harrison (So.)
  • Andrew Carr --> Patrick Patterson (Jr.)
  • Lamont Butler --> Ashton Hagans (Jr.)
  • Koby Brea --> Doron Lamb (So.) (offensively, defensively was much different)
  • Brandon Garrison --> Willie Cauley-Stein (Fr.)
  • Kerr Kriisa --> Davion Mintz (Sr.)
  • Ansley Almonor --> Nate Sestina
This Year's Incoming/Returning Production Comps:
  • Otega Oweh --> Tyrese Maxey
    • Tough one to find b/c most recent high scoring players we've had did so one a high 3pt volume. Oweh's numbers last year were a step better than Maxeys.
  • Jayden Quaintance --> Willie Cauley-Stein (Jr)
    • Defensive impact is the big flashing green flag here, JQ has a chance to be SPECIAL on defense
  • Jaland Lowe --> TyTy Washington
    • I wish we got to see a full year of Washington actually running the point
  • Mohamed Dioubate --> Alex Poythress (Fr)
    • Dioubate's efficiency metrics are off the charts, just needs to stay on the floor. Poythress was actually super efficient as a freshman.
  • Denzel Aberdeen --> Andrew Harrison (Fr)
    • Similar comp in that they both were fairly efficient with good defensive ratings, but oddly low PERs
  • Andrija Jelavic --> Tre Mitchell
    • Really tough to find one for Jelavic's international stats. Mitchell was the best fit with his outside shooting.
  • Kam Williams --> Darius Miller (Fr)
    • A more accurate comp for this one might be if you took Miller's SOPH 3pt shooting numbers w/ everything else freshman wise.
  • Brandon Garrison --> Daimion Collins (Fr)
    • Surprised me at how good both Garrison and Collins' per-40 numbers were
  • Collin Chandler --> Immanuel Quickley (Fr)
    • Flashing green flag here, numbers are almost identical. Chandler may be in for a big leap.
  • Trent Noah --> Adou Thiero (Fr)
    • Another comp where the numbers were VERY close despite different play styles
