Apologies if this has been discussed here before, but I noticed one of these in Lexington today. I LOL’d. The state of Kentucky would never dream of doing something like this. Just shows the massive influence of BBN that somebody got this done.

I helped North Carolina get UK plates about 15 years ago. Was rewarded with a really low # (you can see in my profile pic).

Florida has had all the major D1 schools available since at least 2000....along with virtually every other topic u can think of....Autism, Fish, Breast Cancer, Etc....they have to have at least 150 to choose from

Not the only state that has them. My cousin lived in Virginia before moving back home after a divorce and they had UK plates. I think it's something to do with alumni associations requesting them and getting signatures on a "petition"
Not that surprising, the states that do this keep all the Revenue for their program of choice.
Anything to make a buck.

Thanks for your efforts......... and here I was being proud that I had number 0175!

If I recall, didn't the process in NC involve securing 300 prepaid orders before they would produce them?

I love my UK plate here in the great state of Kentucky. I love Tennessee's though because they actually have the Wildcat.

It's something like that. I lived in Virginia about a decade. If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have to be alumni, I don't think. I think you have to have a certain amount of people on a type of waiting list (possibly pre-pay) before they print of run of team plates. I don't think they had hit that when I left in 2016. But, yes, it's something along those lines.

0107 and 0108 here, those were good times. I think we got to 300 as we were winning #8.

Not sure why they don’t have them in Texas… looks like they have umich, Alabama, Georgia Oklahoma auburn Nebraska etc but no UK. I guess they have to be sponsored

I'm sorry if I phrased that wrong. I didn't mean you had to be an alum just that the alumni association requested that a UK plate was made available and got a petition signed. Anyone can purchase them regardless of if you were an alum. Hope that doesn't make it more misunderstood !! 🤣

Yes, NC required 300 pre-paid orders.
My involvement was, once the Triangle and Charlotte UKAA chapters had about 350-400 pledged to buy a plate (expecting some wouldn't follow-thru) I was one of 5 who called those 400 (so about 80 each of us) people and got them to mail in their check and completed application form.

I think it shows a lot of Kentuckians have moved to Tennessee and all governments want money. That’s just me.
