Oweh update

This is what I expected anyways.

Still has opportunities to workout for teams, etc.

Hope it's still the plan to come back- he'll make more money and have a chance to move further up the draft boards.
I hope so as well he is this teams “jodie Meeks” or the 2016 dakari Johnson missing piece they need to be real contenders

Maybe, but the one benefit we have that those teams didn't is the transfer portal. I would bet solid money that Pope finds a good player who removes themselves from the draft if it turns out that Oweh doesn't.

I still think Oweh comes back, but still.

Really a hard decision..... I mean I understand but the upside of coming back to UK is a lot more then fighting in the gleague for alot less money then he would make at UK. Being a rockstar and flying all over and signing autographs for fans vs bus trips to gleague games where hardly anyone attends or would even know who he is. Smh. Just crazy tenn has a player suing for another year of college and we have one who might want to move on. His decision just hope he really thinks about it.

The difference between a fringe NBA player and a player who has no shot ever at playing in the NBA.

Not sure how anyone can compare Oweh to Meeks (and Dakari??). The guy is a good (not great) defender, really good slasher at times, but has a lot of holes in his game that need improvement and doesn’t need to be the key focal point of our offense. I expect him to return, and if he doesn’t he’ll be playing in the G League. That’s perfectly fine if it’s what he wants to do.

Oweh is gonna be the SEC POY favorite and a first team all American most likely. This is a bad take

I dunno man….the “holes” criticism is pretty fair. He has a horrific hitch in his jump shot AND for a guard he has a rather subpar handle. There is a reason we never let him run much point last year with all the injures and that was because his handle wasn’t good enough to pull it off.

He will probably be on some pre-season watch lists, but he has holes in his game. There’s a reason why he’s looked at as a borderline second round pick, at best, in the Draft. He’s a good player but he’s not elite at anything, has poor handles and a sub-par shot for an NBA guard, and he misses way too many shots at the rim (most of our team did last year for some reason). Doesn’t mean he can’t improve on those things, but what he showed last year doesn’t make him the SEC POY favorite or a first team AA.

All of it boils down on the accuracy of nil reports. I think it’s a lot less than reported and that makes things problematic if oo has a 2-3 year guarantee. 3.5 mil has been the reported number to return. It’s probably 1 mil lol

You take Oweh, I'll take the field. I'll give you 10-1 odds. Name the amount.

I think Oweh is a really good and important piece to next years team. If he isn't on the team, we won't be as good as we would with him. I'm not crapping on him at all, but there's absolutely no way I see him as the SEC POY. He'd do well to be on the first team. He greatly benefited by JR being out and Butler being one-armed down the stretch. His numbers wouldn't have been what they were absent of those circumstances.

I trust that the staff has a good idea on Oweh’s plan and has a back up option if he does stay in the draft. I think he’d do well to come back, but I get he wants to get to the league right now.

If he returns, I believe he will be one of only two players back from the Second Team All-SEC (no First teamers will be back). That makes him one of the top two returning players in the league (along with Hubbard at MSU).

And you don’t think he will at the very least be a preseason 1st team All-SEC and at least in the SEC POY conversation?

SMH

Regardless of what he has said, it seemed that he has been looking for any reason to stay in. If they are telling him late second round, he better run or be prepared to be picked up and bounced around all over the place after the draft.

Ours player is looking to move on to the NBA....the Vol could be moving on to Croatia.

Everyone is so obsessed about money. Dude's brother is in the NFL. His family is already set. He wants to join his brother by being a professional. He wants to get his career going. I don't know why this is so hard for fans to understand. Oweh is not in the same financial situation as most others, so it's not the be all end all for him. That's why he's doing everything to stay in the draft. He may come back, but it's not cause of the money.

People keep saying that he can come back and improve his draft stock. What they are failing to mention is that he can come back and worsen it too.
He is already what, 22 years old. That is typically a negative from an NBA teams perspective and next year he will be one year older. He could also get lost on this team full of talent and not get as many opportunities to shine. Last year he benefitted from a huge number of injuries that forced us to look to him more often than we would have needed had we been completely healthy. Finally, there is also the chance of injury. If he injured himself, he may not get another chance to get in front of NBA teams, even if he heals up.

No, I absolutely think we will be in those conversations, for whatever that is worth. What I said, and what I believe, is there's basically no way I can see him ACTUALLY being the SEC POY. That's it. If he is, holy crap we're going to be really, REALLY good.

I agree, there's absolutely no guarantee of that. Honestly, the G League or a two way deal is a much better way to better yourself for the NBA. He's likely not getting drafted, so his decision is pretty simple. Does he want to pass up whatever he is set to make at UK for AT MOST $500K (2 way deal money) and grind it out? Which, btw, he will probably be in that exact same situation the next year. All while being a bit more wealthy, thanks to his senior year at UK.

.Just crazy tenn has a player suing for another year of college and we have one who might want to move on.

The Tennessee player has zero chance to play in the NBA. The college limelight is the best shot he has.

The Kentucky player is a fringe second rounder with the potential to have an NBA career.

These scenarios are not the same.

If he were that hell bent on starting his pro career right now (I don't believe that he is), why even retain his college eligibility?

From the outside, he does not appear to have improved his situation / draft stock by going to the Combine.

Who knows what individual teams might be telling him, but not much seems to have changed since last month.

Sure will make it hard on Pope to get a replacement if he waits to the very end and leaves.
I kind of look at that differently. Not sure we need a replacement, think we already have bodies here that can fill it just opens up more space for them. So we're okay if he goes talent wise but man you can't replace that kind of Dog mindselt he brings.

Oweh has an agent. Pre NIL I think agents pushed borderline NBA players to the league so they (agent) would get their cut.

Now these borderline players like Oweh will probably make more by returning to school. And of course the agents

make more $$. Will Oweh’s agent push him back to school and to big NIL bucks? Like Fland? 🤔

He is going to wait till last minute to see who all pulls out of the draft, see if he can move up to late first round or something like that. Smart move but that is still about 28 to 30 guys to pull out. Could it happen, most assuredly, do I expect it, nope.

It makes for a long 6 days from here on out for fans for sure.

Can’t see it. Kid is a warrior.

Pilgrim said he's most likely staying in until the end (5/28) just to see if there's a chance that a large group of players opt out of the draft and it by default pushes him up to a late first round pick. And if that happens and we lose him, there's a huge group of good players that become available and we replace him with one of those players.
