Apologies if this has been discussed here before, but I noticed one of these in Lexington today. I LOL’d. The state of Kentucky would never dream of doing something like this. Just shows the massive influence of BBN that somebody got this done.
I helped North Carolina get UK plates about 15 years ago. Was rewarded with a really low # (you can see in my profile pic).Apologies if this has been discussed here before, but I noticed one of these in Lexington today. I LOL’d. Not that surprising, the states that do this keep all the Revenue for their program of choice. Not the only state that has them. My cousin lived in Virginia before moving back home after a divorce and they had UK plates. I think it's something to do with alumni associations requesting them and getting signatures on a "petition"

It's something like that. I lived in Virginia about a decade. If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have to be alumni, I don't think. I think you have to have a certain amount of people on a type of waiting list (possibly pre-pay) before they print of run of team plates. I don't think they had hit that when I left in 2016. But, yes, it's something along those lines. Not the only state that has them. My cousin lived in Virginia before moving back home after a divorce and they had UK plates. 0107 and 0108 here, those were good times. I think we got to 300 as we were winning #8.Thanks for your efforts......... and here I was being proud that I had number 0175!
If I recall, didn't the process in NC involve securing 300 prepaid orders before they would produce them?
Tennessee has plates for a lot of schools, not only UK. Smart move by them because it’s easy money.
